Sottsass (Siyouni) captured the
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1,
2400m) in front of a nearly deserted
Longchamp yesterday as Enable
(Nathaniel) failed in her bid for an historic third
victory, finishing sixth under Frankie Dettori.
In what was a messy running of Europe's
most prestigious race under conditions made
all the more peculiar by Covid-19 restrictions,
Persian King (Kingman) set only a modest pace
on the lead as he tried to make his stamina stretch
while runners bumped and rolled into each other
on the sapping ground in the home straight, with
Enable interfered with among others.
The stewards called an inquiry into the
result after the runners passed the post, but the
finishing positions remained unchanged.
However, Sottsass (4 c ex Starlet’s Sister by
Galileo), who finished third behind Waldgeist
(Galileo) and Enable in last year's Arc, was
superb as he picked up and surged to the lead
in the final furlong and a half to take the prize
by a neck from the fast-finishing In Swoop
(Adlerflug) . Continued on page 3>>

Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget was
winning the Arc for the first time and said: "We've worked all year for
this. Our entire aim for 2020 was this and it's not been easy with the
changes to the calendar.
"We've never been able to do quite what we wanted with the horse.
But these last few days I've really felt he was in top form."
Enable, so brilliant in her three previous Arc runs, was blunted by
the underfoot conditions as well as the interference and was never in a
position to make a telling challenge.
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Enable's owner Khalid
Abdullah said: "She just wasn't able to go on the ground, really and
truly. She's had a good position, Frankie's been happy with her but she
just couldn't pick up like we'd normally expect her to.
"We'll see how she is when she gets back and talk to John (Gosden,
trainer) and Prince Khalid and make a plan. There will be no decisions
(on retirement) at this stage."
With Aidan O'Brien forced to withdraw his Arc runners over
concerns about contaminated feed, the pacemaking duties were up
for grabs and it was Pierre-Charles Boudot who took the bull by the
horns on Prix du Moulin (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Persian King, who was
stepping up considerably in trip.
Enable sat poised in about fifth place with Sottsass positioned
a place in front of her and towards the inside, where jockey Cristian
Demuro could make use of the strip of fresh ground opened up for
Sunday.
As the false rail disappeared, Sottsass made his move to chase down
Persian King with Enable and Stradivarius (Sea The Stars) prominent on
the outside. As the frontrunner drifted to his right, Sottsass moved left
causing interference together with Gold Trip (Outstrip), who was edging
right from the far outside of the field.
Despite the coming together, those impacted were simply outclassed by
Sottsass as he surged clear in the colours of Peter Brant's White Birch Farm.
A €340,000 purchase at Arqana in August 2017, Sottsass was winning
for the sixth time in a 12-race career which has also yielded victories in
last season’s Prix du Jockey Club (Gr 1, 2100m) and the Prix Ganay (Gr 1,
2100m) earlier this year.
Sottsass is the third foal out of the Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare
Starlet’s Sister. His half-sister Sistercharlie (Myboycharlie) is a Grade 1
winner in the US, while Starlet’s Sister herself is a sister to French Group 3
winner Leo’s Starlet.
Rouget was uncertain what the future may hold for Sottsass, with a 50
per cent share in the Siyouni colt reportedly sold to the Coolmore partners
in January.
"I don't know what is next," he said. "The owners will discuss between
them. I would like to see him make a good stallion as he's such a good-
looking horse."

Aidan O'Brien has hinted at the huge financial and emotional cost
of being forced to scratch all his runners from yesterday's Prix
de l'Arc de Triomphe card at Longchamp due to contaminated
feed.
But the trainer revealed that he hoped to be free to have runners again as
early as this Wednesday in Ireland.
O'Brien and his sons Joseph and Donnacha withdrew their runners from
all meetings they were entered to run at yesterday after urine samples sent to
a French lab returned positive for the prohibited substance Zilpaterol.
It followed news that Gain Equine Nutrition had advised its customers to
stop using their feed products after batches had become contaminated with
Zilpaterol, which is unlicensed in Europe but is used in the US and elsewhere
to promote weight gain, mainly in cattle.
Aidan O'Brien had been due to have four runners in the Arc alone,
including the Epsom Derby (Gr 1, 1m 4f) winner Serpentine (Galileo) who
was supplemented for €72,000 (approx. AUD$117,500), and he expressed his
sympathy for the Coolmore axis that bankrolls the Ballydoyle operation.
"I feel sorry for the lads," he said on Luck On Sunday. "They put so much
in and the cost is incredible.
"Everyone's working so hard to try to breed the horses, to sell the horses,
to train them, to race them, They put in so much to get the horses to this stage,
they try and make it happen, I feel so sorry for them. I hope we're all able to
work it out.
"This morning it is very quiet here."
Gain Equine Nutrition tweeted their sympathy for those affected and
said: "The team at Gain Equine Nutrition are hugely disappointed to learn
that some of our customers have withdrawn their horses from important
equine events this weekend, including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
"We are continuing to work closely with all appropriate agencies, including
the Irish Department of Agriculture, to fully investigate the source, nature and
extent of this contamination.
"We are also in close contact with horse racing regulatory bodies. We will
provide a more detailed update once further information is available."
Looking ahead, O'Brien has entries in Ireland this week and many top
two-year-olds entered in the Fillies' Mile (Gr 1, 1m) at Newmarket on Friday
and Dewhurst Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) there on Saturday.
"I suppose the best case scenario is we would have to have a two or three-
day withdrawal stage and that maybe we could be back racing on Wednesday or
Thursday," he said.
"We may have runners on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Ireland
and hopefully runners over the weekend. We would have to do blood and
urine samples from the horse probably starting tomorrow and do them every
day all the way up to the weekend.
"But everyone in Ireland and England has to see are they going to do the
tests, and if they do, how low the bar is going to be? There's an awful lot of
questions that have to be answered. We're going to start testing on Monday
and we'll do it every day, probably using the French labs until there are some
labs in England or Ireland that we can use."

