    ART & DESIGN

My name is XY. I live in Rijeka, Croatia.Currently I am attending 4th, final grade of High School forApplied arts. For past few years I have been thinking about choices for my further education. My wishes

kept changing according to my age, but I always knew that my choice will be related with some sort ofart and creative work. The reason is that I truly enjoy creating things with my own hands, and it makesme even more happy when somebody else enjoys my work too. So I decided to take courses thatinvolve culinary skills and design. Behind each of these two choices there is a story. A lot of experiencein my current school influenced my choice to take courses in field of design. I enrolled in the abovementioned school despite the opposition of people around me. They thought that art is unprofitablebecause of high rate of unemployment in Croatia. However, I was already thinking about studyingabroad back then. The reason is that I do not have great opportunities in my own country, as I will havein England. I started to love art even more because of projects that were organised within school. Themost successful project for me was the one organised last year. Its goal was to design a functional itemmade of unusaual material. I made a freestanding clock, out of concrete with multiple uses. It seemslike that was the recipe for success. I won the first prize at the national competition in designinnovation called “Inova” and the first prize at city competition for young innovators. The city of Rijekaalso gave me special commendation for contribution to innovation and design. I also participated inprojects that were of voluntary character. First one was in collaboration with center for social care.Along with my classmates I painted a wall mural at the dormitory of the centre. After that I participatedin a project that was meant to help sightless children to understand better the world of insects. Butmost fun of all was to work in town St.Kuzam with association of local artists. A few students and Ipainted a wall mural on a playground. Theme was Glagollitic (old Croatian alphabet). The goal was to

introduce tradition to kids in a fun way. Similar goal was achieved in the latest project I participated in,called New carnival. There is long tradition of carnival in Rijeka. The goal was to raise interest forcarnival and its traditions among young people, in a innovative way and that is street art. This form ofart is my favourite because its free for all and often provokes viewers to think. I would like to popularizestreet art even more. In the future I would also try to make living out of it. That is the story behind mypassion for art.One about my passion for cooking is a bit different. Ever since I can remember my familyand especially my dad has taught me about cooking. I was lucky enough to have a dad who encouragedmy love for cooking because he himself was a chef. Fortunately, fast food is still not enoughpopularized in Croatia, so our diet is made of local and fresh ingredients. That is a great thing aboutliving in the Mediterranean but I am curious about other cuisines that are still exotic to me.Here I donot have a chance to explore other cuisines because foreign ingredients are unavailable.I believe thatin a multicultural country such as England I will have a chance to meet other cultures through theircuisine.I hope to have an opportunity to work in some exotic restaurant in future.Besides cooking andart I have another passion, scouting. I have been a scout for 10 years now and 3 years ago I finally hadenough knowledge and skills to become a volunteer working with kids. My assignment is to organizeand lead weekly meeting, where I teach kids about first aid, orientation, knots, reading maps etc. Butthe most important lesson I am trying to teach them is to become volunteers themselves one day. Ihope I will have a chance to get to know England myself because it is the cradle of scouting movement.

My name is XY. I am 19 years old. Last year I studied to become radiology technologist, but there isonly few things one can do when finishes such course. Especially in my country. So I decided it's time

to detach myself from safety of my home and step into a real world.

When I heard about this amazing opportunity to study in one of the leading countries in the worldregarding film and television industry, the only thing left for me to do is to introduce myself to you, inhope you will consider my application.

When I was little I would always engage into different activities and sports, including puppetry, whereI fell in love with acting and performance. Throughout the years, we traveled around Europe andperformed various shows, fully directed by my Croatian teacher. She was, among many other, myinspiration to follow my heart and study Film and TV studies and Film Production.

In high school I signed up for acting classes. My acting teacher was also a famous Croatian actor, who

took us to different film and television sets. There I had the opportunity to familiarize with basic filmingequipment, we had a chance to work with the cinematographers and other actors. One of those timeswe joined a live show, which our acting teacher was co-hosting, as a part of a crew that helped withorganization and preparation. That was maybe one of the most important experiences I have hadwhich helped me comprehend the difficulties that comes with a job, and importance of team work.

When in kindergarten, I was introduced to English language, and I've been learning it since. I wouldn'tsay I was caught up into it from the beginning, but being introduced to it at such young age gave meplenty of time to fall in love with its beauty. Up until I was 10, I didn't really understood its value. Infourth grade we got a new English teacher. She was incredibly smart, and very eager to teach us asmuch as she could. Through small games, rewards, children songs and playful assignments, all of usslowly started to pick up all the useful knowledge that we should have had long before that.

In my high school years, next to another brilliant English professor, I got more and more involved withEnglish language as I started reading books in English, and watching a variety of TV shows and films. This is where I slowly started to plan to study something connected to Film industry. I did a lot ofresearch on studying abroad, but never had enough courage to actually go through with it. In my mind,I was stuck studying in Croatia, even though I always planned on finding a job outside Croatia once Igraduate. But if I have even a smallest chance to start my education and build my life in Great Britain, gives me such a feeling of excitement and gratitude.

As I started high school, instead of participating in different activities, I decided to find a job, andsometimes volunteer. Since then I have had a job as a cleaner, I volunteered in kindergarten since Iwas fourteen, and when in elementary school I volunteered in nursing homes, homes for abandonedchildren, and as of April this year a work as a administrator/secretary. Next year in January, I singedup for directing and screen writing course, to obtain more knowledge and experience regarding thecourses I want to study in United Kingdom.

My biggest dream is to become successful director, but even working in the same field would beenough. I would like to meet lots of different people and to be a part of various projects, and at somepoint to become a writer.

Thank you for reading my personal statement, and I hope to receive affirmative answer from you.

My name is XXXX and I am 18 years old. I would love to study in Wales. Since I was 14 I was interestedin art and design, mainly architutcure. I think I am good at drawing, which my grades in school can

prove. I did several drawings of interior design and if needed I can show you those. Many of myteachers say I am talented for drawing. Ever since I was little I loved to draw. I am also very neat whenit comes to drawing, but life in general as well. You need to have loads of patience and will for this kindof job which I love and have. I think art is important, which is I why I applied for these courses.Television and film set design is also exciting. I think I am creative and I use my creativity to makedesigns. Photography is also amazing course. For my birthday I got professional camera which mademe so happy. I love taking photos and capturing moments. I always take photos at birthdays or justrandom days. I also love taking photos of city and nature. I want to travel and take photos of all amazingplaces in the world. That is also why I am applying for photojournalism. Journalism is important, but Ican express myself with photos only. Photos, art and design are my way to express my feelings andthoughts. When I went to first grade of high school, school of applied art and design, there was a lotof drawing and painting and I thought I won't succeed because others who were my competition werevery good, but I didn't give up from something I love and in my opinion I have progressed very much.My brother always told me not to give up in something you love even though you are at the bottomyou will succeed if you are persistent. At the end of first grade I had to choose main courses, betweenphotographers, artists, stylists, arrangers, graphic artists, ceramists and architetcure which I chose. MyA course was architetcure and my B course was arrangment, but I also wanted photography. I wasscared I won't make it duing entrence exams, but here I am. Now I'm finishing last year of architectinterior design and I'm very proud of myself, my progress and everything I learned in 4 years. From

work in Autocad, models and the smallest detail in space. In the second grade I was a model tophotographist in my school and by the end of the school I started doing photography as well. I am veryinterested in photography, as I stated in the upper text. I started learning english as a child so I can'tsay that I don't know it. In summer of 2011 I started learning russian, so I can speak a little andunderstand some. For South Wales university I heard from friends and I thought about it for long timeuntil I told my parents who supported me in it. I was told to say when I apply for university that I havea certificate of completion of the course,, basics of 3D digitization.

