Review definitions prior to using objects in a query
Be sure to compare values across files Objects with the same name sometimes have
different meanings and value sets

Slice and Dice Wonderful tool in M2 Allows you to manipulate data without re-running After your results are returned, use slice and dice to:
Rearrange Filter Sort Remove data elements Insert calculations
Link M2 files by common elements

What Next? Can hit save
Saves the “.rep” file; keeps your changes, can be re-run later Can hit “edit / copy all” to put on clipboard
Can easily paste into spreadsheet software WYSIWYG; keeps your changes
Can use “export” button (blue Rubik’s Cube toolbar button) to Export entire raw data cube that does not contain your

Building Your Own Ad Hoc Reports in M2
35
CAPER is a huge file; Summary has fewer elements and runs faster
Open up DD Record Description How often is the CAPER updated?
See Appt Status Class Provider Aggregate RVUs – PPS’s new way to
look at provider RVUs vs. Enhanced Total RVUs
CAPER – Summary and Detail files in M2

CAPER – Summary and Detail files in M2
How many encounters and RVUs at your: MTF? Parent MTF? Region? Multi-Service Market Area? Etc….
Identify needed data elements using data dictionary My MTF (“Tmt DMIS ID”), FY, Provider Aggregate RVUs,
Provider Aggregate Total RVUs, Encounters, only MEPRS1 = B
In CAPER Detail file: Change Edit Flag Remember some edits are being applied to CAPERs prior to
assigning RVUs To understand when code edits have been applied and why
37
Let’s build our first query
38
• Blank M2 Screen
• Functionality is greyed out when it can’t be used
• “New File” and “Open File” buttons look just like in regular Office products
• Hit the “New File” button
39
M2 Query Panel
• List of files
• Results panel
• Conditions panel
40
Quick overview:
• Open and close boxes to the left
• Review file names
• Consider files described in earlier lecture
41
Open CAPER Summary
• Find objects you want in your report and drag to “results panel”
42
M2 will only retrieve the objects you ask it to retrieve
43
•Use conditions panel to limit data
•From entire world, to area of interest
•If I hit run now with no conditions………
44
•Use conditions panel to limit data
•From entire world, to area of interest
•If I hit run now with no conditions………
I would get the whole MHS and all the years that are in M2! not what I want
45
• List of operators
• Click the one you want
46
After clicking “equal to”, a set of options are displayed
47
Select from the list of values
48
• Add additional filters
• Hit Run
49
We always double-check our results
• Check to ensure it reflects the filters you applied
FY = ???
Tmt Parent DMIS ID = ??
MEPRS1 Code = B
•Do the numbers look reasonable? If not, maybe your query needs to be modified
50
• To modify your query
- The query panel is the only place you can modify what is pulled from the database
• Hit button that looks like a golden keg to modify the query
51
•Query panel,
•But isn’t opened to the table you were using
•To modify, open up CAPER Summary and go from there
52
53
What Next? Slice and Dice

Using M2
Using M2 is as simple as: Dragging and Dropping to give the computer
instructions for your query; and Doing the dreaded WORD PROBLEM!
The software is easy! The word problem can be hard
WISDOM Course Focus on the word problem
55
Recap and What Next? Congratulations; you have
Used corporate documents Written your own basic query Used the M2 data dictionary Modified a query Saved a query Put query results in Excel!
