You need to decide where your solarcollector will be positioned on your house.To get the best efficiency, the collectorshould be installed facing due south atan angle of 30-40. Vacuum tubes can berotated to help compensate for less thanperfect roof angles in order to maximizeenergy absorption.

It is important that the solar hot watersystem is sized correctly in relation to thenumber of occupants in your house tomaximize efficiency. There are two typicalcollector sizes for homes a 2m collectorfor a home with one or two adults or a 3mcollector for one with three to ve adults.

A twin coil hot water storage tankenables energy input from the centralheating system to the top half of thetank and energy input from solar systemto the bottom half of the tank. Werecommend a stainless steel unit for usein a pressurised system and copper foruse in an open vented system.

supply up to 70% of free hot water throughout the year. In the
summer months it is estimated that at least 95% of all hot
water is free. Therefore the boiler will be switched off, which
means less contamination of the atmosphere from the
emission of ue gases and lower energy bills.