Tagaloa the forgotten Guineas runnerNatalie Young is delighted with last season’s
Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner
Tagaloa (Lord Kanaloa) as the three-year-old
prepares to step up in trip in the Caulfield
Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on Saturday. Tagaloa
has suffered four consecutive defeats since his
sole Group 1 success in February, but Young is
still keen on his chances. “I’m really happy, he
did a nice piece of work on Saturday and Craig
(Williams, jockey) is coming on Tuesday to
have a sit on him, have a gallop and hopefully
put the final touches on him,” Young, who
trains in partnership with Trent Busuttin, told
Racing.com. “I’m rapt with the way he’s come
through that last run.” Tagaloa was last seen
finishing sixth in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes
(Gr 1, 1400m) and finished only one and three
quarter lengths behind winner Behemoth
(All Too Hard). “I keep watching the replay,”
Young said of Tagaloa’s Rupert Clarke start.
“He wasn’t far off them and through the line
he was pretty good. Don’t forget about him
yet.”
The Bopper set for city debutThe Bopper (Nicconi) will make his city debut
today when he lines up in a Benchmark 72
Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury. The gelding
is a well-fancied favourite for the race after
winning both his raceday appearances last
season, although his trainer Kris Lees is hesitant
to heap praise on the three-year-old. “He’s won
well in his two races but they were questionable
form races to be honest,’’ Lees told Racing NSW.
“He’s a nice horse, you can’t do much more
than what he’s done, but it’s certainly a good
test for him taking on older horses at city level.
Canterbury probably suits now that he has
drawn soft, I think it is a nice option. He will
probably only have a light spring, we will see
the best of him in the autumn.”
Zahra lauds Elleegant ahead of CupsMark Zahra has heaped praise on star mare
Verry Elleegant (Zed) after she landed another
Group 1 victory in the Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1,
2000m) on Saturday and Zahra is excited about
the prospect of riding her in the Caulfield (Gr
1, 2400m) and Melbourne Cups (Gr 1, 3200m).
“What she did yesterday just proves that you
wouldn’t want to be on any other horses
going into these types of races at this time
of the year,” Zahra told Racing.com. “I had
something underneath me the whole way, I
was just creeping the whole way and I thought
I was getting on top of the other runners.” Verry
Elleegant, who will carry only 55 kilograms for
the Caulfield Cup, has been installed as the $7
favourite and Zahra will follow a strict diet in
the coming days. “No cheat days for me now.
Normally on a Saturday night or Sunday I can
have a bit of a blow out, but this time of year
I just keep a very strict diet. Another couple
weeks of a strict diet and I’ll be fine.”
Pike booked for Port GuillaumeWilliam Pike has been booked to ride French
Group 2 winner Port Guillaume (Le Havre) in
the Caulfield Cup on October 17. The northern
hemisphere-bred colt will carry 52.5 kilograms
for the race, with the light weight assisting
the 34-year-old to gain his first ride in the $5
million showpiece. Port Guillaume will make
his Australian debut for new trainers Tom
Dabernig and Ben Hayes after a career spent
in France, with the standout success being a
three-length victory in the Prix Hocquart (Gr 2,
2500m) earlier this year. Port Guillaume is a $15
chance with Sportsbet to win the Caulfield Cup.
Williams takes Master Of Wine mountChris Williams has picked up the ride on
Master Of Wine (Maxios) in the Caulfield
Cup. The six-year-old gelding will carry 53.5
kilograms on October 17 and sits 18th in the
order. Master Of Wine, who took out the Sky
High Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) last season, finished
fifth in the Turnbull Stakes on Saturday, only
three quarters of a length behind the winner
Verry Elleegant. Meanwhile Aktau (Teofilo),
who finished last of 15 in the Turnbull, could
be subject to a gear change in the Caulfield Cup
after pulling hard on Saturday.
Pike takes blame for Schabau defeatWilliam Pike left Flemington disappointed on
Saturday and wishes he went for home earlier
on Schabau (Pastorius), having felt his mount
had plenty left to give when finishing fourth
in the Bart Cummings (Gr 3, 2500m). Persan
(Pierro) took the race, but more importantly
the golden ticket to next month’s Melbourne
Cup, with Schabau one and half lengths back.
“We were moving into the race nicely and I
was still confident in the run that we were a
chance,” Pike told Racing.com. “With the way
he kept coming late and how he felt through
the line, maybe if I had wound him up a little
earlier we could have been right in the finish.
It’s frustrating that he hasn’t been able to win
one of these races because he’s feels really
good.”

Scope provides excuse for Nature Strip
Nature Strip’s (Nicconi) disappointing Premiere
Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) run on Saturday has been
explained after a post-race vet check conducted
at Chris Waller’s Rosehill stables revealed a
degree of mucus in his trachea, which could
have adversely affected his performance.
Nature Strip was beaten four lengths by
Libertini (I Am Invincible) and subsequently
lost his place at the head of The Everest (1200m)
betting. The six-year-old will now be placed on a
course of antibiotics and Racing NSW stewards
will need to be satisfied by his condition prior
to him racing in the world’s richest turf race on
October 17.
Golden Eagle ideal for RiodiniRiodini’s (Proisir) co-owner and breeder Alan
Galbraith is confident that the four-year-old can
measure up to the $7.5 million Golden Eagle
(1500m) after his gallant third in the Epsom
Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) on Saturday. Riodini,
a Group 3 winner and Group 1 placegetter
in New Zealand, has improved at every run
this preparation and will head to the Rosehill
feature on October 31. “We got a big thrill out
of the (Epsom) as it has been a real adventure
sending a horse over there to compete against
the best on offer,” Galbraith said. “The racing
there is just so strong and yesterday was a big
step up from what he faced here, so we got
a massive buzz out of how he went. Winona
Costin (jockey) said the pacemakers went a bit
quick in front so he didn’t really get a chance
to have a breather during the running. It would
have been nice for him to just get a little more
cover but all in all it was a bloody good run.
His next start will be in the Golden Eagle which
gives him a chance to have a freshen up. His
rating is high enough now that he will make the
field without any problems so we just have to
wait four weeks now, which is the hard part. If
he can get a chance to relax in that race, I think
he will be right in it as the 1500 metres suits him
best. We’ve always had huge affection for him
and it is a little like your children in that you are
hoping they will do well just for their sake.”
Young Rascal out of springArchie Alexander will aim Young Rascal
(Intello) at autumn races in Sydney after the
gelding disappointed in his three races since
returning in August. The six-year-old finished
last of 15 in the Bart Cummings on Saturday and
Alexander believes firm tracks are preventing
Young Rascal from producing his best form.