    FILM 3

Films have the power to inspire, elicit a smile and take you on a journey of inexhaustible humanimagination. Those are the things that attracted me towards film. Later in life, I got a chance to

experience what it was like to be a part of a film set and my enthusiasm for this medium has beengrowing ever since. Roles that captured my interest are those of a director of photography and adirector. I am impressed with how photography influences the whole film experience, and how playingwith light can portray various emotions. This course is a great opportunity to explore both, practicaland theoretical side of filmmaking, as well as exchange ideas with people who share my passion.

At the age of 14 I became a part of a film group at my school where I was introduced to the art ofstorytelling and producing documentary films. I am now grateful for the chance I had to experiencevarious areas of film production. Working with a camera proved to be my favourite part. My experiencewas enriched by attending a workshop during which we shot a short film using stop animation. It wasscreened at the Croatian Amateur Film Festival.

In high school, I showed interest in journalism and philosophy, which have only expanded my views onvarious themes and ideas. In 2012 I did voluntary work in the production of a short film. My job was torecord sound on location, including dialogues and foley sound. I was committed to my role, alwaystrying to do my best and learn as much as I could from the more experienced colleagues. Thatexperience made a huge impact on me as I realised the importance of team work on a film set. It wasmy first job as sound recordist but I managed to overcome all the challenges due to hard work andmotivation. It strengthened my decision to pursue a career in the film industry.

Recently, I was a part of a youth exchange programme in Italy. With the help of my two colleagues, Imade a short film about our activities in the programme. Working with new people requestedflexibility, mutual trust and good time management as we had only one day to complete the film. I

contributed by providing most of the video materials and putting my editing skills to use. Through allof these workshops and projects I realised how important it was to know the basics of editing to plana shot and how it influenced the dynamic of the film. That is why I am doing my best to practise editingin Adobe Premiere .

Even though I finished high school with honours, I could not afford going to college so I started working.Working in a bookshop helped me to improve communication skills through interaction withcustomers and proved that I could cope with the physical aspect of work in a warehouse. When mywork environment became stressful, I always strived to motivate fellow colleagues and create a goodworking atmosphere. Working in a museum gave me a chance to encounter various artists anddifferent forms of art, which only stimulated my own creative side.

Work gave me a chance to save up for my first DSLR camera, which enabled me to start thinking aboutmy own projects. I currently have one project in the stage of pre-production. The script for this shortfilm was written in collaboration with my friend.

I use every free weekend for hiking and enjoy playing basketball and practising chi kung . I am open tolearning and enjoy reading philosophical literature. I am trying to travel as much as I can and, on a tightbudget, my journeys sometimes turn out to be real adventures. Such was my time in Ireland, where Ispent two months working on an apple farm.

I would like to redirect my thirst for knowledge towards learning about film and the processes ofmaking an audio-visual story. I see myself working in a camera department one day but my ultimategoal is to become a director of photography. I hope this personal statement demonstrates that I am

enthusiastic, determined and a hard-working student eager to learn.

    MAKE UP AND MEDIA

My name is XXX and I live in Croatia. I’m 18 years old and as every young person of my age I findmyself at the crossroads of my life. I am aware that the decision I make concerning my future education

will destine the course my life will take. Which road should I travel? Should I stay here like most of mypeers or leave with a couple of bags packed with all my fears, aspirations, dreams, hopes anddetermination. Dreams become reality if you believe in them. It has always been a dream of mine tobecome a make- up artist and I really believe this is my destiny. I’m aware that there is a lot of hard workahead of me with due perseverance, but I am also aware that sacrifices lead to success. Maybe thiswill sound odd but my recipe in life has been not to weigh down my ambitions with too much thinking. Ifyou have a vision and an idea you should pursue its realization. I am about to finish the GeneralGymnasium High School program and after graduating I can enroll into any college or university becausein Croatia a general gymnasium is classified as the most demanding level of secondary schoolingrendering general knowledge in all aspects, including the English language, Literature, Mathematics,Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Music, etc. I am very happy to have attained a solid knowledge

in all these fields for my own personal understanding and general culture and that by learning the Englishlanguage I am able to travel to different countries making it possible for me to communicate with otherpeople on this earth with ease. However, I am also aware that the choice of my future occupation cannotbe based on a decision coming from my head but from the heart. The essence of life is not to earn aliving from work as a necessity, but from a job that one enjoys. The work you chose should be pursuedwith a maximum effort and this can only be done if the job you’ re doing you relish with enthusiasm. Ihave, therefore, decided to turn to you with the hope that you will be helpful and enable me to enroll inthe program - Specialist hair and media make-up. This has always been a dream of mine and my focusin life. I know while I write this that all of us who are contacting you accentuate how we adore beauty,make-up, hair design and in general ways to make someone more attractive since it makes us feel moresatisfied and self-confident. We are the girls that gave our Barbie dolls hair-cuts when we were little. We stole from our mothers’ cosmetic bags all sort of “magic”, thinking that with a little rouge, mascaraand lipstick we could transform into princesses. When we grew up some of us became such expertsthat on Saturday nights, before we went out, our room was full of friends waiting their turn for our handsto create magic and make them beautiful. With time our play turned to passion. But how can one tellthat someone really has “that something” or a flair for so mething that makes her more special.Personally, I have never used the same make-up technique for two persons. For make-up to transforminto an art the person you are applying make-up to must become unique. Since my early teenage yearsI have been working with make-up. The last two years I have had the chance to take part in make-upworkshops. I have had the luck to get to know my mother’s friend who is a media make -up artist on theCroatian television and in fashion shows. Whenever I can, I spend time with her and absorb herknowledge and little tricks. I also assist the more experienced and older make-up artists on importantshootings and fashion shows. Each new departure to a happening where make-up and hair styling is

the focus I try to improve and broaden my knowledge as a make-up artist since experience and practiceare always equally important in each job as they are in this one. I have many sources of inspiration formake-up. The make-up artist whose work I have been following and who I esteem very much is PatMcGrath and the well-known stylist Eugene Souleiman. What I feel when I watch their creations arepassion and addiction. Because of this feeling I know that the choice I have made is from the heart. The Specialist hair and media make-up program is exactly what would make my dreams come true. This is what I want to do and excel in. I hope you will open your doors to me and enable me to leave asmall contribution and imprint in this world. As the one and only Coco Chanel said “I don't understandhow a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty aspossible for destiny!”

    Yours sincerely,

    UCB MEDIA MAKE UP

Vienna. Three years ago. My favourite singer's concert. I was standing in front of the arena for a fewhours when they finally opened the gate. It was a crucial moment, the moment when you run and fight

to get as close as possible to the stage. That is the moment when you give your very best to achievewhat you have always dreamed about. That is exactly what I am going to do now. I am going to showto You how special I am and prove to You that You will benefit from every second of Your time spenton me and my education.

The time has come for me to decide what to do for the rest of my life. It is usual in my country to go toa university to become a doctor, a lawyer or a science professor. Since I was not able to see myselfworking in professions like these, I was afraid of future for a very long time. It is in these moments offear that I realised I should go abroad in order to study what I want, University College Birminghamhas offered exactly what I was looking for.

It is because of my creativity and my wish to work with people that my first choice is Specialist Hairand Media Make-up. The first time I was looking at the list of UCB's courses, this course was the firstone that could prepare me for a perfect job. I think the reasons for that are my interests and hobbiesbecause all of them have something to do with make-up, creativity and art. For many years now, I havespent as much time as I could painting, drawing and making accessories. I also take classes in interiordesign. I always do make-up for me and my friends, especially at Halloween and our carnival and I tryto find inspiration everywhere I can.

