STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
EXAMINATION DEPARTMENT (2018-19)
Examination department has to conduct exams for 6 areas as follows:
(i) Class XII
(ii) Class XI
(iii)Class X
(iv) Class IX
(v) Classes VI-VIII
(vi) Class V
Area -1 (Class XII)
Unit Test-1(M.M 25) in July
Unit Test-2(M.M 25) in Aug
Term-1 (M.M 100) in September
Term-2 (M.M 100) in December
Pre-Board (M.M 100) in January
Area-2 (Class XI)
Unit Test-1 (M.M 25) in August
Term-1 (M.M 100) in September
Unit Test-2(M.M 25) in December
RETEST OF ABSENTEES IN UNIT TEST in January only
Final Examinations (M.M 100) In February
Promotion Criteria:
1. The examination for class XI would be conducted in theory as well as in
practical/project, depending upon the nature of subject(s).
2. In order to be declared as having passed the examination, the candidate shall
obtain 33% and above in all five subjects. In case of subjects involving
practicals/project work, a candidate must obtain 33% marks in theory and

33% marks in practicals/project work separately in addition to 33% marks
in aggregate in order to qualify in that subject.
4. A candidate failing in one of the five subjects of the examination in Class XI
shall be placed in Compartment in that subject and shall thus be eligible for one
retest for not more than one subject.
5. In case the student fails to secure 33% in more than one subject (in theory
and practical/project work separately), he/she is not eligible for retest and shall
not be promoted to Class XII.
6. It is mandatory for students to appear in session ending examination (Final
Examination)to be eligible to be considered for the promotion to Class XII.
7. It is mandatory for students to pass in session ending examination (Final
Examination) i.e 33% and above in all five subjects.( 33% marks in theory
and 33% marks in practical / project work separately)
8. No improvement tests will be given in any examination.
9. No re-exam shall be conducted except on genuine grounds including
medical.
10. The final examination paper will not be shown to the students. However,
parents may submit an application to see the paper within 5 days of
declaration of result.
11. A student will be declared ‘Passed and Promoted’ to the next class if
he/she meets the pass criteria in all subjects through the academic session. A
student will be declared ‘Promoted’ if he appears for and clears the retest in a
given subject.
Area 3 (Class X)
Periodic Test-1 (M.M 50) in July to be scaled down to 10
Periodic Test-2 (M.M 80) in September to be scaled down to 10
Periodic Test-3 (M.M 80) in December to be scaled down to 10
Practice Exam (M.M 80) in January
Subject Enrichment (5 marks) & Notebook Submission (5 Marks) at session end
The school is required to submit 20 marks internal assessment to the board. The
components to be considered are as follows:
(i) The average of the best of 2 of the 3 periodic tests is to be considered and
then scaled down to 10 marks

(ii) Notebook Submission (based on regularity, assignment completion,
neatness and upkeep of notebook) 5 marks
(iii) Subject Enrichment Activity (Speaking and Listening skills in language
subjects, Practical lab work in Science, Maths Lab practical in Mathematics,
Map work and Project work in Social Science) 5 marks
Area-4 (Class IX)
Periodic Test-1 (M.M 50) in July to be scaled down to 10
Periodic Test-2(Mid term) (M.M 80) in September to be scaled down to
10
Periodic Test-3 (M.M 80) in December to be scaled down to 10
Notebook submission (5 marks) + Subject Enrichment Activity (5 marks)
at session end
Final Exam (M.M 80) in Feb/March
Promotion Criteria:
1. In order to be declared as having passed the examination, the candidate shall
obtain 33% and above in all five subjects. (20 marks (Internal Assessment) +
80 marks (Final Exam))
2. A candidate failing in two of the five subjects of the examination in Class IX
shall be placed in Compartment in those subjects and shall thus be eligible for
one retest for not more than two subjects.
3. In case the student fails to secure 33% in more than two subjects, he/she is
not eligible for retest and shall not be promoted to Class X.

9. The student will also be assessed for discipline where grades will be awarded.
Area -5 (Class VI-VIII)
Term-1 Periodic Test-1 (M.M 20) In July to be scaled down to 10

Term-2

Changed CBSE Class 9 Assessment Scheme
Shutting down the Dual Assessment Scheme, CBSE has brought a significant change in the
Assessment Scheme to be followed in Class 9 current academic session, i.e., 2017-2018
onwards. The assessment, examination and report card patterns for class 9 students will be
similar to that of class 10 Board students.
According to which the CBSE Class 9 report card will have scores of a single yearly term
comprising a periodic test, notebook, subject enrichment and annual examination. The co-
scholastic grading will be on a five-point grading scale.
CBSE Class 9 Exam Pattern
Find below the details of CBSE Class 10 New Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme:
1. 80 Marks Annual Examination:

Schools will conduct Class-IX Examination for 80 marks in each subject covering 100% syllabus of the subject of Class-IX only.
Student has to secure 33% marks out of 80 marks in each subject.
Marks and Grades both will be awarded for Individual subjects.
9-point grading will be same as followed by the Board in Class XII.
2. 20 Marks Internal Assessment:
Student has to secure 33% marks out of overall 20 marks earmarked in each subject. Internal
assessment consists of
(i) Periodic Test:
Three Periodic Written Tests are to be conducted in each subject in an Academic Year.
Each periodic test will carry 10 marks.
Average of the best two tests to be taken for final marks submission.
Three Periodic Tests will help student prepare for the Annual Board Examination and help teachers to keep a track of the students’ learning thoughout the year.
(ii) Notebook Submission
This is to give weightage to student’s regularity, assignment completion, neatness & upkeep of notebook.
Notebook submission will hold 5 marks for Periodic Test.
It aims at inculcating the qualities of regularity, punctuality and neatness among the students.
(iii) Subject Enrichment Activity
Subject Enrichment Activity will also add 5 marks to Periodic Test.
It covers
(a) Speaking and listening skills in Language Subjects
(b) Practical lab work in Science.
(c) Math lab practical in Mathematics.
(d) Map work and project work in Social Science
These are the subject specific activities which will help in better understanding of the subject and skill development.

The overall assessment pattern for CBSE Class 9 can be summed up as below:
(i) Annual Examination for whole syllabus of the year : 80 marks
(ii) Internal Assessment: 20 marks
Periodic written tests: 10 marks
Notebook submission: 5 marks
Subject enrichment activity: 5 marks
Co-scholastic activities:
They will be graded on a five-point scale (A-E) but there will be no descriptive indicators.
