Tagore's poems. Dr Jadhav hastranslated 151 of Tagore'spoems in his book BhayshunyaChitt Jeth.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr

Jadhav recounted how Tagore'sGitanjali had inspired him tostart reading Tagore's work."Tagore's work has been appre-ciated worldwide. However,very few of his poems havebeen translated in Marathi andthus we have been deprieved ofTagore's treasures," said Jadhav.

Jadhav has mainly translat-ed the poems from Tagore'sEnglish translations of his ownpoems. "Tagore has writtenaround 2,500 poems andalmost an equalrnumber ofsongs. He has written on differ-ent moods like love, worship,swadeshi and even death. 99per cent of Marathi people donot even know that Tagore

wrote a brilliant five-pagepoem on Shivaji Maharaj,"added Jadhav,

After releasing the book,Guizar also spoke about howTagore's poetry had been instru-mental in shaping the course ofhis life. "As a child, I startedreading story books till I got myhands on one of Tagore's booksone fine day. I have had a longassociation with Bengali litera-ture. It inspired me in such away that from that day mychoice of books underwent acomplete change. I learnt toread in Bengali so that I couldunderstand Tagore's poems bet-ter," said Guizar.

Pointing at the importance

in educating the present gener-ation about people like Tagore,GuIzar said, "I am not againstchildren learning aboutShakespeare. But in theprocess, they should not missout on the magic of Tagore andKalidas. There is a need ofintroducing their works in ourchildren's text books today.Even I am trying to translateTagore's work and bring out abook for children. And I amthankful to Dr Jadhav becausehis work w,ill be able to help mein my translation too."
