Descripon:
Proven primary standard
Pressure balances / Deadweight testers are the most
accurate instruments available on the market for the
calibraon of electronic or mechanical pressure
measuring instruments. The direct measurement of
the pressure (p = F/A), as well as the use of high-
quality materials enable a very small measurement
uncertainty, in conjuncon with an excellent long-
term stability of five years (recommended in
accordance with the German Calibraon Service
DKD/DAkkS).
The deadweight tester has therefore been used for
years in factory and calibraon laboratories in
industry, naonal instutes and research laboratories.
Stand-alone operaon
Due to ist integrated pressure generaon and the
pure mechanical measuring principle, the model
is ideal for on-site use forLDW-HKLR-Cal
maintenance and service.
Basic principle
Pressure is defined as the quoent of force and area.
The core component of the isLDW-HKLR-Cal
therefore a very precisely-manufactured piston-
cylinder system, which is loaded with masses in order
to generate the individual test points.
The masses applied are proporonal to the target
pressure and this is achieved through opmally
graduated masses. As standard, these masses are
manufactured to the standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²),
though they can be adjusted to a specific locaon and
also UKAS calibrated.

LDW-HKDeadweight Tester / Pressure Balance
Hydraulic & Compact Design
1
Easy operaon
The integrated dual-area
spindle pump enables
rapid priming of the test
system and smooth
pressure generaon up
to 1200 bar. At the same
me, the precise
adjustable spindle pump
also enables fine
pressure adjustment. A
control schemac for
pressure generaon on
the instrument base
facilitates quick and
easy operaon.
As soon as the
measuring system
reaches equilibrium,
there is a balance of
forces between the
pressure and the mass
load applied. The
excellent quality of the
system ensures that
this pressure remains
stable over several
minutes, so that the
pressure value for
comparave measurements can be read without any
problems, or also so that more complex adjustments
can be carried out on the item under test.
Compact instrument design
The deadweight tester is alsoLDW-HKLR-Cal
parcularly notable for ist compact dimensions, which
are not altered during operaon, since the spindle
runs within the pump body.
With its compact dimensions, the exceponally robust
ABS plasc housing and the low weight associated
with these, the pressure balance isLDW-HKLR-Cal
also parcularly suited to on-site applicaons.
The piston-cylinder system
The piston and cylinder of the areLDW-HKLR-Cal
manufactured from tungsten carbide.
This pairing of materials, in comparison to other
materials, has very low pressure and temperature
coefficients of expansion, which results in a very good
linearity for the cross-seconal area and a very high
accuracy.
Piston and cylinder are very well protected, against
contact, impacts or contaminaon from outside, in a
solid stainless steel housing. At the same me,
overpressure protecon is integrated, which prevents
the piston from being forced out vercally and avoids
damage to the piston-cylinder system in the event of
mass removal under pressure.

LDW-HKDeadweight Tester / Pressure Balance
Hydraulic & Compact Design
The masses are stacked on an overhang (bell jar),
which sits on the piston sha. The construcon of the
overhang (bell jar) provides a very low centre of
gravity for the stacked weights, which minimises both
the side thrust on the piston-cylinder system and the
fricon. For smaller starng pressures, the masses can
also be stacked directly onto the piston sha, without
using the overhang (bell jar).
The overall design of the piston-cylinder unit and the
very precise manufacturing of both the pison and
the cylinder, ensures excellent operang
characteriscs with long free-rotaon me and low
sink rates.
Thus a high long-term stability is ensured. Therefore
the recommended recalibraon interval is five years
depending on the condions of usage.

Separators
The separators (with diaphram) have been specifically
designed for measuring instruments, which should
not come into contact with the medium of the
deadweight tester or to protect against contaminaon
of the pressure balance from the test items.
Test connecons
With the exisng standard test item connecon, test
items with radial bo om connecon can be mounted.
For units with axial rear connecon, a 90° angle
connector is available. With a 3/4" BSP female to 1/2"

LDW-HKDeadweight Tester / Pressure Balance
Hydraulic & Compact Design
Intelligent Calibraon Module LR- IKMCal
The Intelligent Calibraon Module is aIKMLR-Cal
compact tool for use with a deadweight tester /
pressure balance. In parcular when highly-accurate
measuring values, with measurement uncertaines of
less than 0.025%, are required, complicated
mathemacal calculaons and correcons are
necessary. With the , all crical ambientIKMLR-Cal
parameters can be registered and automacally
corrected.
LR-Cal IKM Basic package
The basic package converts masses intoIKMLR-Cal
the corresponding pressure value, or vice versa, it
calculates the masses required for a specific pressure
value with consideraon to the local gravity, for
locaon-independent measurements. The conversion
can be carried out in all common pressure units. The
input of all parameters takes place manually.
Metrology-Extension
The Metrology-Extension includes sensors to
automacally register all crical parameters such as
ambient temperature, air pressure, relave humidity
and piston temperature and to update calculaons
connually.
Transmi er-Extension
Furthermore, with the Transmi er-Extension, a
calibrator funcon for pressure transmi ers can be
integrated. With this, the sensor to be tested, without
addional power can be supplied with 24 VDC voltage
and the output signal (V, mA) can be measured.
Besides the signal, the automacally converted
pressure value is also shown on the display.
Visualisaon-Extension
With the Visualisaon-Extension for „piston posion
indicaon“, the piston posion can be measured
(contact free) and shown on the with highIKMLR-Cal
resoluon (not available for dual-range piston-
cylinder systems).

Module can be found in datasheet „IKM“.IKMLR-Cal
