In this lesson we will answer the question:
How do you identify, describe, analyze, compare, and classify triangles and quadrilaterals by their properties?
Materials needed:
You will need to print out the shapes templates that goes with this lesson. You will need to cut out the shapes carefully so you can move them into groups to match the criteria you create.
Vocabulary ReviewEquilateral triangle – All sides are equal.Isosceles triangle – Two sides are the same length.Scalene triangle – No sides are the same length.Right triangle – One angle is a right angle(90º).

Rhombus – a parallelogram with all sides the same length.Square – A rectangle with all sides the same length. A square can also be called a rhombus.Generalization – A generalization can be made based on rules.

In Level 4 you explored the properties of two-dimensionalfigures. You learned right triangles as a category, and how to identify right triangles.

Answer: A rhombus does not always have 4-90º angles as a square must always have. A rhombus has 2 acute and 2 obtuse angles.

A parallelogram has both opposite sides at equal distance….they are parallel. All 4 angles measure 90º, as does a rectangle. As such, the rectangle shares the properties for a parallelogram.