Throughout school, I have showed a great interest in organisation of school trips, charity fund raisingsetc. While the rest of my colleagues considered managing these events was too stressful, I alwaysenjoyed it because that way I was able to experience excitement caused by that occasion for muchlonger. Prom is the most important evening to every person of my age and that is the reason why I feltso honoured when my friends decided to trust me with the entire organisation of our special night. Iwas very proud of myself because this meant that I apparently did a great job in arranging before. These are the main reasons why my second choice of course is Events Management.

Among many other things, cooking is also my passion. I have always been very interested in cookingand baking for my family and friends. Besides being a way of relaxing, cooking for me is about beingcreative and exploring new combinations of flavours. That is why my third choice is Culinary ArtsManagement.

My main goal in life is to be happy about what I do and to know I spent my life the best way possible.I need to do what I love so I can have a happy and fulfilled life. I want my job not only to be somethingI have to do for living, but also my hobby and something I will do with all my heart and passion. I wantto experience new things every day, to socialize and show the whole world the creativity that has beengiven to me, UCB has exactly what I need to achieve that.

    UCB MAKE UP

My name is xy, I am coming from small, but lovely country Croatia. I finished high school for interiordesign and professional makeup course in Rijeka, Croatia. My main reason for application is due to my

love for makeup, art and basically everything connected to it, as the amazing opportunity to experienceBritish culture and expand my vocabulary and knowledge of the English language.

I have been freelancer makeup artist for years, and my love for makeup is really strong and passionate.I have basic education in makeup, so one of my greatest wishes is to expand my knowledge and oneday work as a makeup artist. A few examples of my experience in freelance makeup include workingon independent movies as a lead makeup artist. I have also won the first prize in makeup competition“Cosmetics News 2014” in Opatija, Croatia. I think for that your university offers one of the bestopportunities for me to further my education. Therefore, Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up i s theright choice for me. I have experience how makeup and hair industry can be hard, and challenging to

work in, but I am going to do my best to show my skills and love for makeup, and I will work hard toaccomplish my goals.

One of the most exciting part of this education program is probably SF-make up. That is my main fieldof interest, so for me that represents a great chance to push my creativity and art skills to new levels.Furthermore, I know the importance of the clients I am working on, that is, my social skills and care forthe client is one of the basic knowledge of a makeup artist. My knowledge for social interaction andworking with people comes from various sources and not just from my makeup school and jobs, aswell as my experience as a waitress. I enjoy working with people and believe, that is one of my manypositive traits. Volunteering experience in in “Youth In action” and “Social kitchen” has given me an

opportunity to learn about new cultures and various ethnicities which is vital for understandingpeople`s needs, rituals and has given me experience in team work and group projects which is crucialin makeup industry. My cultural background can help me to be as productive as much as I can, andmoving out of Croatia can be a great experience and icebreaker for further jobs. As well, this collegewill provide me with the amazing history and charm of the wonderful city of Birmingham, that is homeof many cultural events, researches and historical events that I would like to feel and experience.

To conclude my inquiry, I think that this college is the best option for me, my studies and furthereducation. This is one of my life goals, my dreams, and this is probably too poetic, but is hard todescribe something that you love so much in so few words. Your college seems like a great communityfull of new experiences, and interesting and challenging environments to work in. I am hoping thatyou will reconsider my application and that I will show you my interest and love for the makeupindustry, and that I can learn and expand my borders and limits. I would like to thank you for your closereading. I am looking forward to your positive response.

    MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION

My name is XXX, I'm 18 years old and I'm coming from Croatia. I'm still not sure(as most of the people)what I'm looking for, but I am definitely sure that is not studying in Croatia, mainly because of the

terrible situation at out school system. Also, I don't find myself interested in Croatia's „non -creative“university programmes.

I remember when I was 13, I was watching some interesting movie with my mother. Since that day Iknew I want something different from the life I live. I have always wanted to spread my thoughts onsome worldwide level, and I'm sure that living and studying in UK is what can bring me that joy. Manypeople says that it is very dangerous to go somewhere completely on your own and that leftingeverything is not easy and I am aware of that, but I'm sure that one day I will be happy i've done thatbig step for my future. I've always been sure that courage is the most important characteristic for aperson.

I am going to school in Pazin and in July 2015 I will finish my high school experience. I can say that i'vegain a great variety of knowledge, I've pass all my classes with the highest marks and I've invested alot in my education. Pazin is not my hometown, I've been travelling to Pazin for 4 years which I don'tfind very hard because that gymnasium is one of the most popular and well known in Croatia. I'vebeen going to dance school since I was 3 and dancing is the biggest part of my life, the way I can expressmy feelings and put my body and mind in another dimension. I've also finished Music School playingpiano which gave me a great experience in music and performing. I find myself interested in paintingand decorating also, so I can say that I'm a creative person.

Along with dancing and performing, my greatest pleasure is traveling. I think that nothing can bringme more experiences and greater knowledge than that. In my life i've traveled a lot, pass through alot of concerts, festivals and cultural events just because I want to experience other cultures and meetpeople i can communicate with. In my opinion, that is a great way for success.

The program I am interested in is Media and Communication, that is my first choice because I thinkthat is the program which combine every experience of my life and it will be my pleasure to gainknowledge from that program. My second choice will be Business studies, little less creative, but Iknow that is easier way to find a job and I want to study something which can give me an opportunityto travel, to progress and meet another cultures. Movie production is the program I am very interestedin just because I adore watching good movies, and going to cinema with my friends is the mostbeautiful way to spend your evening. I always think what is going on behind the scene and that is whythis will be my third choice.

In my company I am known as always smiling person, very tolerating and open minded, always readyfor new experiences. My friends say that I'm the most motivated person they've met and I'm sure mygreat motivation for studying and learning will lead to great success. That is why I want to study atyour University in UK and I am really trully excited just thinking that the next year at this time, I will bein UK, doing things I like, learning things I love.

I am writing to apply for the ICT / Computer science BSc courses. Currently I am a fourth grade studentin Electromechanical School Varazdin. My course is electrical engineering, however, I’ve always been

more inclined for computer technician course. For a long time, I plan admission to universities in theUK. Currently I am attending Cisco Network Academy (CCNA Course) and Linux Foundation SystemAdministrator (LFCS). I should get diplomas by end of June. In my free time I study for Microsoft Server2012R2 MCSE course, but sadly, I don’t have enough financial abilities to pay it. My parents are verypoor, so I have to work if I want to impersonate my projects and finish courses, which are veryexpensive. On my luck, school helped me with scholarship for Cisco courses and Linux Foundation giveme another scholarship to attend one of their courses about System Administration.

I have always been interested in computers and informatics since my sixth year. In fourth grade I’vebeen on national competition in Math. Then it started my big love for Mathematics, physics andinformatics. On online platforms for study (MOOCs), I already got over 30 certificates for completedcourses. I mostly use edX - which represent one of best universities in USA - and Coursera, but alsoBritish FutureLearn or Australian Open2Study. Subjects are mainly about informatics andprogramming, but also English language, physics, social sciences, law and more. My GPA is about 4.60out of 5 and I have excellent grades in English language and most of my professional subjects.

