advanced distance learning in higher education via online instruction, research or the
development of distance learning processes that impact Latino students in higher
education. March 5, 2011.
Most Valuable Advisor: In recognition of dedication, time and guidance offered to the
membership of Latinas Unidas; Latinas Unidas is a University Support Group dedicated
to empowering membership through identification with indigenous ancestral roots and
participation in cultural awareness activities and events. The organization encourages
and supports member’s educational goals, aspirations and holistic educational
experiences as college students by providing a sisterhood of friendship. There is an
emphasis on spiritual and emotional support by creating solidarity through an
exploration and awareness of pertinent issues impacting the lives of Latinas as well as

MSW students, I created and supervised a directed study play therapy course, in which
the student conducted qualitative research with certified play therapists and completed
a play therapy practicum, and presented her findings to MSW students, She used the
experience as a foundation to write a book on youth empowerment..
SOWK 4360: Directed Studies in Social Work- Policy Practice-MSW- together with one
of our MSW students, I created and supervised a directed study specialized to gain a
richer experience of the campus based policy course. Student worked with legislative
officials, coordinated and assisted in the annual student day at the legislature,
presented various policy proposals to legislative officials.

implementation of the Prior Learning Assessment “course” including working closely

June 2013. Duties Include: responsible for coordinating activities of the MSW on-
campus and online program; Customary faculty duties such as teaching, research, and
service and includes participation in departmental, university, community, and
professional committees and related activities; Provide leadership for distance
education initiatives by supporting faculty who teach at a distance, assist faculty in
course delivery and instructional design; and work collaboratively with the Instructional
Technology Department, the School, College, and University; Chair the MSW
Leadership Committee and support the other committees as requested. Oversee
graduate recruitment activities, admissions, student support; participate in graduation
and hooding ceremonies; Oversee MSW curriculum changes and work closely with
university to maintain compliance with Board of Regents standards; Work closely with
Graduate College in software of Banner, Cognos, and Degree Works. Ensure
compliance with CSWE accreditation standards. Manage budget, plan development of
distance courses, recruit and seek new faculty to support growth of School.
Coordinator of the MSW Distance Education Program Duties include: provide
leadership for distance education initiatives by supporting faculty who teach at a
distance, assist faculty in course delivery and instructional design; and work
collaboratively with the Instructional Technology Department, the School, College, and
University. Submitted documentation for Rural Distance Education site visit, met with
site visitor to discuss the program, the details of its implementation, sustainability, and
highlights; Provided consultation to several universities planning or starting an online
social work program by providing support in person, over the phone, and scheduled site
visits. Presented best practices of an online social work program. July 2007- 2013.

Human Services recognized the MSW online program in the Child Welfare
Information Gateway, Children’s Bureau Express, “Online Degree Program
Helps Rural Social Workers,” September 2008.
Senator Judith Zaffirini recognized the Rural Distance Education Program at
the Summer Commencement, August 2008.
Under the direction of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Debbie
Thorne, Texas State engaged in a self-study of online courses and programs
of the University. The self-study, the Sloan-C Quality Scorecard for the
Administration of Online Programs, measured quality of online courses and
programs, and helped to support program improvement and strategic planning.
The Quality Scorecard may also be used to demonstrate to the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Texas State’s accrediting body, the
elements of quality within our online courses and programs. Each component of
the study was divided into several categories. I collected data regarding the
quality of faculty support for online teaching then summarized the findings on
several reports according to the specific area researched. November 2012.
Texas State University website recognized the School of Social Work on-line
program; “School of Social Work Graduates first on-line Masters
Candidates” (Other graduating classes were hybrid), August 2008.
Interviewed and quoted in Campus Technology Magazine; featured in an
article that included my quotes about the technology and the University, Motivate!
June 2008.
Recognized several years in a row by the Dean of the Graduate College for
setting a University record for graduate enrollment growth attributed to the
online MSW program (beginning in Fall 2008).
