With the official start to summer earlier this week, Strathmore RCMP are urging driv-ers to take caution while traveling.
Construction zones in and around town are beginning to pop up, and motorists need to be aware.
In October of 2005, provincial legislation was passed stating speeding fines will double in construction zones when workers are present. Speeding fines will double no matter what if a per-son is caught speed-ing through a con-struction zone.
“Even at five kilo-meters over, you’re going to look at ap-proximately a $132 ticket, and maybe even some demerits, so it adds up pretty quick,” said Const. Jackson with Strath-more RCMP. “When there is construction, there could be debris on the road, or pot-holes, which can also
be a hazard to motor-ists and construction crews.
“Obey the speed limits and just really slow down and take your time. Use a lot of common sense. A lot of people are moving around out of vehicles and that’s where the real hazard is.”
Posting speed re-duction signs through construction zones is at the discretion of the construction con-tractor and project en-gineer. Signs often are placed several kilome-tres in front of the ac-tual construction zone to allow larger vehi-cles more time to slow down. The location of signs also depends on the type of construc-tion activity.
Not all double-the-fine areas will have signs. Motorists will need to be observant and watch if workers are present. Whenever possible, road signs will be used to show when speed fines double, as well as the start of the double-the-fine area.

One injured in car crash A motor vehicle accident at Lakeside Blvd and East Ridge Rd left one man injured on June 21. “Thankfully it wasn’t high speeds,” said Const. Jackson with the Strathmore RCMP. “It’s hard to tell at this point what happened.” The driver of the truck is said to have swerved to try to avoid the car. “I knew it was going to happen at this corner sooner or later,” said an onlooker. Paramedics and the Fire Department worked to get the car driver out of the vehicle safely. The driver and two passengers in the truck were unharmed, while the driver of the car had unknown injuries and was taken to the hospital to be assessed.

Belated birthday celebrations took place for the Strathmore detachment of the Foothills Advocacy In Motion Soci-ety (AIM). AIM has been in Okotoks and High River for close to 30 years and only recently came to Strathmore in February 2009.
They celebrated their one-year anni-versary and hosted an open house so members of the community could come down and find out more about them. The company provides services and support to adults with developmental disabilities and has 12 clients in Strath-more and 80 overall.
The idea behind the company is to be a support system and help the clients achieve success no matter what their disability may be. For each client there will be different levels of success and opportunities available.
“We have clients who live on their own, or are married, and some need day-to-day help. The levels of support differ on each client’s need,” said Vince Kimura, the executive director of the program.
The Strathmore location has never been busier and Kimura credits much of the success to the relationships within the community.
“Craig has done a great job establish-ing a partnership with the local busi-nesses and individuals.”
Craig McKenzie is the program man-ager for Strathmore.
“We have a motto here, it’s right peo-ple, right support, right placement,” said McKenzie.
If all of those are filled, there will be a successful match, and sometimes they just need a little tweaking. AIM made a community connection with No Frills, which has exceeded their expectations. There are two clients currently working at the store.
“They started with a support worker with them and once they became more confident and more independent we moved to the end of the aisle, then to the front of the store and now we’re out-side of the store,” said McKenzie.
“I think they have really demonstrated a sense of belonging and developed a sense of camaraderie. Quite often adults with disabilities experience isolation af-ter school. Their school mates go on to college etcetera and sometimes they are still sitting there at 20 or 25 wondering, when is it my turn. Unfortunately some of them aren’t going to get to experience some of the milestones that the people around them get to,” said Kimura. The AIM society helps those individuals complete their own set of milestones.

Dividends: A good source of incomeHow would you like to add both income and
growth potential to your investment portfolio? Consider dividend-paying stocks.
Dividends are the portion of profits that companies pay out to shareholders. Typically larger, well-established companies pay dividends - usually quarterly, semi-annually or annually.
While stocks are inherently more risky than conservative, interest-generating investments, sticking to dividend-paying shares of quality blue chip companies can help you manage that risk. Plus, when you invest in dividend-paying stocks, you have the option to reinvest your dividend income, potentially boosting your portfolio’s performance over time.
There are also tax breaks for dividend income derived from Canadian corporations. The dividend tax credit reduces the income tax you pay. And if shares appreciate in value, you’re eligible for reduced taxed on capital gains when you eventually sell your share. For more information, please consult your tax advisor.
Dividend-paying stocks can be less volatile than other types of shares because investors tend to hang on to them during market downturns. In addition, dividends have the potential to increase over time, although they can be increased, decreased or eliminated at any point without notice.