The European import’s biggest win last season
came in the N E Manion Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) on
soft ground.
Cumani gaining confidence in San HubertoMatt Cumani is excited to see his new recruit
San Huberto (Speightstown) in action after
the colt arrived from France at the weekend.
Cumani managed to visit Group 2 winner San
Huberto at the Werribee Quarantine Centre on
Saturday morning. OTI Racing bought into the
northern hemisphere four-year-old earlier this
year and will be targeting him at next month’s
Melbourne Cup. San Huberto is currently 32nd
in line for a Melbourne Cup start and 36th in
the Caulfield order of entry. San Huberto’s last
victory came in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (Gr
2, 3000m) on good to soft ground in June.
Payne’s faith in Kah as female inspirationMichelle Payne, the first female rider to win
the Melbourne Cup, is delighted with Jamie
Kah’s Melbourne Cup opportunity, where she
will ride the Charlie Fellowes-trained British
raider Prince Of Arran (Shirroco). Payne feels
Kah, who has already won two Group 1s, is
walking in her footsteps and will inspire the
next generation of female riders to take up
the sport. Payne famously rode Prince Of
Penzance (Pentire) to victory in 2015 at $101,
while Kah’s charge Prince Of Arran, a two-time
Melbourne Cup placegetter, is priced at $26 for
the November showpiece.
NEW ZEALAND
Jennifer Eccles out of Livamol ClassicLast season’s New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m)
winner Jennifer Eccles (Rip Van Winkle) will
not take her place in the Livamol Classic (Gr
1, 2040m) after she dropped out in the home
straight to finish near the tail end of the field in the
Windsor Park Plate (Gr 1, 1600m) on Saturday.
Co-trainer Shaune Ritchie was scratching his
head a little after the race and will now head
back to the drawing board with four-year-old
mare. “We are going to get the vet to her but I
don’t know if there is anything wrong with her
based on her post-race recovery,” Ritchie said.
“Her recovery was normal but she raced very
flat and anywhere between six to eight lengths
below her best. It’s hard to find an excuse as she
got a lovely trip and she travelled up OK and was
willing enough, but there was just no punch. I’ve
found the best thing to do in this situation is to
gracefully retreat and start again. If we went to
the races again and she went the same I would
be left feeling pretty bloody foolish.”
Hello It’s Me retiredGroup 2 winner Hello It’s Me (Darci Brahma)
has been retired after missing a run at Te Rapa
on Friday following a float accident. The six-
year-old won five of her 19 career starts but had
been finding it hard to recapture the form of
her three-year-old season where she took out
the Royal Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) at Ellerslie. Co-
trainer Michelle Bradley would have liked to
have given one of her favourites one last chance
to turn her form around but it wasn’t to be. “She
just had a little bit of an incident in the float on
the way to the races and suffered a few grazes
on one side,” Bradley said. “It wasn’t anything
major but Friday was going to be her last chance
to get back into form after disappointing us in
her first two runs in this campaign. She was
an absolute favourite around the stable and
I will miss her, but she can now go on to her
next career as a broodmare.” Hello It’s Me will
be offered as a broodmare prospect on the
gavelhouse.com website in the coming days.

First Group 1-winning sprinter for Deep ImpactThe late Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) has
already conquered so much through the feats of
his progeny, but he ticked off a new milestone
when Gran Alegria (4 f Deep Impact - Tapitsfly
by Tapit) produced a remarkable win in the
Sprinters Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Nakayama
yesterday. Sent out as favourite, Gran Alegria
appeared to be in a hopeless position turning
for home, second-last and 15 lengths off a brisk
tempo. However, she unleashed an incredible
turn of foot to sweep past her rivals and score
by two lengths over Danon Smash (Lord
Kanaloa) with another half-length to longshot
A Will A Way (Just A Way) in third. Gran Alegria,
who upset champion mare Almond Eye (Lord
Kanaloa) when winning the Yasuda Kinen (Gr
1, 1600m) in June, became the first Group 1
winner for Deep Impact at a distance below
1500 metres, giving the champion stallion top-
level victors from 1200 metres to 3200 metres.
Deep Impact died last year.

First for GaliwayHaras de Colleville resident Galiway (Gaileo)
sired his maiden elite level winner when his
son Sealiway (2 c ex Kensea by Kendargent)
sprinted clear of his four rivals to post an
impressive winning performance in the Prix
Jean-Luc Lagardere (Gr 1, 1400m) at Longchamp
yesterday. The Frederic Rossi-trained juvenile
was always travelling best of the small field on
the testing ground before quickening well under
Mickael Barzalona to register an eight-length win.
Odds-on favourite Nando Parrado (Kodiac) kept
on at one pace for second, with Laws Of Indices
(Power) another three-quarters of a length behind
in third. Sealiway was winning for the fourth time
in six starts, having scored in Listed company at
Vichy prior to his second in the Prix la Rochette
(Gr 3, 1400m) over this course and distance on
his previous outing. A €62,000 purchase at Arqana
last year, Sealiway is the third foal out of the Listed
winning Kendargent (Kendor) mare Kensea.
Galiway stood for a fee of €10,000 in 2020.
Three for Clodovil
The incredible progression of Tiger Tanaka (2
f ex Miss Phillyjinks by Zoffany) notched up
an extra gear yesterday when she landed the
prestigious Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m)
on Longchamp’s Arc card and in the process
provided her sire Clodovil (Danehill) with
his third individual elite level winner. Having
started the season in lowly claiming company,
the €6,500 purchase took her career tally to six
wins in seven starts when keeping clear of the
scrimmaging in a rough race to score by three-
quarters of a length under Jessica Marcialis, the
partner of winning trainer Cha Rossi. Tasmania
(Zoffany) emerged out of the pack to take
second, with Rougir (Territories) doing her best
work late on to finish third, a further length
and a half away. Tiger Tanaka won her first four
starts before finishing third of four when upped
in company to contest the Prix Robert Papin (Gr
2, 1200m) at Chantilly back in July. She got back
to winning ways when contesting a Group 3 on
testing ground at Deauville last month. The first
foal out of the winning mare Miss Phillyjinks
(Zoffany), Tiger Tanaka is related to numerous
winners, however none of them have come
close to matching her achievements. French
Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Clodovil stood
at Rathasker Stud for a fee of €8,000 (approx
AUD$13,000) in 2020.