Like once wisely man said “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity” – Albert Einstein, my life is basedon getting through difficulties and finding an opportunity which allows me to go further. Mymicrocomputers teacher inspired me when he said that, whole his life he need to learn new things, soI attended “Learning how to learn” course on Coursera, where I have learned many new ways how tolearn, how to focus, concentrate, and give my best to achieve goals. These words give me a lot of

confidence and inspiration for further study. Also they give me faith and courage to continue my work.I’ve always been trying to achieve my goals by trying hard and not quitting after fall, but trying everharder - “What doesn’t kill us, make us stronger” – Friedrich Nietzsche.

Professional practice I performed in ICT department on Croatian Radio-television (Croatian NationalTelevision), which gave me a lot of confidence to continue with my projects with computer systems, networks and security. I need knowledge from this ICT / Computer science course so I can learn newthings and enhance my current abilities and capacities. I hope I will get some entry level job with whichI could pay my costs of living so I don’t depend on my parents.

Full of enthusiasm I continued to learn as many I could, so this year I started to learn my third foreignlanguage – Chinese. English has become like my mother language over years of reading materials anddoing courses abroad. With German I have difficulties because I learn it only 7 years - with breaks. Inpast 8 years, I’ve been dedicated competito r on many school competitions and contests. Subjects aremainly Math, Physics, computing, programming and culture. Last year I have won first place in categoryof applied arts on National Competition of student houses. I also have over 15 commendation frommore than 8 categories in 5 different subjects.

Finally, reason because I want to leave Croatia and go to study ICT / Computer science in UnitedKingdom is that I think I will learn a lot more in some multi-cultural environment where I will be ableto show what I really know and can do, as well as allow me to gain valuable cultural and socialknowledge.

Everybody loves the rush when you unpack your brand new video game. You enter a new unknownand unexplored world. At first you feel confused and lost, but as time goes by that world becomes your

playground. In that world, you can become whoever you want and achieve your deepest desires. I aminterested in computer game production courses so I can help create new worlds and dimensionswhere people can find joy and fulfilment.

Playing games is a fun experience, but I am also interested in what happens behind the scenes. Gamesdo not make themselves. When you encounter a beautiful vista, a mind-boggling puzzle or a frighteningmonster you are actually encountering manifestations of other people's ideas. This is why I am sopassionate about gaming. Game production is more than just pixels and lines of code, it is a powerfulcreative outlet. Sometimes your creativity can be limited by dimensions, materials or finances. However while making video games you can pin down the last detail you envisioned. You are onlylimited by your own creativity. I have always loved when production companies included a world editorwith their game. That way you can bring your own ideas into light and make your own contribution tothe game you played. Besides playing games casually I also play them competitively, mainly League ofLegends. In 2014 I reached the Challenger rank, the highest possible rank you can achieve awarded toa minuscule percentage of players. Competitive gaming is important because it helps you learn fromyour mistakes and strive to achieve more and it promotes sportsmanship and humbleness.

I chose United Kingdom to pursue higher education for several reasons, one of them being the non-existence of such course in Croatia. I use the English language daily. English almost feels like it is mymother tongue. I have had straight As in English language at the end of each term since the beginningof my education. I have also participated in two county level English language competitions and

finished in the top ten. I believe I am capable of continuing my education in a foreign environment. Ifind both minor and major changes motivating. Studying abroad for me is not an obstacle, but anopportunity to learn and grow. It is like a new level in a video game, you don't know what the futureholds but you must march ahead confident in the skills you have acquired. My gymnasium taught meabout discipline and work ethics. With more than 16 different classes each requiring an equal amountof attention coordination is crucial. I am organised and I manage to do all my assignments in time. Mygymnasium has also given me a broad knowledge of various subjects. In my elementary school Ienrolled in facultative classes of Computer Technology and Robotics which emphasized group projects. In those classes I got introduced to programming, computer science and mechanical engineering. I wascomfortable as both a member of the team and a team leader. Communicating with your teammembers and trusting your intuition guarantees that your team will accomplish its goals. I have furtherfamiliarized myself with programming in my gymnasium.

Gaming for me was just a hobby but I am ready to take it a step further. I am happy while I'm playinggames and I want to create them to make other people happy. Some would say that turning a hobbyinto a job is only dream, but I am willing to pursue that dream because I have the passion, creativityand willpower to do so.

By writing this letter I want to explain my passion for 3D technologies in art, programming andcomputing. After researching college programmes I have found out that UK offers excellent academic

education in this field. The thing I appreciate the most is the option of sandwich programmes andstrong accent on applying acquired knowledge in practical use. This course is my choice because itgives me the possibility to study something that I want to dedicate most of my life to. I can build solidfoundations for further improvement in this and also some other closely related fields. I expect to getanswers on some of my questions and hopefully obtain new questions as well.

While working in several different positions I have developed good communication skills and sense ofteam work. Also I have learned the importance of respecting deadlines and how to handle multipletasks given at the same time. I want to point out three key work positions. First is lab worker incalibration laboratory where I realized that I don’t like to work just to earn money. Secondly, a juniordeveloper, working on casino game for mobile devices, job I have enjoyed very much and where I have

learned basics of object oriented programming in very short period. I was fascinated how programminginfluenced my way of thinking. Currently I’m working as a 3D modeller and designer at ---------- d.o.o.which is a process plants consultant company. Here I’m learning how important 3D can be in oursociety besides being used in art. On this position I have acquired a certificate in basic 3D concurrentintegrated engineering with AVEVA PDMS. I have also found that I enjoy artistic side of 3D much more. After working hours I’m learning on my own by reading article s and news concerning industry and byfollowing many online tutorials. As a result, I have made several smaller projects, like modelling afamous bridge from Ivo Andric’s book “The Bridge on Drina” in detail. I was inspired by descriptionsfrom the book and after I gathered as much information and references as I could and started sketchingand modelling. Generally, I get most inspiration from books and nature. There are also many inspiringpeople throughout history but I want to point out Vincent van Gogh whose art and life I admire and

Leonardo da Vinci who was also a great scientist and has always seen things around him as a whole.Software solutions that I have knowledge of are IntelliJ IDEA (used for OOP in ActionScript 3.0), AdobePhotoshop, The Foundry Modo, Autodesk Maya, Google SketchUp and Blender. I have attended alecture on Blender that was being held in Lauba, Zagreb.

My work experience made me understand that I can contribute to society much more by doingsomething that I love rather than by working just to have a job. My short term goal is to graduate asan honorable student and continue my academic education. I will continue developing skills that arenot covered by this course on my own and hopefully by attending various workshops. In long term Iwant to specialize in a specific area that combines 3D and programming. Maybe something like 3Dprinting, game engines, virtual reality or procedural modelling. My opinion is that this 3D and

software industry is a vital part of global development and I would like to help new people whochoose to work in this field. Studying abroad will be very important to me. Not only that new workand study environment is a great challenge, but I would be able to improve my English skills as wellas working with people from all around the world. I understand basics of Brazilian Portuguese which Ihave learned during practicing Brazilian martial art Capoeira. In spare time I enjoy learning how todraw, photography, observing shapes and textures around me and playing video and social games. Iunderstand that my interests are very wide, but I strongly believe that most of them are very closelyconnected and that they complement each other.

    Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is xy, I was born on 31.03.1997 and live in Croatia. This year I'm graduating from highschooland after a lot of thinking, I decided that I want to go to college abroad. I came across your college andimmediately got interested.

