LY actuators offer new economies and increased
power and/or control options, plus all the innovative
features that have made Limitorque the brand of
choice all over the world. These quality actuators
have all the basic design features of other units
manufactured by Limitorque.
Count on the LY Series to meet the
most demanding specifications and to
perform as expected
for years to come.
Torque ratings range
from 200 to 1200 ft.
lbs. (270 to 1625
Nm) for application
versatility that
includes submersible,
weatherproof, or
explosionproof enclosures. Compact components and
space-efficient profiles provide durability and
handling benefits. Modular design uses standardized
components to reduce manufacturing costs and to
simplify installation and service. Torque switches are
interchangeable between LY 1001, LY 2001, and LY
3001, double acting and fully adjustable. Optional
controls include printed circuit board and plug-in
modules. Up to 16 adjustable limit switch contacts
are available.

Limitorque Actuation Systems
Specify LY Series wherever precise valve control is required.LY Series actuators suit a wide range of applications requiring precise torque and limitcontrol. They can be relied upon to perform dayafter day, year after year, under the mostdemanding conditions. Units are suitable forweatherproof, submersible, and explosionproofenvironments and are available for single orthree-phase power requirements.
These versatile actuators provide cost-efficientposition control of a variety of different valves. This includes butterfly, ball, and plug valves, aswell as dampers.
The LY Series is especially useful for intelligent control system applications. Printedcircuit boards, plug-in modules, and up to 16effective switch contacts provide an abundanceof possibilities for functions and networking.
When it is used with UEC-3 modulating controlpackages, precise control can be achieved.
A Distributed Digital Control network can control up to 250 actuators and devices using asingle twisted-pair or duplex fiber optic cable.Cabling cost reductions, redundancy, and faultreporting enhance the economy and utility ofthis approach.
Limitorque actuators can be controlled by amaster station or directly via standard Modbusprotocols using a third-party PLC or DCS.

These LY 1001 actuators are serving as part of a DDC-100 control network in the harsh, corrosiveenvironment of an automated, offshore well head.(Control compartments are mounted on the top ofthese units for easier accessibility.)
In many instances, Limitorque distributed digitalcontrol networks allow you to connect actuators andother field units directly to the network host—savingthe cost and complexity of a separate master station.
Minimize maintenance and servicerequirements.Superior engineering, the highest constructionstandards in the world, and innovative designfeatures are responsible for the low-maintenancerequirements and long-term reliability of the LYSeries.
Design features like the pre-wired terminalblocks and separate drive nut adapters greatlysimplify installation. Simple, modular designfacilitates what little routine maintenance may berequired.
These exceptional units can be counted on formany years of trouble-free operation because ofquality features like o-ring seals, corrosion-resistant hardware, durable epoxy coating*, andanti-condensation heaters. Should a unit requireservice, there is ready availability of Limitorqueparts and factory-authorized service from locations around the world.
Limitorque also offers a variety of trainingoptions for maintenance personnel either atLimitorque facilities or customers’ sites.

Control packages incorporate modular componentsand pre-wired terminal strips to facilitate fieldinstallation. Plug-in modules easily accommodateadditional functions. The metal compartment isepoxy-coated* and O-ring-sealed. Mountingbrackets and hardware are corrosion-resistant toprovide years of service-free operation.
Installation, maintenance, and service arefacilitated by LY Series design features like thisremovable torque drive nut that provides an easyinterface between actuator and valve. Otherstandard components capitalize on the cost-efficiency of modularity and partsinterchangeability.

Limitorque Actuation Systems
Designed and built for reliable, cost-effective valve control.
LY Series actuators are created following the highest of quality standards. Units meet all AWWA 504-87 and 540-87requirements. Standard features such as steel-on-bronzeworm gear sets, anti-friction bearings throughout, and adurable epoxy coating* meet high-performance criteria.
Other important features include mechanical adjustablestops for 90° rotation with ±10° adjustment. Declutchlevers allow handwheel operation. Motors have class-Finsulation and two thermal contacts rated at 125°C. Controlcompartment heaters prevent corrosion damage due tomoisture caused by condensation. Dial position indicatorsprovide local monitoring of valve position.

Hexavalentchromate finishing isapplied to interior sections. The combination coatingserves as a primer if adifferent coating is required.
Terminal strips simplify field connections. Allelectrical components are pre-wired to the terminalstrips to facilitateinstallation.
Limit switches areindependently adjustable. The standard units include8 SPDT limit switches.
Torque switches providecontrol of output torque and protect valve andactuator from mechanicaloverload in either direction.Switches are fullyadjustable andinterchangeable between all LY models.

Limitorque Actuation Systems
A wide range of options are available.Limitorque provides a full range of options and custom modifications, including torque ratings, operating times, and rotary motion.Single actuators can be equipped to respond within precise parameters for sophisticated process control. Cost-efficient network applica-tions can include Limitorque components that are designed and manufactured especially for integration into a direct-to-host or optionalmaster station system. Below are some of these options:
Modutronic™ position control packages allow more precise valveposition control than is possible with basic integral control. Thesepackages are useful as part of an integrated system requiringresponse by degrees for sophisticated process control. From sim-ple positioning of a valve to sophisticated microprocessor control,Modutronic control packages offer a full range of options.
DDC-100 distributed digital control systems provide a fully integrated, microprocessor-based network to control and monitorvalve actuators and other devices. Network intelligence is distrib-uted over a shielded twisted-pair. An LY Series actuator isconnected to a digital network by installing a plug-in printed circuit board in the integral control package. Control capabilitiesresident within the LY can be significantly expanded with the addi-tion of the optional UEC-3 module.
Selector switches and LEDs provide local control. These are available with or without integral controls.
Potentiometers allow precise, continuousindication of valve position at a remotelocation. Coupled with an R/I converter(shown above), potentiometers provide aneconomical 4-20 milliamp position feed-back signal for remote indication. Bothsingle and dual feedback options include50 or 1000 ohm ratings.
Optional double pole, double throw limitswitch assembly provides a total of 16effective limit switch contacts. The addi-tional contacts allow external indication oflimit switch travel and trip.