Three for Wootton BassettThe Francis-Henri Graffard-trained Wooded
(3 c ex Frida La Blonde by Elusive City) took
out the Prix de l’Abbaye (Gr 1, 1000m) at
Longchamp yesterday to provide Wootton
Bassett (Iffraaj) with his third individual elite-
level winner. Ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot,
Wooded never had to leave the rail in pursuit
of his first Group 1 success and defeated the
17-10 favourite Glass Slippers (Dream Ahead)
by a neck, with Frankie Dettori’s mount Liberty
Beach (Cable Bay) close behind in third.
Coolmore’s new recruit Wootton Bassett also
sired Group 1 winners Almanzor and Audarya.
FR: Irish dominate Prix de l’OperaChristophe Soumillon unleashed Irish raider
Tarnawa (4 f Shamardal - Tarana by Cape
Cross) at the perfect time to lead home an
Irish-trained one-two in Longchamp’s Prix
de l’Opera (Gr 1, 2000m), with the Jessica
Harrington-trained Alpine Star (Sea The
Moon) battling hard to finish second. Tarnawa,
trained by Dermot Weld, swooped around the
outside and appeared to need every bit of the
2000-metre trip to get her head in front of 8-5
favourite Alpine Star and defeat her by a short
neck, with Audarya (Wootton Bassett) a further
three quarters of a length back in third. Victory
brought up a fourth Prix de l'Opera win for
Soumillon, who is the most successful rider
in the history of the race. Bookmakers reacted
by cutting Tarnawa to 5-2 favouritism for the
British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Gr 1,
1m 4f) on October 17.
FR: Master rules in Foret againIt may not have been the one everybody was
expecting, but a mare made history by winning
a race on the Arc card for the third time at
Longchamp yesterday when One Master (6 m
Fastnet Rock - Enticing by Pivotal) came out
on top in a tight finish to the Prix de la Foret
(Gr 1, 1400m). The William Haggas-trained
six-year-old, who had been triumphant in this
race in each of the last two years, completed
her hat-trick under a jubilant Pierre-Charles
Boudot when seeing off the leading home
fancy Earthlight (Shamardal) by a neck, with
Safe Voyage (Fast Company) just a further neck
away in third. One Master has now won seven
of her 22 starts to date, a tally which includes six
stakes victories.

121 for Oasis DreamCloud Surfing (4 f ex Hasten by Montjeu) was
making her second start in stakes company
yesterday when romping to a four and three
quarter length victory in the Schloss Roland-
Stutenpreis (Listed, 1400m) at Dusseldorf to
become the 121st individual stakes winner
for her sire Oasis Dream (Green Desert). The
Francois Rohaut-trained four-year-old was
recording her fourth win, with four placings,
from 11 starts. The favourite Light Blush (Kodiac)
came home second for Godolphin, while Belle
Anglaise (Cable Bay) was a further length back
in third. Oasis Dream stands at Juddmonte’s
Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket where his
2020 fee was £25,000 (approx. AUD$45,150).
Wonnemond back to winning ways at DusseldorfSeven-year-old Wonnemond (Areion) added a
third Group victory to his CV yesterday when
he was a surprise 20-1 winner of the Grosser
Preis der Landeshauptstadt (Gr 3, 1700m)
at Dusseldorf. The Sascha Smrczek-trained
gelding was placed on his last two starts but
was recording his first win since August last
year, taking his tally to ten wins and 13 placings
from 39 starts. He asserted close home to take
the honours by a length from Schwesterherz
(Areion), while Song Of Life (Poet’s Voice) was
a further length and a quarter back in third.
Sunny Queen doubles up at HannoverSunny Queen (Camelot) landed a second stakes
success at Hannover in yesterday’s Gorilla
Millions Cup (Listed, 2400m) on just her fourth
start. The Henk Grewe-trained three-year-old
won by three quarters of a length from Episodia
(Palace Episode) and Arktis (Jukebox Jury), who
were split by a nose.
Four in a row for Kick OnKick On (Charm Spirit) landed his fourth
stakes race on the bounce and is now four
from five since joining Niels Petersen from
John Gosden earlier this year as he took out
the Arnfinn Lunds Minnelop (Listed, 1600m)
at Ovrevoll in Norway yesterday. The four-year-
old landed a Group 3 and Listed race in Sweden
before winning the Marit Sveaas Minnelop
(Gr 3, 1800m) at this track in August, while
he also won the Sovereign Stakes (Gr 3, 1m)
and Feilden Stakes (Listed, 1m1f) in England
last year for Gosden. Sent off as favourite, he
charged late between horses to get the better of
Valence (Oasis Dream) while Swedish Dream
(Helmet) was third.
Six for Declaration Of WarFormer Coolmore stallion Declaration Of War
(War Front) produced his sixth individual Group
or Grade 1 winner on Saturday when Gufo (3 c ex
Floy by Petionville) took out the Belmont Derby
Invitational Stakes (Gr 1, 10f). The Christophe
Clement-trained Gufo took his record to five wins
from seven starts with his first top-level triumph,
defeating Todd Pletcher-trained stablemates No
Word (Silent Name) and Mo Ready (Uncle Mo)
to score by a length. "He won well. I thought he
had a great trip from Junior (Alvarado, jockey),
and when he asked him to quicken, he really
quickened well in the stretch. He's a good horse,"
Clement said. "If you look at all his races this year,
he's been running well all year round. I know he
got beat last time in the Saratoga Derby, but he
actually ran a winning race when you look back
at it." The win gives Gufo an automatic berth into
the Breeders’ Cup Turf (Gr 1, 12f), but Clement
said the Hollywood Derby (Gr 1, 9f) at Del Mar
was also under consideration. Declaration Of War
now stands at JBBA Shizunai in Japan.
26 for TapitDarley homebred Essential Quality (2 c ex
Delightful Quality by Elusive Quality) became
Tapit’s (Pulpit) 26th individual Group or Grade
1 winner on Saturday when the colt remained
unbeaten with a dominant victory in the
Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (Gr 1, 8.5f) at
Keeneland. Stepping out for just the second
time, having won a six-furlong maiden on the
Kentucky Derby undercard, the Brad Cox-
prepared Essential Quality scored by three
and a quarter lengths over Keepmeinmind
(Laoban), with Super Stock (Dialed In) a further
length and a half away in third. “We've had
some very nice two-year-old fillies, but this is
probably the best colt I've had as far as talent
goes. He's our first Grade 1 winner as a two-
year-old colt," Cox said. "He means a lot to us.