Since I enjoy travelling and learning about new cultures, I've decided that studying outside of my countryis a great idea. I'm attending gymnasium concentrated mostly on learning languages, so that's why Ifluently speak English, and can speak Italian and German and understand Slavic languages such as

Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin. I learned Latin for two years so I'm familiar with it. This is why I'mlooking forward to your language learning opportunities. I'm interested in two courses, BusinessEnterprise and Marketing and Events Management, both connected with economics which I'm intendingto study. But, as mentioned, I live in Croatia, which is unfortunately still in financial crisis and has pooreconomy. This is how I realised the importance and impact of economy on a country and also why I thinkstudying economics in the UK would be a lot smarter and more promising than studying it in Croatia. Both courses seen very interesting to me, Business Enterprise because of the wide range of jobs itprovides after finishing it, and on the other hand Marketing and Events Management which is more andmore popular these days and has a bit more contact with people. In school we have a subject calledpolitics and economy which is so far going great and is very interesting. It really opened my eyes and got

me thinking about situation in my country. I enjoy team work, but also like working individually. I considermyself a good organizer, like to lead projects and keep everybody working together as effective asposible. Last year I participated in a project financed by European Union and it was about risingawareness for acceptance and tolerance of asylum seekers. It was presented all over Croatia and was agreat expirience. In my free time I like reading interesting books, hanging out with my friends and doingsports, such as swimming, which I attended for five years, I went to a tennis camp two years and I alsoenjoy skiing and snowboarding every winter. Having all of this in mind, I consider myself an active andsociable person which I think can help me in future employment ad job seeking.

All in all, I'm sure that I won't regret applying to your college, try to make the best of it and I hope that Iwill contribute to your college as well.

    BUSINESS UCB

    Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is xy, I am an 18 year old girl from Croatia. Currently I am in my final year in secondary schoolof economics and it is time to make one of the most important choices in my life. What to do next? Mydream has always been to continue my education abroad. Because I love learning about new cultures, meeting new people and trying different life styles. But through my life I thought that studying inanother country was just one of my wishes which are almost impossible to complete. This howeverchanged when I attended a presentation about UCB in Varaždin and I was I blown away by all thepossibilities that you have to offer to your students. That day I made a decision, I will do everything inmy power to get accepted to your university.

For me it is very important to choose a profession which I'm going to enjoy, be the best I can be andthat will give me new challenges that I will overcome and learn from. So I have made up my mind tostudy marketing with event management because there is a wide range of jobs I could do. I find it veryinteresting how the idea of an event comes to life, and how much every detail is important for theoverall picture. Also for marketing it is very important to see what your advantages are and how tomake the most of them, but also have in mind your disadvantages and how to avoid them. The otherarea I am interested in is business enterprise because there is a big competition in businessenvironment and I have always had a lot of ideas in my mind, since I was a little girl, that make medifferent from others, also in my education I have had classes about business, legal environment ofbusiness, marketing service and I have always been at the top of my class, I have knowledge andunderstanding about these topics which would help me a lot in my studies. We had a subject which iscalled a trial company, where I held the position of director, and in which I got an excellent opportunityto put my knowledge into practice, and to see where theory works and more important where not.Such a trial company also gave me a glimp of an impression of a possible later job, where I immediatelyfound out what suits me and what aspects are in harmony with my. character.

I am very involved in life of my high school as a member of our students council, we organise variousevents through the school year, like lectures about business, but also a Christmas show. When therewere big floods in Croatia we organised donations of food and clothes which we sent to places thathave been the most affected by floods. I also t ook part in a project „Sight to me“ in which we wantedto raise awareness about the situations in everyday life that people with sight problems havedifficulties with. For me it is very important to be a part of the community and to help the ones whoare in need, I have been blessed with health and a good life and that is my way of doing something inreturn. I have been learning English and Spanish outside school, my love for languages is one of thereasons why I find your university so appealing, I'm thrilled about your options to study languages andthe fact that you have a lot of foreign students.

Why would I be a great addition to your university? I take my education very seriously and I am awarethat I will have to invest a lot of time and energy into it. I am very communicative and I love to workwith people, I have good leadership qualities and I am always open minded, I can focus on what isrelevant and do not waste my time on irrelevant things, giving up is not an option for me because Iknow I can do everything I put my mind to. My motto is that hard work and consistency can take meanywhere I want. I believe that you would push me to my limits and bring out the best in me, so I couldleave my mark in society and build a successful career. That is why I turn to you with the hope that youwill consider my proposal and allow me to study at your university.

    INDUSTRY AND MANAGEMENT

My name is xy, I am 17 years old and I will graduate from high school in Rijeka, Croatia this May. Myfour-year high school education has formed me into a person who I want to become: my life's desires

are now clear, more concrete and I feel I can easily decide my future life and career.

The global economic crisis has affected Croatia, and many different countries all around the worldsignificantly and has made me realize that a successful business management would play a crucial rolein economic and social recovery. On the other hand, I have always been drawn to the complexity ofthe interpersonal relations on all levels from family to school and friendships. I have realized theimportance of managing people and the benefits that successful and respected individuals can bringto any company or business environment. It seems to me that in today’s capitalist world the quest for money has become a priority while the well-being of the individual and the importance of strong andhealthy human relations have been neglected, and I would like to change that in the future. Therefore,I came to realize I would like to steward my future career towards human resource management.

My dream has always been to study abroad, mainly because I wanted to meet new people fromdifferent social and cultural backgrounds. Last summer, I have spent two weeks in summer school atthe Southbank University in London. It was a valuable experience that has enabled me to improve mylanguage skills, meet new people and explore a different culture than my own. I was enchanted bytheir spontaneity and attentiveness. Thus I have decided to pursue graduate studies in the UnitedKingdom and I would like to be part of the graduate program at your institution. During my high schooleducation I gained a lot of knowledge from many different areas and I believe I have a very goodworking habit needed for further education at your university.

Aside from my academic prowess, I have been developing my language skills: I am fluent in English,Italian and German and I have studied Russian for a while. My extra curriculum activities during highschool included helping my mother in her hair salon where I have formed healthy working habits andpracticed working with people.

Furthermore, I am passionate about sports and healthy living – I maintain a healthy lifestyle for Ibelieve it’s important. Music and dance are something I also enjoy in.

In conclusion, I would appreciate if you would consider my application. I am looking forward toreceiving your response and hopefully being a part of your university.

    With regards,

    MANAGEMENT 1

My name is xy and I come from Cakovec, a small town in Croatia. It's always been my desire to studyabroad, especially the UK. As the time to make an important decision came, which will enormously

affect my future, I realised that it was the perfect time to take the chance and step in the outside worldin order to achieve something more, something bigger. For a long period of time I was interested inmanagement, marketing, advertising and public relations. The interest in those areas of business hasn'tfaded away, moreover, it has grown bigger and I'm now sure I want my life to go in that direction.Although I have the opportunity to study these courses in Croatia too, I chose your university becauseI believe your program of study itself is far better. I know it could provide me with greater knowledgeand experience and give more opportunities to develop and progress.

From very young age I wanted to try a lot of new things and was trying to do my best. Although Istudied English and German language at primary school, I attended extra courses of English because Ifell in love with the language. Alongside attending the primary school, I also attended music school. Iplayed the piano and found my secret affection for music too. Therefore, I spent my free time singingin the church and school choir. When I was little bit older, I took up acting in our school drama club.Owing to acting and singing, not only I learned how to come out and feel confident in front of a largegroup of people but also how to focus, cooperate with others, be precise and control your voice andbody. I became a member of our school's council. This was a beneficial experience as I gainedknowledge in dealing with problems, suggesting ideas for improvement and actively participating indiscussions. Shortly after, I got elected for the president of the school council. It required responsibilityand devotion to the work.

