Happy New Year!
I don’t know about you, but I will be happy to see 2021! 2020 has been a real roller coaster ride for all of us. We are still closed, but I think we will start to see some changes in the near future. But, as I would say to all of you, you need to continue to stay safe, practice social distancing, wear a mask, and sanitize. We are all in this to-gether. We will let you all know when we plan to reopen. But for now, we have options available for you to visit with us. First, one of our programs, allows us to offer ZOOM meetings. This is where we would send you an email with a link that you would connect to via your computer, tablet, or telephone. We would then be able to see your beautiful or handsome faces again. Have a conversation, and lots of laughter.( The Best medicine for all of us currently). You will say to us, I don’t have a tablet or a computer. We would respond and say, we can help. We have a program that is called Illinois Cares Connection. This program has certain criteria that must be met for you to be deemed eligible to receive a tablet. I would ask that you contact Celia at the Sr. Center 815-879-3981. She would love to help you. I realize that January and February are to be cold winter months. We will be coordinating with Perry Memorial Hospital ZOOM meetings. These are great. I hope that you will participate. Meals will continue to be delivered to you. But, with the winter weather, we ask that you be patient with our de-livery drivers. We will get your meals to you. Ellen just finished Medicare D open enrollment. I wanted to share with you all that over the course of the period beginning October 15 running thru December 7th, she save seniors $194,952.33. This is just phenomenal! Way to go! Ellen is still available to help you with all of your information and Assistance questions. Just give her a ring. Appointments are necessary and all appointments are via the telephone. Safety first. I know that some of you are anxiously awaiting the answer to ARE YOU DOING TAXES THIS YEAR? The an-swer is I DON’T KNOW YET! As soon as we hear from AARP, we will let you all know. I realize that this is a needed service, but just like all of our services, there will be some changes, and I have not yet heard what they will be. Please stay tune. We continue to provide our Monday & Wednesday Food bank. Pleas share with your friends and family. We are here to help. As we move into the new year, just know that our hearts are missing you and we can’t wait for you to get back in here and make some noise. We want to play BINGO, CARDS, EXERCISE, and just have plain ol’ CONVERSA-TION again. I have not been able to sing my favorite song…….O CHRISTMAS TREE…. I have been practicing, so you all need to get prepared to hear it more and more…… God bless you all and please stay safe, social distance, and wear your mask! We love you and miss you ALL! Denise

The Benefits of Joining a Senior Center
The national institute of Senior Centers defines a senior center as a place where “older adults
come together for services and activities that reflect their experience skills, respond to their
diverse needs and interests, support to their diverse needs and interests, enhance their dignity,
support their independence, and encourage their involvement in and with the center and the
community”
Not only do senior centers offer helpful resources to adults, they serve the entire community
with information on aging, support for family caregivers, and developments of innovative
approaches to approaching aging issues.
While senior centers typically provide nutrition, recreation, social and educational services, and
comprehensive information and referrals, many centers are adding new programs such as
fitness activities and internet training to meet the needs and interests of the new generation of
seniors, Source: www.ncoa.org
