GENRE: YOGA
INSPIRATIONAL MAGAZINE: YOGA
JOURNAL
NEWSSTAND VISIT
This picture shows my
visit to the news stand.
The publication that
caught my eye the most
magazines in the yoga
genre. Specifically, Yoga
Journal appealed to me
the most. I liked how the
cover image had a
different yogi doing a
different yoga pose with
each issue.
NEWSSTAND VISIT CONTINUED
I liked Yoga Journal’s overall magazine the best
because it advertised articles that I had an interest
in. However, I found another yoga magazine titled
“Buddha’s Devine” I enjoyed the colorful
psychedelic designs on it. Although I loved
Buddha’s Devine designs the articles in Yoga
Journal was more appealing to my interests.
REFLECTION
The newsstand visit was inspiring for me. It helped
get the creative juices flowing and gave me ideas
for my magazine. I learned that I want to put the
psychedelic elements from Buddha’s Devine and tie
it in with Yoga Journal’s elements to create a hybrid
magazine. This meaning, my magazine is going to
be inspired with a combination of both magazines.
As far a table of contents goes Yoga Journal’s was
a better lay out for me. It’s organization is clean cut
and easy to follow.
INSPIRATION
This picture is a little
confusing but I am
indeed holding the
January 2015 edition
of Yoga Journal
magazine. This
magazine is
inspirational to me
because I could see
my magazine looking
very similar to it.
YOGA JOURNAL MAGAZINE’S 2014
YOGA JOURNAL MAGAZINE’S 2014
This is my second
favorite cover image
because there is a male
on the cover. I like how
the male yogi breaks the
stereotypical girl doing
yoga. Having a male
shows yoga is for
everyone.

INSPIRATIONAL MAGAZINE SPECIFICALLY
The magazine I read had a lot of information in it.
Mostly, it had similar content to previous Yoga
Journal magazine. This magazine specifically listed
several poses and the benefits each one does for
your body in a yoga practice. This magazine also
gave recipes of nutritious foods. This magazine
specified into Haiti’s condition post earth-quake and
what people are doing to give back. The target
audience is for people who have an interest in
yoga.
QUESTIONS
The central image of every Yoga Journal magazine
is a well-known yogi doing a different pose each
issue.
Most are taken in a studio with a plain background
The format of the magazine is generally the same.
The font of the masthead is the same although
colors can vary. The layout is always the same. It is
very plane with different sized fonts and generally
the same color.
FAVORITE COVER IMAGE
This Yoga Journal
magazine is the most
inspiring to me. I love
the cover image’s
camera angle. The
camera focuses the
camera angle from a
low angle shot as if
lifting up the cover
model. This uplifting
images matches the
main coverline.
