IS YOUR HAIR

G R O W I N G » " G 0 I N G ?stand in front of • mirror. T ak t a long hard

look at the top of your head. Do you have as

much hair a* one year ago? Do y ou see any newhair growth ? If you r answer is no, IT is impo r

tant that yo u take steps today to save the hai r

yo u now have. If you act now, you may be able

to reverse the trend on your head. You may be

able to grow new hair faster th an IT ii falling

out. Wouldn't you like to look in the mirror a

year fro m now and see more hair on yo ur head

than yo u see now? W h y lose your hair IF you

don'T have to?

Every year thousands of men and women go

bal d - need lessly - because of a scalp infec tion.

This scalp infection is called seborrhea. Doctor*

say that three germ organisms cause seborrhea:

BTAPHYLOCCOCUS alb ut, p it yr osp or um ov ale, a nd

microbacillus. T hese germs attack the sebactous

glands and the hair follicles themselves. If not

checked, permanent damage is done. The hair

follicles atrophy, lose their ability to produce

new hairs. Th e resul t: prem atur e baldness.

Yo u can easily tell IF you are a victim of

seborrhea. If you have itchy scalp, dandruff,

hair loss, very dry or oily scalp, the chances are

that you have seborrhea. Neglect these symp

toms and you invite baldness. Treat your scalp

to Ward 's Formula. This amaxing scalp medi

cine quickly controls seborrhea and stops the

ha ir loss IT causes.

I d seconds, Ward 's Formula kills these three

growth. This has been proven in scientific tests

by a world-famous testing labo ratory (report sent

on request). Ward's removes infectious d andr uff, stops scalp itch, brings hair-nourishing blood to

the scalp, tends to normaliie very dry or oily

scalp. Ward's corrects the ugly symptoms of

seborrhea, stops the hair loss it causes. Ward's

has been tried by more than 550.000 men and

women on our famous Dou ble -Yo ur- Mo ney -

Back-Guarantee. Onl y 1 .9% of these men and

women were not helped by Ward 's and asked for

their double refund. This is truly an amasing

performance. Treat your scalp with Ward ' s

Formula. Try it at our  riak. In only 10 days you

must see and feel the mark ed imp rov eme nt in

your scalp and hair. You r dan druff must be gone.

Your scalp itch must stop. Your hair must look

more ottractive and alive. Your hair loss due to

seborrhea must stop. You must be delighted with

the results, or simply return the unused portion

for your double refund. We take all the risk.So why delay? Delay may cost your hair.

I've goT 0 whole room full of medals.

Every doy more and more arrive from allparts of the world. The city wants to buy my

little house and moke it into a notional shrine.

For this I figure I've got time to decide. Al

ready they have even started to put me in the

history books. What i tell you now is nothing

new because I have repeated the same thing

before a lot of Investigating Committees and

Scientific Groups. You see when I was o little

boy my father soid to me:

' Mox I wont you always to tell the

truth. We Wendells have never been liars. We

are good honest fo lk s. "Believemeit is the truthl I am no genius

but just a piotn ordinary hard working Ameri

can citizen trying to moke o few dollars to

support his family . Of course now 1 won' t hove

to worry about money since the Scientific

Foundation has set as ide a fund for me. 1 can

use the money as I see fit. They did give me

a gentle hint 1 shou ld spend some time on

scientific research. Me? 1 never even finished

the second term in high school . 1 got ex

pelled for punching Louis Byrnes in the right

eye and because I fai led four out of five

major subjects.

I guess if anyone is really to get the

credit for building that space ship Stupos it

is Mrs. Henrietta G ol lb u, the science teacher

of my son, Joe. 1 remember the Thu rsd ay night

when Joe told me the news.

" P o p , maybe you con he lp me. Mrs.

Gollub Wil l gi ve a hundred percent to any

student who builds the best model of a space

sh ip . "

^" A n y s i z e ? " come out of my lip«"Come to think of i*, pop* continued

my son. " S he didn 't me.ition the size« Why

can' t we bu ild a real big one on the old park

ing lot in your Amus enent Park? Maybe the

big co mpo iies would give us the ports free

for advertisina?"

So you see right now that the next credit

goes to my son, Joe. He was always thinking

of how to help me with that Amusement Park.Of course he charged me for his ideas at

the rate of fifty cents each. Ac tua lly the

Amusement Pork hod belonged to my uncle

Leo. When he died he left it to me. It wasn't

too much of a good proposition but it did give

me a liv ing. That is where I met The lmo. She

was a cashier and every night we sould

count up the receipts.

'M don't think you con afford to keep me

much lo nger ," she said the summer that busi

ness was so bad. ''Fire me qnd you sove

sixty dollars o week. You need that money. "

When a woman thinks so much of you it

is a good sign you better keep her closer. So

we got married two weeks later and she still

was cash ier at the booth. She worked there

until Joe was born. By that time some genius

hod invented o ticket selling machine so I

really didn 't have te hire an extra person at

that.

Saturday morning I went early to the

Amusement Pork with Joe. We looked through

our Junk Shed. We kept a lot of odds and endsfrom broken down equipment in that shed and

a  lot of steel plates.