As I passed primary school with flying colours, I could enrol at grammar school. Although attendinggrammar school required more studying, I managed to make time for competitions in English languageand school choir. The most unforgettable thing about participating in school choir was the time when

we competed in national television show. It was a great experience because it enabled me to see howentertainment industry works. I eyewitnessed the organisation and functioning of such an event, whichwas really awe-inspiring. I was able to see the working process of choreographers, costume designers, makeup artists, hosts, cameramen, set designers, composers, producers, directors and all other peoplehelping the project. In grammar school I studied Latin and Franch and had additional classes of Englishand German. Moreover, thanks to my mother's roots, I can speak Slovenian too. Being able to speak alot of languages impresses me, hence I would like to learn one or two more. Also, in order to prove myknowledge in English, I'm taking CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) on March, 14.

Through the years, I've learned it needs a lot of hard work and optimism in order to succeed. I havealways been very persistant in solving the problems and passionate about the things I like. A lot ofpeople say I'm a perfectionist, but I also know I'm ambitious and responsible, tolerant, outgoing andhappy to help others. In future, I would like to travel a lot and get familiar with new cultures. That isalso one of the reasons I chose studying in the UK. Equally important, I chose your university becauseI know it will form me into the independant, intelligent person and give me the knowledge andexperience I will treat with respect. I think that we are all creators of our own future. If you give methe chance to study at your university, it would just be a proof that everything is possible and I promiseyou nothing but the hard work and gratitude. I would do my best and it would be my pleasure to studyat your university.

Hoping to get your affirmative answer and becoming part of your university,

Ever since I started thinking about my future I knew I would be leaving my home country. I am ahardworking active person, who likes learning new things that I can put to practical use and this is why

I am interested in studying and pursuing a career in the UK. What inspires me most about the idea ofgoing to university in Britain is the chance to meet new people and to be in a different environmentwhich I feel would help me grow as a person. The more I found out about higher education in the UKfrom my twin brother who is currently studying at UCB, the internet and from presentations onstudying abroad given at my school, I know that this is the perfect choice for me. Furthermore, it hasbeen one of my great wishes to open up a sort of alternative outdoor adventure camp in the futureand I’m super excited to develop this idea.

I have always been interested in travel and studying abroad offers better opportunities to do so, as Iam interested in studying tourism related courses. I‘ve changed several summertime jobs throughwhich I’ve gained experience in the field of tourism and service branches, including vo lunteering at thelocal zip line and working in numerous hotel resorts in Vrsar and Poreč. The contact with many touristsgave me a chance to improve my language (especially English and German) and people skills. Since Iconsider myself to be a natural helper and enjoy seeing people being pleased with my services it gaveme a bust to make tourism my future educational path. Having always lived in a holiday destinationcountry I feel that I have a firm foundation for the studies of tourism, especially InternationalAdventure Travel Management seeing as I love excitement and discovering new things particularly inthe outdoors.

For the last 6 years I’ve been a member of a youth society (“Klub Mladih Pazin”), a group led andorganized by teens and young adults in our town. Here I’ve had the opportunity to organize manyconcerts in which local bands performed and participate in projects from putting on food drives tohiking to the Učka Mountains (“Marš na Učku”). Last year I partook in the “Our Lake” campaign. F or

months we gathered signatures and did peaceful protests and managed to stop the construction of anartificial canal. On our own initiative, a few of us from the society built our own makeshift skate parkin which we spent hours riding our BMX bikes and having fun. Apart from this I like to spend my freetime doing all kinds of exciting different sports from football to rock-climbing; playing basketball gaveme the opportunity to travel to Slovenia, Austria and Italy and win numerous medals and achievementsas a part of the local team (“KK Puris Pazin”). I also qualified for the regional basketball team.Considering I have experience in sports, exercise and outdoor activities, Exercise, Health and Wellnesscourse would also be a great choice for my future career.

In addition to my deep understanding of the English language I have also studied German in highschool, and have a fairly good understanding of Italian, both of which I am keen to expand on if I getthe chance. Overall, if given the chance to study in the UK, to move away from my home and start anew life abroad where I would discover new cultures, experience new challenges and be surroundedby inspiring people, I am very much prepared, excited and looking forward to this amazing educationaland life adventure with a great desire to finish my course successfully, gather the necessary skills andknowledge and collect new ideas for my future life career.

    MANAGEMENT UCB

Hello, my name is xy, I am 18 years old and I come from Croatia. Although I love Croatia and all myfamily members and friends live here, I realized there's no future for me here. The rate of

unemployment is 17,3% which is the highest in European Union and just today I read an article thatsays there will be no progress in next 4-5 years and maybe longer. I have many friends who graduatedfrom college and have no job, they have to live of their parents or they're working for a minimum wage(app. 200 £ per month). I do not want to be one of them, I want to change my future, provide betterfuture for myself. What better way for me to do that, then to get the best education possible.

Since I was a kid I have liked to travel and meet new people. I was always interested in other culturesand I used every opportunity to travel and explore other countries. Living in tourist country I realizedhow much can be achieved with right education and knowledge to move forward, to develop andcreate. When I was in primary school I went on exchange in Austria, where I met many amazing peopleand learnt a lot. That experience made me realize just how much I want to now. So when I got theopportunity to participate in 2012 Youth in Action program in Portugal, founded by European Union Igratefully accepted. The program name was TC Eye Opener Portugal 2012 and it taught me how I canchange the world and how to participate in its growing. That is why I always liked languages. I felt thatlearning someones language gets you closer to him/her. I have been learning English since I was inkindergarten and German for 10 years. In high school I am learning Ancient Greek and Latin, whichhelps me to understand basics of many languages and I think I would not have problem a learning newlanguages. Especially when I want to learn as many as I can.

I have always been creative and loved making jewelry, sculptures… drawing, writing, painting… WhenI am anxious, mad or scared I take piece of paper and draw. When my mind feels too full, I take coloursand paint. My mum discovered that creative side of me when I was a kid and she enrolled me in Artschool in kindergarten. At the age of 11 I went to audition for LIADO which stands for Art workshop for

gifted primary schoolers, I went there untill the end of my primary school. My art works have beensent to many competition and I won 2 of them. When I entered high school I joined its art group. Theteacher is amazing, she is very creative and supports us in many ways.

Although I am not comfortable speaking in front of a crowd I am great behind the scenes. I helped toorganize many events in primary and secondary school. Just last year, affected by floods in our andneighbouring countries, I helped to organize charity concert and bake sale, all the money we gatheredwas sent to people who lost their homes, everything they ever had. The feeling that I helped insomething so big was amazing and at that time I realized how completed I was feeling. Organizing andplanning that event made me happy. There were few bumps on the road, but with great people, enthusiasm and creativity it was an amazing event. That’s the reason why this year we are organizingsomething more challenging: a theatre performance. I will be helping with organization and withcostumes, hair and make up. I have no doubt it will be an amazing event.

Since I am at the end of my secondary school I have many decisions to make . I believe that Your collegeis the right choice to continue my education. Applying for UCB has been one of the gravest and greatestdecisions I have ever made. I am looking forward to continuing my education in England. Looking atYour college program and comments from your students I realized how much I will learn and how muchI will miss if I don’t get in. Graduating from grammar school will give me a lot of knowledge that shouldbe put to use and not wasted. I want to succeed in life, I want to be able to stand on my own feet, Idon’t want to be a burden and I hope you will help me to become successful. I know there is a longroad ahead of me and I am happy there is because, in life, nothing is handed to you on a silver platter.I am looking forward to your reply!