Drumbeats filled the air as bright splashes of colour flashed before specta-tors at the third annual Blackfoot Cross-ing Chicken Dance Championships. The historical park opened in 2007 and as a new facility, the park wanted to have a signature event every year.
“In 2008 our first one landed on Na-tional Aboriginal Day, and so we put it on that day to celebrate,” said Shane Breaker, vice president of marketing and public relations for Blackfoot cross-ing. In the past two years, the event has lasted for two days. This year organiz-ers decided to do it all in one day. Pow-wows are common in North America, but Blackfoot Crossing is the only place which focuses on the chicken dance.
The dance is part of the BlackFoot cul-ture. It’s a male dance, and is a reflec-tion from the actual prairie chicken. The pow-wow is open to all tribes who wish to compete, and the winners are based on the best dancers.
“The contestants themselves find it very unique because it’s an event all on its own and you can’t find it anywhere else. It’s a championship to recognize the best dancers out there in this cate-gory. Even though it’s held on Blackfoot territory, there have been Cree winners,
it’s to find the best in the field,” said Breaker.
There are different age categories for the dancers with some young children, as young as seven-years-old and under, all the way to elders.
“A lot of people at different ages, they kind of get into the chicken dance cate-gory. Same with any other category, they might start out young, or get into when they get older,” said Breaker.
Every outfit in each category had a similar general look, but every one of them is individualized and special to each dancer. They tried to make their outfits as spectacular as possible. They may take the designs from family de-signs that have been passed on to them. Pow-wow dancing is considered a cel-ebration, and a type of cleansing. Win-ners of each division won a cash prize, and the adult cash prize was for $2,500.
The results were:Junior category 1. Sage Crazy Bull. Kainai Nation, Alberta 2. Rich-ard Guardipee. Browning, Montana 3. Sheadon Turning Robe. Siksika Nation, Alberta. 4. Chance White. Wetaskwin, Al-

This week in council there were a few hot-button issues brought forth. The big-gest was the RV Bylaw, which had mem-bers of the community packing into the council chambers. The Land Use Bylaw sparked some debate between council, but no one from the community spoke to council.
rV parkingNumerous residents attended the coun-
cil meeting to debate whether parking an RV in their front yard should be allowed. One of the biggest complaints brought forth was that since the bylaw has been in effect since 1998, why was it not strongly enforced in previous years. Shannon Bic-cum who spoke on behalf of her commu-nity said, “Certain bylaws are being taken care of while others aren’t.”
Mayor Lattery replied stating that the town plans to make sure all bylaws will be enforced. After a bit of a heated dis-cussion, there was a two-part motion put forth by Councillor Bob Sobol. One part is amending it from 24 hours to 72 hours in which an RV may be parked at a residence. The second part is for there to be a sum-mer period, from May long weekend to La-bour Day long weekend, during which RV owners can park on their property 24/7.
There will be a public hearing about the possible amendments at the July 14 meet-ing, where residents may speak their opin-ions on the matter. There will also be an open house on July 5 at the Civic Centre from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The open house
on the off-leash area for dogs will be at the same time.
ByLaw #10-07 Land uSe ByLawThe final public hearing regarding the
Land Use Bylaw went before council on June 16. The current bylaw was still suit-able for the new developments with only one item needing amendment due to a typo.
Susan Sanderson spoke on behalf of AECOM and their findings regarding the current bylaw and recommended amend-ments. The only other person to speak on behalf of the public was Bruce Klaiber, a developer who was in favour of smaller lot sizes.
“We’re only hearing from developers, which is great, but we needed to hear from the residents,” said Deputy Mayor Brad Walls.
The bylaw went through its second and third readings. Councillors Earl Best and Mike Lloyd were against the amendment motions and opposed the second reading.
Best requested a recorded vote for the third and final reading. Councillors Lois Wegener, Earl Best and Mike Lloyd op-posed the third reading. On new homes the minimum lot size is 40ft, but a lot may be 50ft plus if that is what a builder wants.
Street improVement The 2010 street improvement project
tender was awarded to Bow Mark Paving for the amount of $375,798.64. The main focus of the project is resurfacing Third Avenue and spot repairs needed to the sanitary sewer lines. Bow Mark said they
plan to complete repairs in time for Heri-tage Days but with the weather, it might not be feasible. They are to begin work im-mediately.
name Change A request was made to change the name
of the East Boundary Road with the name of a citizen worthy of the honor. There was little discussion regarding the proposed change.
“I never heard of a street being named after someone still alive,” said Councillor John Rempel.
It was a unanimous decision by council to change the name of the East Boundary Road to George Freeman Trail. The Free-man family has been in Strathmore for close to a century, and George has been an active member of the community. He did not expect to hear the road was being renamed in recognition of his contribution to the community.
“I’m quite happy with it,” said Freeman.
reSidentiaL irrigation Committee The Town is looking for 10 people to be
part of a residential irrigation committee. The purpose of the committee is to decide whether reinstating the system is feasible in the future. The committee must have one council member sitting on it. Mayor Lattery stated he would like to sit on the committee. The committee should be 10 members but a quorum would be six. The committee would have to meet a minimum of once a month, and is to remain in ef-fect until September 30 2010, when they will present the results of their research to council.

