IN WHATEVER YOU DO I love putting together a series of messages
that goes through a book of the Bible from
start to finish. It’s always personally illuminat-
ing, stretching, and… fun! 1 Corinthians poses
some challenges, however. It’s one of Paul’s
longest letters – 16 chapters. Some of its con-
tent is a bit obscure and hard to apply to our
21st century world.
I believe the key verse to understanding 1 Co-
rinthians is 10:31 which reads, “So whether
you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all
for the glory of God.” Just like those first be-
lievers in Corinth, we are called to glorify God
through our everyday decisions, actions, and
choices. As we observe how Paul encouraged
and challenged the Corinthians to glorify God
in whatever they did, we will learn some time-
less principles we can apply to our own lives as
we follow Jesus.
We won’t get through all of 1 Corinthians this
Fall. We’ll take a break, enjoy the Advent sea-
son, and complete our study in early 2021. I
hope you will join me weekly either in person
or through livestreaming as we learn more
about what it means to glorify God in whatever
we do. Pastor Rick Breusch

WORSHIP
SERVICE Before the cotton candy begins to swirl and families de-
scend upon our parking lot to play games and collect
loads of candy on October 11, we’ll enjoy our morning
worship on the lawn! The service will begin at 10:30 am
as usual, but everyone is invited to bring lawn chairs or
blankets and take their spot in the field instead of the
pew. If you prefer to sit in your car, you can do that too!
We’ll lift our voices together in praise to our God, so that
all of Northland can hear! We’ll enjoy a beautiful autumn
day as we hear a message from Pastor Rick and just enjoy
being together!
Join us in praying for good weather and that our service
will honor the Lord and attract people to him.

SMALL IN STATURE Sharon Merz My cousin and I visited the museum to which
my father had donated his old Air Force uni-
form. After going through the small museum
and not seeing it, we asked the woman at the
information desk. She asked a few questions,
but came up empty checking the computer
records. Then she offered to check the stor-
age area. Very quickly she re-appeared, car-
rying the uniform on its hanger. She ex-
plained that the museum was just beginning
7
to recover from a severe shortage of help,
which is why the uniform hadn’t been fully
“processed” yet.
Explaining how heavy the uniform was,
the woman handed the hanger to my
cousin. I took his picture holding it, and we
looked at the uniform and talked about it
for a while. I commented that I was
amazed at how small the uniform was. My
cousin agreed, and said with a chuckle, “I
never remember Uncle Cecil being THAT
small!” My father wasn’t tall, but otherwise
he had an average build. I told my cousin
that Dad had entered the service when he
was 17 years old – really just a child. We
commented how often it happens that
men and women entered the military as
children, but then come out as more ma-
ture adults.
David was just a boy when he went to bat-
tle against Goliath. 1 Samuel 17 relates
how David, the youngest son of Jesse, was
taking supplies to his older brothers who
were at war – David was too young to join
Saul’s army. While all of the Israeli army
recoiled at the notion of taking on the Phil-
istine Giant, David agreed to fight him.
Saul’s reaction is registered in verse
33: “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied.
“How can a kid like you fight with a man
like him? You are only a boy, and he has
been in the army since he was a boy!” (The
Living Bible) David persisted and Saul con-
sented to the point of loaning the shep-
herd boy his suit of armor.
But it didn’t fit. “David put it on, strapped
the sword over it, and took a step or two to
see what it was like, for he had never worn
such things before. “I can hardly move!” he
exclaimed, and took them off
again.” (verse 39) Because he was just a
boy, David was likely too small to fit into
armor designed for a grown man. Although
small in stature, David became a hero by
slaying Goliath and causing the entire Phil-
istine army to retreat.
My father never served in a war and never
told me about any great acts of bravery
during his military service. But, like many
children, he was still a hero to me despite
being smaller in stature than others. Dad’s
heroics came in the way he always made
me feel like I was important to him. And
isn’t that just like our Heavenly Father?
“See, I have engraved you on the palms of
my hands,” the Lord says in Isaiah 49:16a
(New International Version.) Being a hero
has nothing to do with stature. David was
small. My Dad was average. God is huge.
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands
Isaiah 49:16a

