A critically acclaimed album artwork for Quidam’s lush 1DVD + 2CD audio-
visual set documenting a truly outstanding performance of the band’s already
well established material. In ties with the title taken from Quidam’s 2007 studio
effort, the artwork itself is also a visual sequel to the previous album cover
- the rather unhappy predicament of its trapped mysterious figures. Here,
having found their strength in unity, they finally manage to break away. This is
their small revolution. The storming of their own personal Bastille, so to speak.

Quidam’s 2007 album speaks of different kinds of loneliness and
estrangement, about being ‘alone together’ in various sorts of relationships.
Quidam is also a Latin word for “someone” - perhaps a stranger to
you and me, an everyman. And so, here they are, high above, very
close to one another and yet completely abandoned. Unable to move,
imprisoned by their misery and quietly contemplating the crumbling world
within them. The whole package has been enthusiastically received by
audiences and critics in Europe, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Japan.

The ideas and themes underlying the Darkest Dreaming project evolved into
a much more structured and coherent visual narrative on memory and loss.
Told through a series of over 30 images, the narrative became my final Masters
Degree work. I was extremely happy to find out that the band Quidam would like
to give it a new lease of life after my graduation exhibition and project it during
their live performances. Should you wish to watch the full narrative (both non-
edited and live versions) as featured on their “Strong Together” DVD, please see:

This particular piece - a front cover illustration for the book which would
offer insight into some of the most groundbreaking records in the history
of Polish rock, began with a very clear intention: To create an image which
the Polish audience would not only recognize instantly as an amalgam
of motifs taken from classic album imagery (see the three original album
covers on the next page), but also one which would become a striking
image in its own right. An iconic cover out of iconic covers, no less!

Contrary to what the above image suggests here, my PG Diploma
project completed back in 2007 was not really that much of struggle. I
recall it being quite an exciting challenge with the brief focused around
visual exploration of themes of loss, grief and introspection. A very
early elaboration on motifs that would run through my final work while
studying at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (a graphic narrative
entitled “Shards”). The whole series of these photographic collages was
exhibited later that year at the Curzon Street Gallery in Birmingham, UK.

With the identity for ICEGOV (International Conference on Theory and
Practice of Electronic Governance) it was crucial that this global event
be always graphically linked with the country hosting it. The design had
to be allowed to evolve, yet retain the uniformity of the series. With that
in mind, ICEGOV identity relies purely on the fixed logotype, layouts and
typography. The colour scheme and central motif are allowed to change
on condition that the set of red connecting circles present in previous
editions (a symbol of unity of specialists coming together into the rapidly
developing field of electronic governance) is woven into the design. The
2009 edition sports lively, contrasting Colombian colours with the circles
focused both on the country and the globe, spanning it with network of ideas.

Similarly to previous ICEGOV edition, the 2010 International Conference
on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance in Beijing, China again
taps into the cultural pool of its host-country. The typically Chinese motif
of blossoming branches has been adopted here not only to achieve that
aim but also convey associations so close to ICEGOV foundations: growth,
development, projects and ideas coming to life and evolving into full blossoms,
connections and networks, reaching out and, last but not least, branches of
expertise stemming from this highly acclaimed international sharing platform.

One of the principles of electronic governance is avoiding over-reliance
on information technology within governments while promoting simplicity,
openness and transparency in interaction between citizens and decision-
makers. The logotype for the Center for Electronic Governance needed
to reflect that fact. Hence the very simple and direct approach of
positioning two letterforms in complementary fashion to emphasize unity
and balance. Their simplified form, on the other hand, conveys clean,
undisguised and yet not overly technological look. This aesthetic has
been carried over onto the Center’s portal and its numerous deliverables.

E-Business, E-Services, E-Society. The three “E”s of the modern web-enabled
world coming together for a three day IFIP conference in Buenos Aires,
Argentina. The three “E”s and yet not a single one can be explored outside
the context of the other two. The links and ties and connections between them
are so strong that they practically become one. The accepted logo ties together
the conferences acronym equally strongly. The unused idea (in grey) pushes
the concept a little further etching the three “E”s into an electronic circuit board.

Jornadas Argentinas De Servicios Electronicos was an event taking place
simultaneously with the I3E conference and, being added to the event not
long before the conference itself, it was in quick need of a promotional
poster and a giveaway CD design. JASE did not have any identity to
base the design on but the organizers requested something modest and
not too formulaic. Consequently, I ventured slightly off the cold, technical
territory and into the rather warm, slightly organic tone of the poster, much
in the spirit of what I imagine Argentinian “jornadas” (or days) must feel
like in springtime with all the fresh electronic services budding all around.

A Flash-navigation-driven website intended to popularize David Sylvian’s
work and yet so much more than just biography, reviews and lyrics!
From the beginning the site was meant to carry across the unmistakable
atmosphere of the artist’s musical work, capture its essence and
translate it into visual experience. Very much a website equivalent of
what a successful album artwork is often to the music hidden within.

Fani Filmu Polskiego (Polish Cinema Fans) has been structurally created
around the popular phpBB forum software, but tailored in the process to
suit its needs (both in terms of functionality and design) and move away
as further as possible from the standardized templates commonly offered
by the phpBB platform. Design-wise simplicity was the key. Along with
the desire to allude to the rich cinematic tradition by utilizing traditional
washed-out colours of classic Polish cinema posters, I also felt the
need to retain a modern look which would appeal to Polish cinema
buffs of any age. The result is, hopefully, a successful mixture of both.
