of diagnostics, concentrating on medical applica tions. Areas such as regenerative medi cine, molecular bioengineering, systems bio logy, as well as the treatment of cancer and diabetes characterise the type of research which is being carried out in Dresden. The potential of highly qualified specialists, a research sector strongly focussed on practical applications, as well as internationally oriented networks all make for a highly advantageous exchange between business and science.
Dresdenis one of Germany’s strongest economic
hubs. This is where innovations in the fields of life sciences, microelectronics, ICT and new ma terials are tapping into the markets of the future. Dresden, in conjunction with the adjoining towns of Radeberg and Radebeul, and on the basis of extensive synergies, offers exceptional conditions for the location of biotech nology and medical technology companies. Areas such as smart health and smart home are gaining noticeably in importance. Germany’s largest telemedicine project “CCS Telehealth Ostsachsen” has its roots here.
Digital smart lab systems for diagnostics and analyses are indispensable for labora to ry analyses in medical science and the life scien ces. Dresden’s biotechnology and medical techno logy companies are very strong in the area

In 2016, biosaxony set up the Section Medi cal Technology. Combining biotechnology with medical technology is intended to enable new areas of innovation to be identified, network actors from different fields, and hence lastingly strengthen the regional economic struc ture of both sectors. In 2016, biosaxony was the host bioregion of the German Biotech Conference in Leipzig. In addition, in 2016, the associa tion for the promotion of health care (VFG) and biosaxony sealed the already close cooperation with a cooperation agreement to support Saxon companies to develop products for the health market. biosaxony is a member of the gocluster program and has been awarded the Bronze Label of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative.