GRAB & GO LUNCH As with many of the activities at KRBC this year,
we missed getting to spend time with children and
youth at our annual Jesse Coles Day Camp, also
known as the Summer Food Program. One of the
most important aspects of the program is the op-
portunity to get to know children and youth who
live in our church neighborhood. Many of whom
become involved in other activities at KRBC such
as Wednesday night clubs.
Last month we offered a different sort of food
program. It was a COVID style, drive-thru lunch
program. We were able to hand out 220 lunches
to thirty-seven families. We weren’t sure getting
to know families and build friendship was likely
this year, yet we found that most of those who
drove through for those four weeks became regu-
lars. It was a joy to welcome church families, but
we also developed friendships with neighbors as
we provided tangible help and friendship. Each
child received a daily Bible story with a follow-up
craft to take home along with a brown bag
lunch. Many of them asked for their story and ac-
tivity and looked forward to what it would be.
To culminate the month of Grab & Go we hosted
a backpack and school supply give away. Each
child who came for a lunch also received a back-
pack filled with the supplies needed to begin the
school year. We were amazed at your generosi-
ty—there were even extras!
The extra school supplies will come in handy as
we open as a Learning Extension Center (LEC).
The LEC is part of a program in partnership with
Columbus City Schools to support area school
children as they begin the year in virtual learn-
ing. The Lord is already going before us to pre-
pare for this new ministry. Thank you for helping
to make it possible.
This unusual ministry could not have been done
without the help of a dedicated group of volun-
teers who came each weekday to prepare lunch
bags and wait in the summer heat for cars to ar-
rive. Special thanks to each one who
helped. More information about our church and
upcoming activities will be sent to every family
who came. Let's pray that we will be able to wel-
come them again at church. Beth Ash

One of the saddest things about
the COVID-19 season has been
seeing our building shut down for
ministry to children. The young
ones bring life and energy to our
church and their enthusiasm for
learning about God is fun to
watch! Thanks to the decrease in
the number of new coronavirus
cases in our county, we felt it safe
to resume Children’s Church this
month.
Parents of children age 2 through
5th grade can head to the chil-
dren’s wing at 10:15 am on Sun-
day mornings. Once through the
double doors into the children’s
hallway, everyone will stop at the
check-in station where kiddos will
get a quick temperature check
and receive a mask if needed.
From there the kiddos will head
to their classroom where teach-
ers will be eager to greet them.
Rest assured measures will be
taken to encourage frequent
hand washing and maintain social
distance as much as possible. We
hope to see you on a Sunday
morning very soon!
Also starting up this month is our
Wednesday evening Kids’ Clubs.
On the 23rd, the building will
come to life again with our Boys
Brigade group meeting in-person
in the Fellowship Hall. The GEMS
girls will continue meeting online
to start the year. The adult lead-
ers are eager to re-connect with
the club kids and hope to meet a
few new kids as well. Please invite
your neighbors and friends to join
us for any of our ministries to
children. More info—website >

Dear Pastor Rick,
I pray that you and your family are well.
I would like to inform you about my present plans
for retirement. I will be retiring on December 31,
2020. I had originally planned to come home in
early October in order to have a 3 month home
assignment immediately before retiring. I was
planning to use that time to travel to churches to
say a final good-bye and thank you, visit the mis-
sion headquarters for a debriefing, and to attend
the IM board meetings where I was invited to a
dinner for all who had retired in 2020. Because
of the restrictions that are in place due to the
global pandemic, I would not be able to accom-
plish those objectives, and therefore I have made
the decision to stay in Thailand for those last
three months.
I will extend my time in Thailand for another 4 to
6 months after the date of my retirement. This is
to give me the time needed to say proper good-
byes so that I can leave Thailand well, be in Thai-
land as a consultant to the ministries until Mark
and Alise Juanes have completed language
school, and hopefully, have long enough so that
the risk of being infected with Covid-19 has been
decreased. When I do come back to the US, I plan
on making Columbus my home.
I am looking forward to meeting with you some
time in the Spring of 2021.
Blessings, Kim

Dear Friends at KRBC the hanging basket of
flowers were beautiful but they became even
more when I read the card “KRBC” ...a wave of
love came over me. Your love and prayers have
brought God’s love to me again and again! We
are a family in Christ. - Love Becky Yoho
Dear Karl Road Baptist Church , Bill and I are so
grateful for your financial support during the
tough economy of the Covid shutdown. Friends
like you faithfully supported our minis-
try. Thank you! We’re blessed to have a core
group of people who faithfully give in good and
bad economic times. Because of your gifts, we
have not missed a coaching appointment or a
training time with church leaders. At the present
our budget needs are being met. Praise
God! Your gifts are a constant reminder of God’s
faithfulness. He loves your faithful gifts (2
Cor.9:7)! We could not do this ministry without
your partnership. Thank you! For His Glory,
Peggy & Bill Mowry
We want to extend our sincere thanks to Don's
Karl Road Baptist church family for all of the
prayers, cards, love and support he received
while he was battling pancreatic cancer and for
all of the kind expressions of care and sympathy
we have received since Don's death. Don fought
with courage and faith and we all have appreciat-
ed the care and support we have received from
his Karl Road Baptist church family. We want to
extend special thanks to Pastor Breusch for all
his help and care during Don's battle, to Al
Cooper for the suggestion of The Grand of Dub-
lin SNF, and to the church and Laurie Huston for
the wonderful meal delivered to us following
Don's graveside service. God bless you all. The
family of Don Middleton (Jim, Janet,
Dan & Jeannette and Carrie & Michael)

never felt so much love from my KRBC family. I
thank God for each and every one of you. Please
continue to keep me in your prayers as I will con-

my love to all. I will be forever be grateful for
your kindness, Thanks again from the bottom of
my heart -Joyce Merchant
