• Providers – TMHP September 2007 manual listing primary care case management providers.
• Unclear if list of SCHIP providers is available at this time.
• Low income Medicaid = TANF population (“moms and kids”)
Data Sources
• Manual lists only family practice, internal medicine, OB/GYN, and pediatrics (e.g. no surgeons, specialists, etc.)
• The majority of Texas Health Steps providers seem to be either family practice or pediatrics
• Separate breakdown by above type may be shaky, since manual lists some providers under two categories (I counted them where I saw them first). However, that could be mapped as you wish.
• Providers listed at more than one address are counted partially for each one (e.g. two addresses, .5 at each one)
Medicaid providers
• The following map shows the locations of places where three or more Medicaid providers are currently accepting new patients
• Top two addresses are 1504 Taub Loop (Ben Taub) and 6410 Fannin (UT Professional Building, which has many clinics)
Top Medicaid providers
• Some of the areas in town with the highest rates of Medicaid enrollment have no providers accepting Medicaid (e.g. south edge of Lake Houston).
• The Medicaid and SCHIP frequency maps look very much like the frequency map for primary care related ED visits (from last year’s ED study), although they are not completely identical.
Personal thoughts