" P o p , " began my son, "start right away

with the build of the space ship so people

can watch it grow. 1 will write a lot of letters

to different companies asking for those

tree ports.

'I think it is stupid," was my reply.

" P o p you ore o gp ni us ," my son tells

me. " Y o u got the name for the space ship.

We'l I coll i t Stupos."

So that i show it started. Not one of those

companies turned down ooi offsr •o get free

parts from them. Some even sent engineers to

install the ports. Others sent me blue prints.

And we began to weld together those steel

plates until the hull of the space ship was

finished. Mrs. Gollub brought the whole closs

Page 27: Konga "The Scourge Of Mars" June 1964

down to see the ship as it was taking form.

She gave Joe a hundred per cent and patted

him on the head.

" It is a wonderful thing you and your son

• are doing, Mr. Wendel ls. Maybe when it is

all through you can bring it to the school

yard and we con put it on disp lay all year

round, was what she told me.

My income tax return is proof enough

thatwedidgood business. And a lot of people

come to see the spaceship and ask ques tio ns ,

but I didn 't know the answers. Fina lly I

figured out one answer that wasn't on answer

and yet was an answer to all quest ions:

"When I get it up in the aid and we fly

then I will be able to answer that question of

yours.

Soon pictures of the space ship Stupos

began to appear in the different magazinesand newspapers. It certainly was helping

business at the Amusement Pork. Then they

put me on Frank Fa rad ay' s TV Program. He

asked me that one big question:

"When do you intend to launch the space

ship Stupos?"

I just didn 't know what to say. How could

that thing be launched? I almost swallowed

my Adam's Apple trying to think of what to

think of what to reply. But you have to give

Frank Faraday credit. He was quick to see

my difficulty and with a big grin on his face

he rescued me.

" I guess it is a con fident ial secret. So

don't answer it. But the whole world will be

watching you when you fly into outer space

and all our prayers will be for your safety.

Then soon came the day when the public

would be able to walk inside and see an

actual space ship in complete detail and all

outfitted. So late that Frida y night I drove with

Joe to the Amusement Park. We would have

the space ship opened completely for thatSaturday. The night watchman saw us come

and removed the big chain to the pork.

"Good evening Mr. Wen de ll s, " he greet-

me. " I guess you are going to check on your

space ship."

So father and son went inside the big

space ship . We made sure that everything

was fastened down well because parts could

vanish when the visitors wanted to take them

home as souvenirs. And then it must hove

happened. My right hand touched a switch.

There was a loud roar and a blast.

"We ore movino vp v. cr di ," shouts my

son. 'Hold on tight, pop ! "

Believe me we both held tight for dear

life. And that space ship started to gain al

titude. Of course I was scared. Joe had to

be in school on Monday morning and maybe

we wouldn't get back to Earth ever! We |ust

kept on going and soon we could see some

thing very small. We were leav ing Earth be

hind us. My son looked and looked at me.

Then he tells me something important.

"I feel hungry, pop. Le t's ea t. "

So that was our first meal in outer space.

And soon messages began to come in our

radio transmitter and also on the TV Screen

we hod in the croft. Important government .officials began to ask questions. But I just

couldn't answer them. They told me what to

do. And soon the specia lists from the com

panies that gave us the ports con tributed their

advice with my son Joe toking down notes

in longhand.

We just kept circling the earth. And at

the end of two weeks our food supply was

getting low. Meanwhile all over the world

they were setting up rescue stations to help

us when we landed.

"There must be some way to land this

th ing," I ins isted.

But the specioTists and the engineers

disagreed on what we should do. One thing

was certain. They wanted us airv e because

there was so much they could learn from us.

Even Mrs. Gollub sent a special message to

Joe telling him that the princ ipal of the

school had excused his abscences, but he

shou ld hurry back because they were soon

going to hove the big mid term exmaination.

1 looked at all of the switches and finally gound the one that I hod acci dentally

touched. I noticed it could go two way s. So

what did 1 hove to lo se . I just deliberately

threw it the other way . An d the next thing

you know we were headed bock to earth. We

landed three miles out from the Amusement

Pork in a big empty corn field. Soon the

State Pol ice were there. Later came men from

the different Federa l Ag enc ies . They took us

to Washington for a  special meeting with

everybody. We were happy ond tired. While

we were awoy my wife looked after bus iness,at the Amusement Pork.

Now they are bu ild ing all those many

space ships based upon Stupos. I see that

tomorrow 1 have to go and get another Hono

rary Deg ree from another big Universi ty. But

there is one thing that does moke me happy.

A father likes *r- hove his son look up to him.

And it is the wty that Joe speaks about me

to everyone that gives my heart such o lift.

"T h a t' s my pop! He did it all by him se li

Some smart pop I got! A kid like me is lucky

to have him."

Next year 1 am going to take' Joe to the

Moon in the big space ship I designed with

the help of some two hundred experts in the

field. Then I guess I will have nwre to tell

you. So forgive me for not saying more. 1 got

to help my wife Thelmo count tfie receipts

from the Amusement Prrk.