Cluny sewage A request for decision was put forth in
front of Wheatland county council about sewer funding costs in Cluny.
It has cost the county $138,000 in re-pairs to the sewer, lagoon and irrigation from 1999 to 2009. Up to this point Cluny residents have not paid a monthly sew-age fee to be put into reserve for repairs, while surrounding communities have been. The request is for Cluny to begin paying a fee as of January 1, 2011. The decision has been tabled until June 29, providing council a chance to determine what the fee should be.
gleiChen water tower
High winds have caused the Gleichen water tower to crack, leaving residents with concerns in regards to repairs. The
tower is a historical site and figuring out how to refurbish it has been an issue in the community. The Wheatland county council was presented with the issue and on June 15 received confirmation of funding.
The Alberta Historical Foundation, AHRF, will provide $80,980; Wheatland County, $200,000; and both Communi-ty Futures Wild Rose and the Gleichen Water Tower Committee will contribute $3,500 each.

DOG OFF LEASH AREA
The Town of Strathmore is investigating the installation of a Dog Off Leash Area for use by residents and their dogs. The goal of the off-leash area is to enable dog owners to have an area for their sociable dogs to be allowed off-leash to interact with other dogs, as well as to be in a controlled area. The current concept is a 2 acre area to provide dog owners with a small area for this social activity to occur.
The purpose of this Open House is to offer residents the opportunity to provide input into the design and location of the Off Leash Area. Residents are encouraged to attend and bring creative ideas for the Off Leash Area.
LAND USE BYLAW – RV PARKING The Town is looking for feedback from the public on possible amendments to the Land Use Bylaw, Section 61, Clause (4), Regulations for Parking Recreational, Commercial and Motor Vehicles. Staff will be providing a number of options, and will be seeking public opinion on the proposed amendments prior to bringing the Bylaw forward to Council for approval/refusal.

As a part of their yearlong Global Citizenship project, Grade 3 students at Sacred Heart Academy, SHA, designed collection cans for the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. Students brought in coffee cans, ice cream pails and a vari-ety of other containers, which they could turn into a collection can.
The kids then decorated the cans with pom-poms, feathers, handprints and messages.
“It was super fun,” said Alex Nwoye, one of the students who designed a can.
“We’ve been looking for ways that children could help children around the world, and something as little as making a collection can can help people out,”
said teacher Jennifer Yersh. A big part of the project was showing the kids that giving money and donating their things wasn’t the only way to help, but that giv-ing a little of their time could be a big help as well.
Ashlee Guise from the Kids Cancer Care Foundation came to SHA on June 18, to pick up the cans and to talk to the kids about the foundation.
“This was pretty unique, to have a craft project that went all year round was pret-ty fantastic. We will use them for all of our fundraising events, they will be well used throughout the year,” said Guise. Most of the students were asking about other ways they can help, and many said they are planning to ask for money for their birthdays so they can donate it to the foundation.
Art with a cause
The Gleichen water tower has suffered damage this year, partly caused by the u n s e a s o n a b l y high winds. A crack appeared between the L and E, and had makeshift repairs done. Thanks to approved fund-ing the tower will be repaired to it’s former glory.

