and the government’s plans to help the industry increasethe supply of new homes.
The HBF Technical ConferenceThe annual HBF TechnicalConference looks at the keyregulatory changes affecting the UKhousebuilding industry. In 2016, BobLedsome, head of buildingregulations and standards divisionat DCLG, reminded the audience
that energy standards were still under review followingthe shelving of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Therewas also an update from NHBC following ten years of theNHBC foundation. The conference is a must for all keytechnical personnel from housebuilding companies.
The HBF Planning ConferenceThe annual HBF PlanningConference held in the earlyautumn focuses on the currentissues affecting this crucial area ofthe UK housebuilding industry. In2016, Steve Quartermain, chiefplanner at DCLG, stressed the
government was not “backing away” from itscommitment to housing following the EU referendum.The Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill alsoraised interesting debate, particularly with regard to therole of communities in the plan making process.
The annual HBF members-onlyGolf Day has become a ‘mustattend’ event in the HBF socialcalendar. In 2016, 55 teams of fourfought it out at Woburn GC tobecome the HBF Golf Daychampions. Held in the summer ata first class venue, this is an
established event that always sells out very quickly.

HBF Future Talent ConferenceA residential event held in thesummer, which in 2016 discussedthe aim of the new Home BuildingSkills Partnership, whilstacknowledging there is much moreto do to attract new talent to theindustry. The conference also

housebuilder also organises the HBF social andnetworking events, including the annual AGM Lunch, aunique opportunity for the industry’s leaders to meetinformally and discuss the current issues affecting theirbusiness. Held in the spring, the lunch follows the HBFAGM and Open Council meeting for HBF members.

The HBF Future Talent Conference 2016 (previously the HBF Graduate Conference) is the HBF’s main event each year to bring together graduates and other professionals entering the home building industry. This residential event is being held at the East Midland Conference Centre (EMCC), part of the Nottingham University Campus and begins on the 6 July with a networking buffet and evening speaker (speaker tbc) from 7pm. As part of the package, delegates will then reside in the brand new Orchard Hotel, adjacent to the EMCC, before starting the next day’s conference back at the EMCC, rested and ready to face the day.
The conference begins with a plenary session of keynote industry speakers, before delegates are assembled into four smaller groups and rotated around four interactive workshops for the remainder of the day.
At what will be an enjoyable and rewarding event, delegates will also be able to network and share their experiences with like-minded peers from within the industry.