He showed us from day one that he's special;
very talented." Essential Quality will return to
the track and trip next month for the Breeders’
Cup Juvenile (Gr 1, 8.5f).
First for He’s Had EnoughFormer Florida-based stallion He’s Had Enough
(Tapit) registered his first stakes winner on
Saturday when Miss Marissa (3 f ex Ardara by
Arch) took out the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (Gr 2,
9f) at Pimlico. Sent out at 10-1, the Jim Ryerson-
trained Miss Marissa - a last-start allowance
winner at Saratoga - kicked for home at the top
of the stretch, holding off the late surge of the
favoured Bonny South (Munnings) to score by
a neck. Hopeful Growth (Tapiture) was a further
length and a half away in third. He’s Had Enough
served five seasons at Woodford Thoroughbreds
in Florida before being exported to the
Philippines, where he currently stands.
US: Swiss Skydiver wins PreaknessSwiss Skydiver (3 f Daredevil - Expo Gold by
Johannesburg) became just the sixth filly to win
the Preakness Stakes (Gr 1, 9.5f) at Pimlico with
a brilliant performance on Saturday, turning back
Kentucky Derby (Gr 1, 10f) winner Authentic
(Into Mischief) by a neck in a thrilling stretch
run that will be talked about for years to come.
In this strangest of years, the Preakness Stakes -
usually the middle leg of the Triple Crown - was
the last leg this year, with no Triple Crown on the
line. The Kenny McPeek-trained Swiss Skydiver,
already a Grade 1 winner in the Alabama Stakes
(Gr 1, 10f), was entering off a runner-up finish
behind Shedaresthedevil (Daredevil) in the
Kentucky Oaks (Gr 1, 9f). Tracking the pace early,
she moved up boldly under Robby Albarado to
challenge Authentic, with the pair going stride for
stride down the stretch. Authentic dug deep with
every bound, but Swiss Skydiver would not give
in and surged under the wire with just enough
to land her historic win; the duo came well clear
of third-placed Jesus’ Team (Tapiture), putting
almost ten lengths on the remainder of the field.
The final time was a swift 1:53.28; only Secretariat
(Bold Ruler) went faster. The win was the first by
a filly since Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d’Oro)
in 2009. Purchased for $35,000 by McPeek at the
2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Swiss
Skydiver has now earned $1,792,980.

US: Breeders’ Cup Mile heroine bounces back
Back in the same race and at the site of her
course record-setting performance a year ago at
Keeneland, Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr 1, 1m) winner
Uni (6 m More Than Ready - Unaided by Dansili)
found herself back in the winners’ circle, capturing
the First Lady Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) on Saturday.
Winless in 2020, the Chad Brown-trained Uni
- winner of the First Lady in a track record time
last year - pulled clear for a length victory over
Beau Recall (Sir Prancealot), who just nabbed the
winner’s stablemate Newspaperofrecord (Lope
De Vega) for the runner-up position. "I was so
stressed out," said co-owner Sol Kumin of the
Head of Plains partnership. "You know, if she
doesn't run well here, you couldn't run her back
in the Breeders' Cup after the year she had. Now
you run her back, same track in five weeks and
you feel like she might be back. Chad said her last
two breezes, he felt like she was circling back to
the form she had last year, so we were hopeful.
But until you see it, you just don't know. Just an
incredible filly."
US: South America’s Ivar takes Shadwell Turf MileIvar (4 c Agnes Gold - May Be Now by Smart
Strike), a dual Group 1 winner in his native
Argentina last year, now has a top-tier
victory in the United States to join his list of
accomplishments. The Paulo Lobo-trained
four-year-old captured the Shadwell Turf Mile
Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) by a length at Keeneland
on Saturday, defeating Grade 1 winners and
Chad Brown-prepared stablemates Raging Bull
(Dark Angel) and Without Parole (Frankel) and
earning an automatic berth in the Breeders’
Cup Mile in the process. Bred in Brazil, Ivar has
won five of his seven starts.
US: Second Joe Hirsch for Channel MakerThe classy Channel Maker (6 g English Channel -
In Return by Horse Chestnut), making his fourth
appearance in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes
(Gr 1, 12f) at Belmont Park, won the race for a
second time on Saturday with a frontrunning
victory under Manny Franco. The Bill Mott-
trained Channel Maker won the Joe Hirsch Turf
Classic in 2018, having finished sixth in 2017,
while he finished second last year to Arklow
(Arch). Rated well in front by Franco, Channel
Maker defeated German raider Laccario (Scalo)
by two and a quarter lengths with Sadler’s Joy
(Kitten’s Joy) in third and is now likely to target the
Breeders’ Cup Turf, a race in which he has been
well beaten the last two years.
US: Complexity once again bests CodeSaturday’s Kelso Handicap (Gr 2, 1m) was not
the first time Complexity (4 c Maclean’s Music -
Goldfield by Yes It’s True) got the better of Code
of Honor (Noble Mission) in stakes action at
Belmont Park. Over the same course and distance
in October, 2018, Complexity turned back the
same rival in the Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m).
Though Code of Honor stumbled at the start of
the Champagne, he did not find the same excuse
in the Kelso, which marked the first graded stakes
win for Complexity in two years. The Kelso victory
was a larger accomplishment considering that
Code of Honor has won five graded stakes since
the Champagne, including last season's Travers
Stakes (Gr 1, 10f) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (Gr
1, 10f). Complexity scored by two and a quarter
lengths over Code Of Honor, with Stan The Man
(Broken Vow) a further seven and a quarter
lengths away in third.
US: City Of Hope to Mo ForzaIt took Mo Forza (4 c Uncle Mo - Inflamed by
Unusual Heart) six tries to reach the winners’
circle for his maiden victory a year ago, but
now that the Peter Miller trainee has become
acquainted with success, he keeps coming back
for more. Mo Forza stormed home a convincing
winner of the City of Hope Mile Stakes (Gr 2,
1m) at Santa Anita on Saturday, defeating Sharp
Samurai (First Samurai) by a length and three
quarters with another length and a quarter back
to Bob And Jackie (Twirling Candy) in third. It
was the colt's sixth win from his last seven starts,
with the Breeders’ Cup Mile his next port of call.