Is there anything I can do to help prepare my puppy for its first grooming session?
Absolutely! The more hands on with your puppy the better. An 8-12 week old puppy is a wiggle worm but be patient and gentle and be sure to reward even momentary acceptance or tolerance. Do not try to achieve too much at one time but make a conscientious effort to handle its face, ears, chest, abdomen, and around its paws. Apply gentle pressure to the pup’s paws while you address it kindly. This is a good way to teach the pup that when you handle its paws you mean it no harm and this will help immensely when it comes time for a nail trim. When you book your pup for its first professional groom be sure to tell your groomer so they can book a little extra time to ensure the first groom is a positive one.

Lemon Custard Trifle with Summer Berries
6 egg yolks 1 cup sugar4 lemons, zested and juiced ½ cup cold butter, cut into chunks2 cups sweetened whipped cream 1 pound cake, sliced1 pint each of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries
Lemon CustardBring a pot of water to a simmer over medium heat. Combine egg yolks, sugar, lemon juice and zest in a metal or glass heat resistant bowl and whisk until smooth. Set bowl over the simmering water, without letting the bottom touch and continue to whisk vigorously for about 10 minutes or until custard has doubled in volume and it is very thick. Don’t let it boil. Remove the bowl from heat and whisk in butter a couple chunks at a time until melted. Refrigerate until the custard is cold and firm.
Slice strawberries and then mix all berries together in large bowl, (set aside). Fold gently, the whipped cream into the chilled lemon custard. Cover the bottom of a trifle bowl with some of the pound cake, spoon a layer of the custard and then a layer of berries. Repeat the layers until the ingredients are all used up, finishing with berries. Garnish with fresh mint.

Kevin SorenSon, M.P., Crowfoot Parliamentary Report
This summer, year two of Can-ada’s Economic Action Plan will be implemented in communities across Canada and in our own rid-ing. Our Conservative government launched the two-year plan in Bud-get 2009 that has been saving and creating jobs in Canada during the global economic recession (300,000 jobs created so far). The stimulus spending program has been carried out region by region, sector by sec-tor and was the result of the largest-ever pre-budget consultation in our country’s history.
In our riding, we have already seen remarkable developments. The restoration of the Bailey The-atre and major investments in the Canada Badlands may be the most high-profile. We have received as-sistance from the Economic Action Plan funding envelopes including: the Building Canada Fund (Commu-nities Component); the Infrastruc-ture Stimulus Fund; Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RinC); Marquee Tourism Events; Cultural Spaces; the Community Adjustment Fund throughout our constituency. I should add to this list the return of the gas taxes revenues to the com-munities where they were raised. Our Conservative government com-menced that initiative shortly after forming government.
Much of the federal stimulus spending has been used by com-munities for infrastructure proj-ects, including maintenance and upgrades to highways and bridges. Our federal government is working closely with our Alberta provincial government which is responsible for maintaining our local highways and roads.
As your Member of Parliament, I log tens of thousands of kilometers a year travelling to and from the
four corners of our riding. Like you, I have been ensnarled in some of the traffic line-ups due to construc-tion crews that have become more common place since the snow melt-ed. Residents frequenting Highway 9 and 21 are the latest lucky recipi-ents of pavement repair. Other proj-ects include Highways 12, 13, 590, 836, and 24-22X.
I must confess that I appreciate the results of highway re-surfacing and there are a number of truckers out there who would agree with me. Whether you’re using the highways to go to work, school, or visit fam-ily and friends it helps, while you’re in-line waiting for the flag to go ahead, to remember that one of the first great tasks Canadians asked of the Government of Canada was to build a railroad to link our country together and facilitate trade and the timely movement of people, goods and services over fantastic geo-graphic distances to our border and ports for export.
Today, our roads and highways remain as important as ever. In our region of our vast nation, we rely on long stretches of highways and roads that link us to our loved-ones and our livelihoods.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this or previ-ous columns you may write me at 4945-50th Street, Camrose, Alberta, T4V 1P9, call 780-608-4600, toll-free 1-800-665-4358, fax 780-608-4603 or e-mail [email protected] Pardon froM ParliaMent
Member of Parliament Kevin So-renson is pleased with last-minute fast-tracking through the Commons by unanimous consent from all par-ties, measures that ban serious of-fenders from applying for a Pardon for 10 years, up from the current five.
Sorenson says, “Technically, the compromise on Bill C-23, legisla-tion our Conservative government already tabled does not bar of-
fenders convicted of manslaughter -- including Karla Homolka -- from applying for Pardons, but it allows the National Parole Board to reject applications that would bring ‘the administration of justice into disre-pute’. Therefore, it will be impos-sible for Ms. Homolka to be Par-doned this summer.”
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews assures Canadians that he will re-vive in the fall proposals regarding pardons in the original Bill C-23 that the Conservative government tabled a few weeks ago. These de-tails were set aside in exchange for speedy passage of the measures to block next month’s anticipated ap-plication by Homolka for a formal Pardon.
“Many of my constituents spoke up against the possibility of ‘for-giving’ the brutal torture and sex-slaying of two young women. Ho-molka received a 12-year prison sentence - the infamous, “deal with the devil” - from an Ontario Court in exchange for evidence that led to the conviction of her then husband and co-perpetrator, Paul Bernardo. Canadians were outraged and have not forgotten the lenient treatment she negotiated. Under current law, she could apply for a Pardon July 4 this year,” Sorenson explains.
“Prime Minister Harper spoke firmly and with resolve when he first alerted Canadians that our gov-ernment would commence working on fixing Canada’s Pardon system. Canadians were outraged that sex offender Graham James, a former hockey coach, had been Pardoned and Canadians wanted to stop the possibility of a Pardon for Homol-ka. Last night all Members of Parlia-ment agreed and took action before the House of Commons rose for the summer recess. In the next two weeks, the Senate is expected to support the decision of the House - No Pardon for Homolka from Par-liament,” said Sorenson.