    MARKETING

    Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is xxxx, and this year I’ll graduate from secondary school in Zagreb, Croatia andcontinue my life path at a University that would give me the opportunity to learn and prosperas a person. I think that University College of Birmingham is everything I ever wanted of auniversity and I am very excited to submit my application. I am especially impressed with yourmarketing program because there is not a single public university in my country offeringknowledge in this field of expertise.

I grew up with a passion for different cultures and English language. My parents have alwaystaught me and my sister, to accept new challenges, languages and mentalities, but to take thebest of what the modern world can offer. I am so glad I was raised this way, because, in orderto feel confident and passionate about anything, one has to be open minded and optimistic.

I’ve always been a good student and my eagerness to study abroad has always kept memotivated to work even harder. I really like studying and that is why it took me a long time tofinally decide what I would like to major in. That was because our school curriculum is quiteextensive and only a few teachers help us realise what our strengths and weaknesses are.About 3 years ago I started my You tube channel “TheTeenOpinion” which is beauty oriented. That might seem like a very shallow topic to dedicate a whole channel to, but it was the mostimportant step I have done in my life so far.

I spent my childhood playing all sorts of sports (handball, athletics, dancing etc.), and I evenplayed the cello for 5 years at a local music school. Even in high school I joined the debateteam and that has definitely helped my public speaking skills. I had the honour to be one ofthe peer guides on the “Anne Fr ank- History for understanding” exhibition in the Museum ofContemporary Art, Zagreb. All of the hobbies I’ve done have definitely shaped me into theperson I am today but my YouTube channel has done the most in helping me decide what Iwould love to do for the rest of my education and career.

It took a lot of courage to step in front of the camera and start filming in English because atthat time my self-esteem was quite low and it felt odd sitting in front of the camera and talkingto myself. Now, I look back at it with a huge smile on my face because after a few years myEnglish skills have improved so much, and now I have over 11 000 subscribers who feel thesame way about me as I felt about all of the wonderful women I had been watching ever sinceI was 9.

I have also learned a lot about video editing and filming because I do that on my own and nowI can spend hours or even days editing just one tutorial until I get it perfect. I think that goodquality also attracts a lot of new viewers.

In November 2013, I got the chance to become a YouTube partner, which helped me to get afeel of how much difference a good advertisement can make for a product. Today, I get manye-mails from companies asking me to advertise their products on my channel and blog. I hardlyever say yes to those companies because , in my opinion, it’s really important not to

recommend anything on my channel that I wouldn’t personally spend my own money on andI think that my viewers can feel that. I know a lot of fellow youtubers who lost a significantnumber of followers because all they did was filming sponsored videos.

I find it incredible how influential Internet is today and I would love to learn more about it.

I am used to working hard on my education and that is what I enjoy most. Being accepted tothis program would give me the opportunity to fulfil my dreams an d present this school’sname in the best light.

If accepted, I would appreciate this opportunity and justify your trust. Sincerely hoping thatyou will answer my application positively I send my kindest regards.

    NUTRITION AND FOOD MANAGEMENT

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying for the Bachelor Degree programme I found on the Internet while researching for theone most fitting to my profession. Being open-minded about the healthy way of life and food creativitysince my early years, as a very young person I started researching their health benefits. Furthermore, the modern food culture and the associated lack of information drives me toward the field of Nutrition.

I am convinced that these programs are the right choice for me to improve my nutritional knowledgeand techniques ,

Trough my high school vocational education (Technician in the field of Nutrition) I gained knowledgeabout the characteristics of different groups of products, specific diets for particular age groups andcomposure of diet plans for different profiles of people. Working in a laboratory constituted the

practical part of my education in the fields of General and Organic Chemistry, Microbiology andGrocery Quality Control which encouraged me tu pursue further professional improvement.

Therefore my ambition did not stop at accomplishing regular tasks in school. I was interested in myprofessional future so I took the initiative and volunteered at the Health and Beauty Trade Fair andvisited the leading Croatian food Companies (Podravka,Kras,Frank...) as well as many smallercompanies, which was very rewarding. I also strived for excellence with the Istrian Green Plate Projectheld in cooperation with the Croatian Institute of Public Health, the goal of which was to educateyoung people about the importance of proper nutrition and its effect on their health and life. Being apart of the aptly named Young Nutritionists Team and having our project covered at the national

television meant a positive and successful outcome for my professional and personal development.

Regarding the intensive and competitive programme awaiting me, I have no concern about therequirements needed to successfully navigate the curriculum, as I am convinced I am extremelymotivated and hard working. Also, it would be my pleasure, if I can get a chance to meet people fromall over the world, just like me, with the same interests, but different points of view.

    Yours sincerely,

    xy

    TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY

As the time came for start planning my future and to make a serious decision about how I'm going to

contribute not only to society but also to my own self-fulfillment, I began doing a lot of research which,in the end, led me to cognition that studying abroad isn't so hard as it seems, and that it's a greatchance to step in the outside world that contains larger scale of possibilities. In my opinion, the bestway that I can represent myself is by introducing you with my previous experiences, ambitions and mypast in general. Living in a small town of Porec, where main activity is tourism and hospitality, I wasexposed to a great deal of different services that tourism offers. In that way I realized how importantit is to make people feel comfortable when they come on holiday looking for a good rest or seeking foradventures and knowledge. First thing that comes to my mind when I try to make a short descriptionof me is my lustful desire for travelling. As a child, my parents were always taking me on travels withthem and that's how I became more and more eager for absorbing other cultures' beatuies and

diversities. That had a massive impact on my personality, making me an open-minded person, easilyadaptable to new situiations and capable of finding creative solutions when it comes to dealing withproblems. When I visited London last spring, it made me even more curious about living and studyingin the UK, seeing all those possibilities at one place, I had an adrenaline rush because I knew exactlywhat I wanted and that I'm going to bring that idea to existence somehow. Second thing that alwayshad a hold on me are languages. For now, I'm fluent only in two languages (Croatian and English), butI also speak Italian very well, and understand a lot of Spanish. In near future, I'd like to take additionallanguage courses to improve that field of skills. Some of my achievements include art and photography. In my free time I like to take photos, and so last year I won first place in a photography competition inPorec which was a great experience. I also spent two years at art workshop, making famous painting'sreplicas, learning all kinds of drawing techniques, and developing my creativity. This year I finishedhigh school in Pazin, a town in the center of Istria, where I made new friendships, participated inorganizing events for acting crew and in a humanitarian action named 'Comenius project' for childrenin Africa which brought large amount of students from all around the Europe to Pazin so we all togethertried to manage effecitve ways of raising money for helping Africa's children. That's a result of mywillingness to help others and to make them feel satisfied, because that's our duty as humans, to helpeach other out. Nowadays people are always in a hurry, neglecting their physical and emotional needs, putting themselves in a risk of getting serious diseases, and because of that there should be moreinstitutions such as spa and wellness to offer relaxing treatments, and I feel as suitable person for

taking course of Spa Management which I also applied. Overall, I think that by giving me the chanceto study one of your courses I've chosen, you'd make me a really content person with high motivationto do all the best that I can with something that I love, which is the most powerful combination forproductivness.

    TOURISM AND MANAGEMENT

Hello, my name is xy but for the simplicity of things you can call me T. In my opinion everybody is goodat something, some are better than others but that doesn’t make them less valuable. They say there

are two types of people, people who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplishedthings. Thankfully I belong in the first group.