"I think he's getting more and more professional
which is great," winning rider Flavien Prat said.
"Today he showed up again. We can probably go
further, but as of right now he's running pretty
well, so I wouldn't change anything."
US: Factor This continues strong seasonMaryland’s oldest stakes race, the Dinner
Party Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f), was taken out by
consistent performer Factor This (5 g The Factor
- Capricious Miss by Singspiel) at Pimlico on
Saturday. Reverting to its original name in 2020
after having been named the Dixie Stakes for
many years, the Dinner Party Stakes has been
won by some of the greats of the American
turf. The Brad Cox-trained Factor This may not
belong in that category, but after five wins from
seven starts in 2020, he is continuing to perform
this season. Factor This defeated the Michael
Maker-trained Somelikeithotbrown (Big
Brown) by two and three quarter lengths, with
the runner-up’s stablemate Hembree (Proud
Citizen) almost seven lengths away in third.
US: Turf Sprint next for LeinsterUnlike four other stakes races at Keeneland on
Saturday, the Woodford Stakes (G2, 5.5f ) was
not a Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" prep,
but Leinster (5 h Majestic Warrior - Vassar
by Royal Academy) is pointed to the season-
ending meeting regardless. By winning the
turf dash over the same course and distance
as next month’s Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1,
5.5f ), Leinster left his connections little doubt
that he belongs in the race. After pressing the
pace, he inched away for a half-length score
over Extravagant Kid (Kiss The Kid), the only
horse to beat Leinster in three starts this
year. Leinster finished seventh to Belvoir Bay
(Equiano) in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf
Sprint at Santa Anita, but his trainer Rusty
Arnold believes it is a different scenario this
season. "He was probably over-raced a little bit
last year," Arnold said. "At the end of the year,
I think that the last two weren't as good. He's a
fresh horse now."

US: Frank’s Rockette dominant in Gallant BloomThe Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (Gr 1,
7f) is now on the agenda for Frank’s Rockette
(3 f Into Mischief - Rocket Twentyone by Indian
Charlie) after she made it four in a row in the
Gallant Bloom Handicap (Gr 2, 6.5f) at Belmont
on Saturday. Ridden by Junior Alvarado, the
Bill Mott-trained Frank’s Rockette scored by
seven and a quarter lengths over Honor Way
(Caleb’s Posse), who overcame a slow start,
with Royal Charlotte (Cairo Prince) in third.
"The difference has been from this spring to
now," Mott said. "She put on weight over the
winter. We were in Florida and it seemed like
she was light and not really carrying the weight
I'd like to see, but we brought her up north. She
was here in New York for a while and over June,
July and August, she really filled out and put on
some weight and looks great, and it's paying off
right now."
US: Patience pays off for Inthemidstofbiz A patient approach paid off for the connections
of Inthemidstofbiz (4 f Fed Biz - Midst by
Closing Argument) when the filly scored
an upset victory in the Thoroughbred Club
of America Stakes (G2, 6f) on Saturday at
Keeneland. Making her graded stakes debut in
her 13th start having broken her stakes maiden
at Presque Isle Downs at her previous outing,
Inthemidstofbiz opened a clear advantage in the
stretch and wasn't seriously challenged late in
posting a three-length victory in the six-furlong
test for fillies and mares. Finishing second was
Sneaking Out (Indian Evening), who entered
off back-to-back graded stakes wins in southern
California, and taking third was Palace Avenger
(Palace), making her stakes debut off a pair of
allowance-level wins at Saratoga. "We got lucky
today. She's getting better and better," winning
trainer and co-owner Cipriano Contreras said
of the horse he claimed for $20,000 - she has
now won $297,121.
US: Fire At Will adds Pilgrim on turfThe Michael Maker-trained Fire At Will (2 c
Declaration Of War - Flirt by Kitten’s Joy) added
a turf stakes win to his maiden stakes victory
on dirt last time out, taking the Pilgrim Stakes
(Gr 2, 8.5f) at Belmont on Saturday. Fire At
Will utilised a frontrunning approach under
Kendrick Carmouche to take the Pilgrim after
he won the With Anticipation Stakes (Listed,
7f) - which was taken off the turf due to rain - at
Saratoga last month. Odds-on favourite Public
Sector (Kingman) finished second, two lengths
away, with Step Dancer (War Dancer) the same
margin away in third. "My horse ran a monster
race on the dirt last time," said Carmouche. "I
just figured, let me run away from there. He
was in hand the whole way. I was just waiting to
push the button. Mike Maker gets these horses
ready the right way. He's one of the best trainers
in the country with grass horses.”
US: Miss Preakness to Wicked WhisperLast year’s Frizette Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) winner
Wicked Whisper (3 f Liam’s Map - Zayanna
by Bernardini) scored a first win of 2020 in
taking out the Miss Preakness Stakes (Gr 3,
6f) at Pimlico on Saturday. Wicked Whisper
fought on between rivals to defeat Ain’t No
Elmers (Goldencents) by a length, with Sound
Machine (Into Mischief) back in third. "Her
season was definitely interrupted by this
year's racing calendar," winning trainer Steve
Asmussen said. "She was getting ready a little
late for things and with the cancellations we
got off track. It's beautiful to see her show the
quality she's always had. There are big things in
her future."
US: Juliet Foxtrot takes out GalloretteFavourite Juliet Foxtrot (5 m Dansili - Kilo
Alpha by King’s Best) took out the Gallorette
Stakes (Gr 3, 8.5f) at Pimlico on Saturday. The
Brad Cox-trained Juliet Foxtrot, who began
her career in the UK with Charlie Hills, won
the Modesty Handicap (Gr 3, 9.5f) at Arlington
last year and was then three-times Grade
1-placed late last year and this year. However,
Saturday represented her first win since the
Modesty, holding the fast-finishing Varenka
(Ghostzapper) to score by a length. "We're not
sure how far she wants to go. I think she is a true
miler," winning rider Florent Geroux said. "I
think she prefers firm turf, so today the ground
was a bit of a concern, but she was able to show
her class. She won by her class today."