“An Occasion To Remember” was held this past Saturday by expres-sions, The Dance Gallery at the Jubi-lee Auditorium. The 27th annual end of the year concert was an all day event for the dancers, instructors and par-ent volunteers. The day started with a full technical rehearsal followed by hair and makeup and then the evening performance. The Jubilee was packed with what seemed like all of Strath-more and surrounding areas. The dancers put on a spectacular show. With all the hard work from all involved the show went on without a hitch and was surely be an event that will be re-membered for all that were involved. Strathmore hosted its first annual Palio at the Agricultur-al grounds on June 19. A Palio is a fun event, with the main idea behind it being to bring families together from all par-ishes in the Roman Catholic Diocese, which includes Cal-gary and southern Alberta.
“It’s based on the Palio di Siena in Italy. It’s not the rid-ers that win, but the horses for their district and then they’ll take the banner and host it in their district for the year,” said Michael Subasic, a member of the Palio Executive Com-mittee. The Strathmore event was similar to the ones hosted in Italy, except they will only hold one a year instead of two. The winner of the ban-ner this year was Our Lady of
Perpetual Help out of Calgary. The event was open to fami-lies of any faith in order to promote families in general.
“Our thought was to have a fun race and do it for parishes and it would give us a chance to get together,” said Subasic.
“Our other objective was as a fundraiser, and the funds go to the Roman Catholic Church for the building of new par-ishes and the upkeep of exist-ing parishes.”
Every parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese had a horse running in the event. There was face painting, midway-type games, bouncy houses, clowns and music. There were 24 horses entered into the race, through only eight would run at a time. There were a total of 72 races. Sub-asic says they plan to host the Palio again next June.
Palio di Siena comes to Strathmore
The first annual Palio of Calgary was at the Agricultural grounds on June 19. The event was in part fundraiser, and in part just a way to join fami-lies together for a day of fun. There were horse races, with the winning horse’s team taking home the banner. Photo courtesy of Dennis McNeill

Cheer fever hit Jumphouse Gymnastics when six coaches from the Edmonton Eskimo cheer team vis-ited to teach some moves.
The cheer camp was June 19-20, with the partici-pants learning how to do a pyramid and stunts.
“At the end of the day, right before their parents came to pick them up, they did a demonstration of a new dance routine pyramid they had never done be-fore,” said Lori Knopf, co-owner of the Jumphouse.
The camp was $60 for the weekend, and it was partially subsidized by the existing Matrix cheer parents association. Participants ranged from 10
to 17-years-old. Some of the people who took part were new, some are on the existing cheer team, and others only attended the cheer camp last year and this.
There were 30 participants this year, which is up 10 from last year.
“That would be the top side of the scale that we would ever need going forward, because that’s a lot of people to have the kind of training they had for the weekend,” said Knopf.
This was the second year the Jumphouse has host-ed a cheer camp and plans to continue holding it each spring.
“We’re also considering doing one later this sum-mer for boys only.”

