Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is a central university. It was established in 1920.
University would be celebrating its centenary in a few years from now and
has emerged as a top ranking educational institute in the country. It is
ranked 12th overall for 2018 in the NIRF University rankings. The guiding
philosophy, legacy, and endeavor have led it to establish strong academic
relationships with Universities and institutes all over the world. While the
University has come a long way since its inception, it has to keep pace with
the changing needs and expectations of the society. It has successfully
performed the multiple roles of creating new knowledge, acquiring new
capabilities and producing an intelligent human resource pool for the
promotion of economic growth, cultural development, social cohesion,equity and justice.
Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities
Established in 1996, as one among the departments of the Faculty of
Engineering and Technology, this department participates in B. Tech and M.
Tech. programs offered by the Faculty. In addition, the department offers a two
year M. Sc. Electronic program. There are 13 well qualified and experienced
faculty members whose services are available to the department. Faculty
members of the department have published numerous research papers,
research articles and books with reputed international publishers. The
Department has been actively involved in research and development based on
different domains of Applied Sciences and Humanities. The faculty members of
the department has successfully completed many research projects in various
fields of science and technology funded by different funding agencies. A
number of research projects are going on in the department and expected to
deliver significant impact. Solar photovoltaics and energy efficient lighting and
displays are some of the focus areas of the department. Major emphasis are
being given on the organic materials based energy systems in order to march
towards sustainability. Department has well equipped teaching and research
laboratories for hands-on training of the students. The department is also
involved in training and placement of its students in coordination with the
Training and Placement Office of the university.
M.Tech. Energy Sciences
Our energy systems are rapidly evolving. There are big challenges
ahead of us, including mitigating climate change, securing our long-
term energy supply, and providing access to sustainable energy for
everyone. This Master’s Programme in Energy Science offers an
interdisciplinary approach for anyone prepared to tackle these
challenges.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
This programme is aimed at students with a background in science
or engineering who want to contribute to the transition towards
sustainable energy systems. Analyzing energy systems requires a
thorough knowledge of the fundamental scientific and technological
principles of the discipline. This knowledge helps to understand
how the characteristics of individual technologies can influence
their performance, as well as the impact of market and policy
context on energy systems. This is why both energy economics
and policy studies have also been given due weightage in the
curriculum of this program.
CAREER PROSPECTIVE
Since India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world,
After successful completion of the degree, the students may find
positions in public and private sector organization involved in
energy analysis, production and distribution. The pass-out may
also join research positions in various research organizations in
India and abroad. They may also pursue their doctoral studies in
different national and international universities and academic
institutions.

Program Details:
• Program Name: Master of Technology (M. Tech.) Energy Sciences
• Nature: Regular, Self Financed
• Course Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters)
• Course Fee: INR 27,500/- per semester
• Eligibility: M.Sc. in Physics/ Applied Physics/ Electronics/ Chemistry/ Applied
Chemistry/ Nanoscience/ Material Science/ Energy Studies/ Energy Tech with at least
55% marks or equivalent CGPA or B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical / Electronics/Electrical/
Chemical/ Petrochemical/ Materials Science/ Nanoscience/ Nanotechnology/ Energy
Studies/ Energy Science/ Energy Tech with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
• Admission Procedure: The applicants has to appear in entrance test of 02 hours
duration scheduled on 05 August 2018. Time of the test will be announced later on.
The admission will be given strictly as per merit following JMI’s reservation rules given
in Prospectus 2018-19.