US: Dilodovico comes out from behind camerasTelevision producer Damon Dilodovico was
certain Preakness Stakes day would be a
hectic afternoon for him as is, helping with the
production of a simulcast show featuring 12
stakes races at Pimlico, but little did he know he
would also have to find time to be the star of one
of those races. When Laki (7 g Cuba - Truthful
Dutch by Swear By Dixie) won the Frank J. De
Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (Gr 3, 6f), it
moved Dilodovico from behind the cameras to
in front of them as the trainer of the first-time
graded stakes winner. "It was unbelievably
exciting. Everybody was hollering," Dilodovico
said. "It was like a May Preakness." For
Dilodovico, who has been training since 1991,
it was his first graded stakes win in a training
career that has spanned roughly 3,949 starts
and 732 wins. "This means the world to me," he
said.

German-trained Virginia Joy
(Soldier Hollow), Lot 24, became
the top price of the Arqana Arc
Sale on Saturday night when
Michel Zerolo, Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore
International Agency) and Anne-Sophie Yoh-
Benet (YOHEA) went head-to-head to secure
the three-year-old filly.
It was Zerolo of Oceanic Bloodstock that
had the final say with a bid of €975,000 (approx.
AUD$1.6 million) for the daughter of Soldier
Hollow (In The Wings). Sold with an entry in the
EP Taylor Stakes (Gr 1, 10f) at Woodbine, the
Marcel Weiss-trained filly, offered by Panorama
Bloodstock for Gestüt Auenquelle, most recently
finished second in the T. von Zastrow Stutenpreis
(Gr 2, 2400m) following her victory in the Mehl-
Mülhens-Trophy (Gr 3, 2200m) and third in the
Preis der Diana (Gr 1, 2200m) this season.
Boussac runner Coeursamba makes €400,000
Coeursama (The Wow Signal), Lot 13, who
finished unplaced in yesterday’s Prix Marcel
Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m) having been third in
both the Prix d’Aumale (Gr 3, 1600m) and Prix
Six Perfections (Gr 3, 1400m), was also subject
to a lot of interest around the ring. It was Paul
Basquin of Haras du Saubouas that had the
final say on behalf of Mohamed Fahad Al
Attiyah, signing the docket at €400,000 (approx.
AUD$654,250) for the daughter of The Wow
Signal (Starspangledbanner). “I’ve bought her
for Mohamed Fahad Al Attiyah,” commented
Basquin. “She was the one we wanted in the sale.
My client has already had a good experience
with Jean-Claude Rouget thanks to Mission
Impassible, so he would like to work with him
again. We’re delighted!”
Step By Step for Narvick International
An excellent third in the Prix Chaudenay (Gr
2, 3000m) at Longchamp just a few hours before
the sale following on from his win in the Derby du
Languedoc (Listed, 2400m) and second in the Prix
de Lutèce (Gr 3, 3000m) earlier this season, Step
By Step (Sidestep), Lot 25, made €320,000 (approx.
AUD$523,000) to Emmanuel de Seroux (Narvick
International). The colt was offered from Yann
Barberot’s stable. A little earlier in the evening,
the agent had struck for Dick Whittington (War
Command), Lot 12, also trained by the Deauville
handler. Third in the Prix Turenne (Listed, 2400m)
on his last start having finished fourth in the Prix
Hocquart (Gr 2, 2500m) at Deauville this summer,
the three-year-old gelding was knocked down for
€270,000 (approx. AUD$441,500).
Kalifornia Queen heading stateside
One of the best German fillies of her
generation this year, Kalifornia Queen (Lope De
Vega), Lot 11, was knocked down for €260,000
(approx. AUD$425,000) to Hubert Guy. The
winner of the Gestüt Röttgen Diana-Trial (Gr 2,
2000m) this season, the daughter of Lope De Vega
(Shamardal) finished sixth in the Prix de Royallieu
(Gr 1, 2800m) earlier in the afternoon before going
through the ring. Acting on behalf of American
owner Sol Kumin (Madaket Stables), Guy said
afterwards, “She’s a real racehorse that has won
a Group 2 already. She ran very well today over a
shorter distance and on ground that wasn’t to her
liking. I’ve bought her for Sol Kumin and she’ll go
to Chad Brown in New York.”
Following the sale, Freddy Powell, the
executive director of Arqana said, “In spite of the
unfavourable economic climate, we have still seen
positive signals. The demand for quality profiles
remains strong, with European and particularly
French black-type being valued worldwide. There
have been some fine transactions that will, among
other things, enable young French trainers and
owners to reinvest. These are positive signs in the
run-up to the October Yearling Sale.”
A total of 19 horses went under the hammer
at the Arc Sale held at Saint-Cloud, with 11 lots
changing hands for an average of €277,273
(approx. AUD$453,500). With an overall
turnover of €3,050,000 (approx. AUD$4.99
million), the median for the auction was
€260,000 (approx. AUD$425,000).

Rising star Excellent Proposal
(Exceed And Excel) made a big
statement with an impressive
win in the Class 2 Chek Lap
Kok Handicap (1800m) at Sha Tin yesterday
afternoon.
The exciting John Size-trained gelding
beat a classy field of experienced gallopers to
cement his status as a leading contender for
this season’s three-race Four-Year-Old Classic
Series which begins with the HK$12 million
Hong Kong Classic Mile on January 24.
“He didn’t sort of blow them away today
but he certainly did the job,” Size said, “he’s got
himself to a rating that’s comfortable to be an
aspirant of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series – so
I’m happy with that.
“His temperament is good – he’s sound, he
does well and now that he’s got that rating he
can have a break.”
Excellent Proposal took his impressive
record to three wins from four starts with his
half-length score, and he has now ticked off
both the Classic Mile (1600m) and Classic Cup
(1800m) trips. While the Derby distance of 2000
metres remains an unknown, it is of no concern
to winning jockey Joao Moreira: “I don’t see any
problem with that,” he said.
“He’s been coping with everything that we
have put to him. Fortunately today we didn’t get
caught four-deep like last time but he prevailed
showing that he’s the best horse in the field and
the way that he won he proved that,” Moreira
said.
The Australian-bred four-year-old finished
second on debut last term and this season is
unbeaten in three starts, firstly over 1400m,
then 1600m and 1800m yesterday.