The Bantam Reds AA team had a rough weekend this week. The team played four games at Kinsmen park and unfortunately lost all four. “We had a couple of good games, then we lost all four, but it was alright,” said Coach Jim Crooks. “We didn’t do too bad the afternoon games, but we were a little slug-gish for the morning,” said coach Jim Crooks. The boys are now in Tier Four for the provincials and will be playing in Sherwood Park next weekend. “We should do alright this weekend.”

Emergency workers and members of the community dusted off their golf clubs and took part in the third an-nual Emergency Services Charity Golf Tournament. There were 26 teams who took part in the tournament, playing the full 18 holes.
Golfers started at their respective holes just after 9 a.m. and the last team came in around 3 p.m.
At 8:30 a.m. teams registered, and Debbie Bodner with Strathmore Victim Services, showed off her sales skills, convincing golfers to buy Mulligans, a chance for a do-over on a bad stroke.
MLA Arno Doerkson joined in the day’s activities, as did town councillors Lois Wegener and Earl Best.
Each team started at a different hole, in a shotgun start fashion. There were four people per team, working out to
106 players participating in the event. There were four hole-in-one prizes available, and through many commu-nity donors there was a silent auction.
“I had a great time and I think most of the golfers did and certainly the si-lent auction went well,” said Bodner.
The hole-in-one prizes included a $50,000 for hole four, $10,000 for hole eight, $3,500 to the winner and $500 to team members plus a trip for two to Mexico on hole 13, and a 2010 Chevro-let Aveo for hole 18.
Volunteers took turns manning the green on the hole-in-one holes to en-sure the winners were legitimate. Last year the $50,000 hole-in-one prize was won by Sheldon Watson, and unfor-tunately this year no one won any of them. The Strathmore Fire Department set up a tent and BBQ at the seventh hole, and sold smokies, beer, and wa-ter to hungry and thirsty golfers. They also had a chipping contest set up
where winners were entered into a raffle.
Golfers gathered together for a steak dinner and prizes after finishing their 18 holes. There were prizes awarded to each team that participated and individual prizes for the longest putt and shortest putt among others. The winner of the shortest putt won a lit-tle pink purse and a set of golf balls. Elizabeth Robinson won $527.50 in the winner 50/50 draw.
The Strathmore Fire Department will receive a portion of the money raised this year and Victim Services will re-ceive the rest.
“It’s partly because it’s their 100 an-niversary, and they always help us quite a bit and we thought its time for us to give them something too,” said Bodner.
The golf tournament raised approxi-mately $12,500 this year, which is in the middle of the past two years.

One Strathmore teen is get-ting the chance to prove his bull riding skills at the world’s largest rodeo this summer. Jordan Arbuthnott was picked to be a part of the Allstar high school rodeo team in May and starting June 11 he took part in the Alberta provincial high school rodeo team. He scored a 72 on June 11, didn’t score on June 12 and on the 13 scored 60 with a re-ride op-tion, in which he scored 79.
This won him second place overall in the provincials earning him a place in the 62 annual national high school finals rodeo, NHSFR. The ro-deo is taking place in Gillette,
Wyoming from July 18 to 24. “I’ve been to Alberta finals
before but I’ve never been to nationals before,” said Arbuth-nott.
Only the top four in the province will be going to the NHSFR. Arbuthnott is the only contestant from the area who will be attending the ro-deo for the bull riding section.
“I hope to do my best and cover all my bulls and see what happens,” said Arbuth-nott. Bull riding can be a dan-gerous sport and Arbuthnott has been lucky, with a broken arm and a torn groin being his only injuries to date.
Casper Roy from Strath-more will also be heading to Wyoming to take part in the team roping.

Local bull rider Jordan Arbuthnott, shown here at the Strathmore High School Rodeo during the may long weekend, will attend the 62nd Annual National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming from July 18-24.

The U10 mixed soccer team played against the Foothills Force on June 20. This was the first time the U10 team played against the Force and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
“We did well, we just had a few issues with the refereeing and some of the rough play from the other
team, but other than that it was a good game,” said assistant coach Chantal No-biling.
Currently the team is sit-ting in fourth place in their division and they have one game left on Wednesday June 23 at the Jewish Com-munity Centre in Calgary, before finals.
The U10 wrap up festi-val/city finals will be taking place from June 25 to 27.
Tie game leaves U10 team in fourth
The Strathmore Spurs U10 mixed soccer team earned a 1-1 draw versus the Foothills Force on June 20 at Wheatland elementary.