To briefly tell you something about myself I’m 18, I’m currently a senior in high school, I speak two

languages, I’ve visited approximately around ten countries in my years’ time. In the last few years I’vebeen through a lot, good and bad, but now I find myself on the biggest crossroad of my life. What todo and where to go after high school? Well I guess luck has been on my side because I stumbled ontoyou. To be completely honest with you before this year I’ve never heard of UCB, but now I’m glad I did

just in time to apply. I’m positive I can see my future education growing in your college. So that is thereason I chose you, I just hope you will choose me too. When you’re 18 you’re not quite sure what to

do with your life, but luckily for me I know. There are some people that are good at singing, sports, writing, paining, etc. I on the other hand, I’m good at organizing. I was told to choose 5 courses sothat’s what I did. My choices are: Events management, Hospitality and tourism management,Adventure tourism management, Marketing with events management and Food and consumermanagement. As you can see my main goal is to have a degree in management, because out of this 5choices I wouldn’t mind getting into any of them, but of course I have my top favorites. Evensmanagement and Hospitality and tourism management are the top two strictly because I loveorganizing get-toget hers, happenings and other kind of gatherings. I’m not the kind of person that likesthe spotlight too much, so to be able to do something that people would enjoy and like, and to watcheverything happening from the side makes these two courses the perfect choice and preferably aperfect job in the future. I’m aware it’s not all rainbows and butterflies but I believe that if you findyour interest in something, and if you’re sure that it’s the perfect job for you, you have to take a leapof faith, work hard and hope that in the end things will turn out the way you wanted them to. My thirdchoice is Adventure tourism management because lets be serious any job can from time to time get akind of boring, but traveling to new countries, meeting new people, getting to know new culturesmakes it not only adventures and exciting but instructive, beautiful and amazing.

Everybody has their dream, but as we grow older that dream grows with us. That being said my dreamalso changed, I no longer want to be a princess or a ballerina, I want to have a job that makes mehappy, I want to have a family to look after to, I want to make this life matter because although yolo isbeing used for every irrelevant thing now it’s true, we do only live once so why not make the best of it. I’m aware that it’s going to be harder since English is not my native language, but I’m willing to tryand work as long as you are willing to take a chance with me.

    CHILDHOOD STUDIES

My name is xy, I'm 19 years old and I'm unique. There are 7 billion people in the world and we're allspecial in our own way and with something we contribute for the Planet. If we're all the same world

will be boring and because of that everyone has their own interests and attitudes. Differences arewealthiness of every society and every country.

Job is one of the most important things in life and we are talking about it since childhood. When I wasa little girl, I felt a strong call for taking care of children. I learned a lot from my instructors and I admiredthem. Because of that my first choice is Childhood studies, early years. When I'm with kids I feelcomplete, happy and free. I think I'm the right person for that job. My second choice is Youth, community and families because I'm interested in work with young people and I want to conservatefamily values and harmony. Third choice is culinary arts management because I'd like to learn how tocook for my future family. Food is also my big pleasure. My fourth choice is sports therapy because it

is helping people in need. I really love helping others, it gives me happines and joy. Fifth choice is SPAmanagement because it is perspective and interesting job. It promoves healthy life and care of bodywhich is more and more attractive to young people. I graduated from gymnasium for what I think gaveme enough base for studying at named courses. My high school professors influenced at my choicebecause they encouraged us to follow bravely our dreams. I think this college is complicated andadjusted for the students. Interesting is that there is a lot of practice which lightens up studying. Forfinishing this college takes a lot of effort and my will and persistence, which I have, and I'm ready tocarry on with that challenges. My contribution to the college I can see in my persistence and ambition.I consider that my healthy thinking and values will be to me and professors in bothway pleasure. Infree time I was taking care of my little cousins and I learned a lot. Enjoying in that show me how I'minterested in working with children and young. In that situations I show big willingness andresponsibility. In the future I'd love to open my private kindergarden because that will be two thingsin one, first my dream come true and second profit, without it life is not possible. I think my skills, practice and knowledge acquired at that courses will enable me to be successful and satisfied youngperson. For UCB I heard recently and it overwhelmed me it is my big life opportunity. I want to studyin England because it's very beautiful country with a lot of natural and social beauties. People are nice, communicative and with nice maners. It gives great possibillities of education and sharpening skills foryoung people. Basics of english I got in my primary school and my high school. College I apply for givesgreat possibillities of improving english language for international students which will help me for finish

my wanted course and I'm really greatfull for that.

My aim in life is finish my school, establish a family and be successful young person. Because of that Iconsidere that UCB is the right college for my education and later employment. If it is good as it'spresented in Croatia it sure is the right choice. I'm really trully excited and enthusiastic about studyingthese courses, especially working with children because that will be my dream come true for which I'mready fight for and overcome obstacles to succeed in life.

    CRIMINOLOGY

Why did I choose England as a country I would like to study in. Well, since I was young I train kickboxing. That is a sport that created me as a person with goals in life, spirituality it made me a good person

open minded. As I get older I have a different point of view. My life goals and my ambitions make mego harder, what I wish it has to be done. I promised myself I will study hard, give everything I can, so Ican be proud of and success in my life. In this letter I have to write about myself.

I go to Medical school for a laboratory tehnical. School taught me about life, how hard is it to get whatyou want, but also that that’s all possible if you study hard. Its all about you. It alsotaught me about order, work and discipline and I'm thankful for that. I consider myself as a personwho will help other who’s help is necessary. I like to think about the problem I have. I don’t run awaybecause I know that sooner or later it will catch me. My problem now is my future, so I had to make achoice. If I stay in my Country which is beautiful if I may say, but in economical crises, I will not achievedwhat I wished all my life. My dream is to stop criminal, save someone’s life and work for the Country Ilive in so I can contribute to her . I always ask myself what is in people’s minds before they dosomething like that. Is there any reasonable explanation. I think that, for that kind of job you have tobe able to get into people’s mind, try to understand them, be in their position so you can trough themget an answer . I think every move, every expression on their faces, every proof is important to get theperson who done it and satisfy the victims family, giving them hope so they can believe us and give uspotential to get those kind of people in front of a law. They have to be punished for what they havedone. I’m a young girl, who watches a lot of movies and serials based on crime but, when you seesomething like that, I don’t consider that just as a movie I’m conscious that’s the reality. So, this is why

You can give me a chance to study and train for something I really wish for. I have promised myselfand I really think I can, it’s on You if You will give me a chance to prove it!

    SOCIOLOGY

In this letter I would like to express my passion concerning fields of sociology, psychology andcriminology. Even though my interest in these subjects started during my secondary school education,

it took me few years to develop myself as a person and understand what really moves me in life.Throughout vario us daily situations I find myself observing other people’s behaviour, interactionsamong them and ways they react in certain situations. I am especially fascinated with society itself andits influence on the life of individual.

A valuable experience that helped me discover my passion was a position of special needs teachingassistant in elementary school. I was in charge for 10 year old twin boys with cerebral palsy. This jobshowed me an insight on children development and how they fit in among each other. It gave me anopportunity to observe the situations that affected attitudes and behaviour of each child. I wasespecially interested in few children who were showing aspects of deviant behaviour. Questions and

thoughts were just coming in my mind. What motivates them to behave like that? Is that a result oftheir genetic heritage, their family and home environment, influence of general society or all of thatcombined? Eventually my interest went beyond children’s delinquency to a broader aspects ofcriminology. I became passionate about discovering social and psychological factors that provokepeople to commit crime. I want to learn how and why crime functions. Very soon I have started readingprofessional articles and books and attending some open lectures. I got a chance to volunteer at theCongress of Croatian Sociological Association where I have met some lecturers and sociologists whogave me directions and encouraged my motivation for study. Studying social sciences opens upperson’s mind to understa nd a larger picture and how everything around us is connected. Sociology, psychology and criminology are sciences that intertwine with