“He’s a very kind and relaxed horse, I
couldn’t be more delighted than what I am with
this guy – he’s got a bright future,” Moreira said.
Excellent Proposal, carrying 123lb, defeated
last start winner Tianchi Monster (Shocking),
111lb, by a half-length and had quality gallopers
including Ho Ho Khan (Makfi), 133lb, a Group
3 winner, Butterfield (Setembro Chove),
129lb, Savvy Nine (Anodin), 129lb, Reliable
Team (Reliable Man), 127lb, and Enrichment
(Teofilo), 119lb, well in his wake.
“He knows what racing is about and for me
as a jockey I just have to try and not complicate
it, to try and avoid him getting a bump or check,
to get him a smooth race which once again was
the case. This type of horse always makes a
jockey’s life easier,” Moreira said.
Caspar Fownes notches 900Caspar Fownes recorded his 900th Hong
Kong win at the meeting as Enfolding (Fastnet
Rock) charged home with the Class 3 Ngong
Ping Handicap (1650m).
“It’s been great,” Fownes said. “I haven’t
been training for that long really but 900 wins
is a good milestone and I’m looking forward to
the 1000 – that’s the next target and hopefully
we’ll get that in the next two seasons.”
Fownes was first licenced for the 2003/04
racing season after assisting his late father
Lawrie Fownes, a pioneer of Hong Kong racing.
“There’s been so many moments – I have so
much passion for this game because we know
what goes on behind the scenes with horses,
they can break your heart with the problems
they have and when you come out there and get
the results it’s so rewarding.
“Most of the public and everyone are just
watching the results, they don’t know what goes
on behind the scenes – we work really hard, all
of the trainers in Hong Kong and we try to do
our best to get these horses out there week in
and week out to perform,” Fownes said.
Fownes’ many credits include the 2006
Hong Kong Mile with The Duke, 2011 Hong
Kong Sprit with Lucky Nine and the 2010 Hong
Kong Derby with Super Satin plus international
success in Singapore with Green Birdie, Lucky
Nine and in more recent years with Southern
Legend, who won back-to-back Kranji Miles.
Today’s milestone came in Class 3 and while
not the dizzying heights that Fownes has scaled
previously, it was still a special win nonetheless.
“It’s great to get it with a horse like that, who
has had his share of issues – I thought I had him
really well prepared for this race – his trials were
good,” Fownes said.

Derby aspirant Excellent Proposal scores rousing victory at Sha Tin
Excellent Proposal HKJC

Whyte and Purton combineDouglas Whyte and Zac Purton combined
for their first win together this afternoon
at Sha Tin with Temple Of Heaven (Iffraaj)
who captured the Class 3 Mui Wo Handicap
(1400m).
The pair were fierce competitors in the
jockeys’ room, with Purton ending Whyte’s
13 consecutive champion jockey titles, but
yesterday the pair were on the same side,
linking for their first win as trainer and jockey.
“I’m in a different role now and he’s taken
over where I left off, he deserves to be winning
races and his performances are showing that as
he’s riding very well,” Whyte said.
The Northern Hemisphere three-year-
old scored at his third start thanks to a strong
finishing ride from the Australian ace to win by
a short-head.
He’s been a little bit green and he’s taken a
long time to learn things, even in the mornings,
he was a bit too keen and he wanted to do
things upside down but his last run indicated
that he was coming to hand,” Whyte said.
The gelding was a three-time winner pre-
import in Great Britain when under the care
of Richard Hannon; his latest win prior to his
arrival, a five-length romp on the Tapeta track
at Newcastle.
“He didn’t have much luck previously and
I think he’s always wanted to step up to 1400
metres, it was just a matter of him needing
those runs underneath his belt before I stepped
him up, otherwise he would have been a bit too
keen but it was a good ride by Zac (Purton),”
Whyte said.
Purton did not waste time in his return to
the winner’s arch, taking the following race,
the Class 3 Fan Lau Handicap (1000m) aboard
Cruising (Danerich) for trainer Benno Yung.
The galloper scored his first win since mid-
2018, putting a frustrating run of outs and injury
concerns behind him to grab his second win at
his 11th start.
Shinn’s off the markBlake Shinn secured his first win for the
new season as the David Hall-trained Plikclone
(Burgundy) outlasted his rivals in the Class 5
Tung Chung Handicap (1400m).
“I was very happy to get that one out of the
way,” Shinn said, “it’s been a little while coming
to get that breakthrough win, as we know, Hong
Kong is all about winning and once you win you
get better opportunities – it’s been tough to get
good opportunities.”
The Melbourne Cup-winning jockey broke
through at his 34th ride in the 78th race of
the season, highlighting the toughness and
competitive nature of riding in Hong Kong.
“I feel people wanting me to do well in
Hong Kong but it’s about winning and it’s a
tough business here, there are some world-
class jockeys so I’m just pleased to get that one
out of the way and keep moving forward now.
“I’m hoping I can hang in there, get some
more opportunities to keep extending my
contract and keep trying to improve up the ranks
as a leading rider in Hong Kong,” Shinn said.
Matthew Chadwick and Tony Cruz
successfully combined for the second time in
as many race meetings as Diamond Pegasus
(Snitzel) registered a tough victory in the Class
4 Tong Fuk Handicap (1200m).
The gelding was headed in the straight by
Jade Phoenix (Per Incanto) but rallied under
Chadwick to get his nose in front when it
mattered the most.
Chadwick then bagged a double by taking
the second of two dirt contests, the Class 4 Tai
O Handicap (1650m) aboard Chung Wah Spirit
(Dash For Cash).
The Me Tsui-trained Sparkling Dolphin
(Exceed And Excel) surprised at 74/1 in
the Class 4 Sha Lo Wan Handicap (1000m),
securing Dylan Mo’s second seasonal win.
Frankie Lor and Karis Teetan combined
in the Class 4 Siu Ho Wan Handicap (1400m)
as All For St Paul’s (Magnus) grabbed his first
Hong Kong win.
The Benno Yung-trained You Have My
Word (Mastercraftsman) was wayward in the
straight but kept kicking to grab the opener,
the Class 5 Yi Oi Handicap (1800m) for Chad
Schofield.
Hong Kong racing continues at Happy
Valley this Wednesday (October 7).
