As the picturesque resort o Budva, one o the oldest and most historic Cities
on the Adriatic Sea, prepares to host this weekends Hypo Group Montenegrin
Grand Prix, round two o the 2008 Class 1 World Powerboat Championship and
the rst o our races or the Class 1 tour in Europe, the 2007 World and European
Champions, Victory Team, has conrmed it will be orced to race without deending
World Champion, Ari Sai Al Zaeen.
Victory 1s, Al Zaeen, who won the opening Edox Pole Position and Grand Prix o
the season in Qatar with Nadir Bin Hendi, is orced to sit out the race on medical
advice ater sustaining serious back injuries in a crash during a Formula 2 race in
Egypt several weeks ago. But whilst the loss o Al Zaeen is a bitter blow or the
team, Victory has been able to call on the services o ormer World and Middle East
Champion, Mohammed Al Marri - a veteran o over 50 Grands Prix and with nine
race wins and 26 podiums already to his credit - to step into the drivers seat.
Victorys main championship rivals, Qatar, will see this enorced change as a
possible opportunity to close the gap in the title race and to take their rst win
o the season, and although Sheikh H assan and Steve Curtis will be running their
spare boat or a second consecutive race, a switch rom Mercury V8s back to
Skema V12 power-plants and considerable modications to Qatar 96, may well
give them the edge they need.
Any outside challenge to Victory and Qatar in the race and to their early st ranglehold
on the top our positions in the championship standings, could well largely depend
on the conditions that the teams will ace in Budva, when they line up or the
23-lap, 94.50Nm Hypo Group Montenegrin Grand Prix. I the anticipated rough
seas on the outside leg o the course around the Island o Sveti Nikola materialise,
Foresti & Suardi, Negotiator and Jotun may well be amongst the challengers or
podium positions.
Giorgioshores Nicola Giorgi and Giorgio Manuzzi will look to build on their very
solid top six nish last time out and are condent o an improved showing when
they line-up in Budva in only their second outing in their Michael Peters-designed
Victory-hull, SeveneleveN, with the all new Spanish-outt o Cirilli and Carrasco
in Roscioli Hotels and Jerome Brardas American based team, Windmare Racing
making their 2008 debuts this weekend.

MONTAVOCI AND SELMER CONFIDENT OF STRONG
SHOWING IN MONTENEGRO
sti & Suardi duo, Giampaolo Montavoci and Kolbjorn Selmer have spent the last two weeks
king up the miles testing on Italys Lake Iseo, and are condent o a strong showing this
kend. It was important that we got as many miles in as possible to be r eady or Budva, said
egian driver, Kolbjorn Selmer. The tests went well we t ried out a new steering system and
iety o dierent propeller and ratio settings, and although the conditions in Montenegro are
to be rough, unlike the fat calm o the lake the tests proved a valuable exercise or us.
made a solid start in Qatar but now we are back in the number one boat we are aiming or an
stronger showing and hoping or rough seas.
QATAR READY TO TAKE THE FIGHT TO VICTORY
Sheikh Hassan and Steve Curtis have an improved boat or this weekends Hypo Group
Montenegrin Grand Prix and are ready to take the ght to their main rivals and championship
leaders, Victory 1. Matteo and his guys have put a lot o work in to upgrade the spare boat
or this race and or sure we will have more perormance than in Doha, said Curtis.
Sheikh Hassan and Curtis were orced into their spare boat with Mercury V8s or the opening
race o the season, ater a crash in qualiying wrecked their race boat but in Budva they
run their avoured Skema V12 power-plants. Running our V12s will make a dierence but
whether or not we have enough (power) to match Victory is still questionable but i we get
rough seas on the outside leg we will be in good shape.
The pre-race tests have gone well, said team manager and Qatar 95 throttleman, Matteo
Nicolini. Steve and Luca tested or two days and the perormance (o 96) is ver y good. We
made some hull modications and also aerodynamic ones and Steve has worked on the boat
to make his own adjustments to have a boat similar to what he has been used to in 2007.
RUNNING REPAIRS AND UPGRADES
Ugland Oshore Racing will be looking to kick-start its title challenge and put points on the
board in Budva, ater technical problem in the season opener robbed Jotun o a podium nish,
and the MTI, Mercury powered raceboat has spent the last ew weeks in the teams workshop
in Fredrikstad in Norway undergoing a major overhaul. The time we have had between
races was the perect opportunity or us to upgrade certain areas o the boat and to make
key modications that will improve her overall perormance, said team manager, Per Carsten
Michelsen. We have worked on the hull and made modications to the tr ansmission, as well
as completely rewiring the boat.
CIRILLI AND CARRASCO READY FOR
BUDVA DEBUT
Having elected to sit-out the rst race o the season, Domenico Cirilli will
unveil his new all-Spanish team in Budva, with Sergio Mora Carrasco
making his Class 1 debut this weekend. The team will run the Victory
hull that Cirilli raced in 2007 with Scam V12 power-plants under the
colours o new sponsor, Roscioli Hotels. Sergio has made a very strong
impression with me, said Cirilli, a veteran o over 40 Grands Prix. He
has great awareness in the boat and is very comortable, driving at
speed and in all conditions. We have put in a considerable amount
o time in the boat just to get used to each other and I am already
convinced that we will make a strong partnership.
MOHAMMED AL MARRI BACK IN THE DRIVING SEAT
Ater stepping back rom competitive (Class 1) racing at the end o 2006, Mohammed Al Marri
is back in the drivers seat in Montenegro, replacing the injured Ari Sai Al Zaeen in Victory 1 to
partner Nadir Bin Hendi. Mohammed made his Class 1 debut in 2000, nishing runner-up in the
title race, going on to win the World Championship the ollowing year with Saeed Al Tayer. He has
competed in 55 Grands Prix, winning nine, nishing on the podium a urther 26 times and in 2005
won the Class 1 Middle East Championship.
WINDMARE RACINGS BUDVA DEBUT
ome Brardas American based Windmare Racing is a second outt to
ke its Class 1 debut at the Hypo Group Montenegrin Grand Prix this
ekend. Brarda, who made his racing debut in Europe in the eighties
ore moving to the USA to compete in Superboats, and the Super
series, conrmed that the team will run a Tencara hull powered by
rcury-Class 1, 9litre, V8 power-plants.
MOSCOW TO HOST RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
The rst Class 1 Grand P rix to be held in Russias capital City, heralds the return to racing o t he
Worlds leading powerboat series to Russian waters or the rst time in nine years. This is a
signicant event or the championship and we are delighted to have reached this a greement with
Mr Anton Dolotin, President o Moscows Royal Yacht Club and to be allowed to run our race inside
Russias capital City, the largest City in Europe., said IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala.
The staging o Moscows historic rst Class 1 Powerboat Grand Prix on Sunday, 6 July, round 3
o the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, will take place on the Khimki Reservoir, one o
eight articial lakes orming part o the Moscow Canal system which was built in 1937, linking the
Moscow and Volga Rivers, but the only lake that lies within Moscows city limits.
