3. Transport and storage .Transport to place of installation in sturdy packing..Do not attach ropes or hooks to the handwheel for the purpose of lifting byhoist.. If multi-turn actuator is mounted on valve, attach ropes or hooks for thepurpose of lifting by hoist to valve and not to multi-turn actuator..Store in well-ventilated, dry room..Protect against floor dampness by storage on a shelf or on a woodenpallet..Cover to protect against dust and dirt..Apply suitable corrosion protection agent to unfinished surfaces.

If multi-turn actuators are to be stored for a long time (more than 6 months),the following points must be observed additionally:

.Prior to storage: Protect unfinished surfaces, especially of output driveparts and mounting surface with long-term corrosion protection agent..Check for corrosion approximately every 6 months. If first signs ofcorrosion show, apply new corrosion protection.

After mounting, connect actuator immediately to electrical system, so thatcondensation is prevented by the heater.

4. Mounting to valve / gearbox

.Prior to mounting the multi-turn actuator must be checkedfor damage..Damaged parts must be replaced by original spare parts.

The easiest position for mounting is when the valve shaft / gearbox shaftpoints upright. But mounting can be done in any other position as well.

The multi-turn actuator is delivered ex works in position CLOSED (limitswitch CLOSED tripped).

.Check if mounting flange fits the valve/gearbox.

Spigot at flanges should be loose fit!

For output drive type A (figure A), thread must match valve stem. If not or-dered explicitly with threads, stem nut is unbored or with pilot bore when de-livered. Finish machining of stem nut refer to page 7.

5. Manual operation Manual operation may only be engaged when motor is notrunning. Switching over while motor is running can lead todamage at multi-turn actuator (figure C)!

.Lift change-over lever in the center of the handwheel up to max. 85°, whileslightly turning the handwheel until manual operation enganges (figure D).

Manual force is sufficient for operating the change-overlever. Using an extension is neither necessary norpermitted. If too much force is applied, this may damage thechange-over mechanism.

.Release change-over lever (snaps back into initial position by springaction). If change-over lever does not snap back, assist with hand, so thatchange-over lever is brought back into initial position (figure E).

.Manual operation remains engaged until motor is started again. Thenmotor operation is engaged automatically.

. Turn handwheel into desired direction (figure F).

Only operate manually when change-over lever is in initialposition!

.Manual operation is automatically disengaged when motor is started

6. Electrical connection Work on the electrical system or equipment must only becarried out by a skilled electrician himself or by speciallyinstructed personnel under the control and supervision ofsuch an electrician and in accordance with the applicableelectrical engineering rules.

AUMA actuators SARV are operated by the electronic controlsAUMA VARIOMATIC. The controls may either be mounted di-rectly to the actuator or to a separate wall bracket.

The electrical connection to the power supply is made at aplug / socket connector with screw cable terminations asstandard.

When installing the AUMA VARIOMATIC on a wall bracket, ob-serve the following points:1) For position feedback an electronic position transmitter

(RWG) in 3-wire system must be used.2) For the connection of actuator and AUMARVARIOMATIC on

wall bracket, use additionally suitable flexible and screenedconnecting cables.

3) The max. permissible cable length between multi-turnactuator and AUMA VARIOMATIC is 25 m.

.Check if type of current, supply voltage and frequencycorrespond to motor data (refer to motor name plate)..Remove plug cover (AUMA plug / socket connector)(figure G)..Loosen screws and remove socket carrier from plugcover.. Insert cable glands suitable for connecting cables.

.Enclosure protection IP 67 is only ensured if suitablecable glands are used.

.Connect cables according to order related wiring diagram CI S. . . KMS14TP . . .. The wiring diagram belonging to the actuator is attached to thehandwheel in a weather-proof bag, together with the operationinstructions. In case the wiring diagram is not available, it can be obtainedfrom AUMA (state commission no., refer to name plate).Cross sectional areas: controls cables max. 2,5 mm2,

power supply max. 6 mm2..Connect heater via external voltage source so that condensation isprevented..Only the same potential can be switched through the two circuits of theswitch. Different potentials require tandem switches.Versions with gold-plated microswitches (option) may only be loaded withsmall voltages (50 V DC / 400 mA).

.The valve manufacturer specifies whether switching off in the endpositions should be via limit switch (limit seating) or torque switch(torque seating).

.For the connection of position transmitters (potentiometers) screenedcables must be used.. Insert socket carrier and fasten..Clean sealing faces at plug cover, terminal compartment cover and checkif O-ring is o.k.. Apply a thin film of non-acidic grease (e.g. Vaseline) tothe sealing faces..Place cover and fasten 4 bolts evenly crosswise..Fasten cable glands securely to ensure enclosure protection IP 67.

10. Setting of torque switching

.Set torque must suit the valve!.When multi-turn actuator is delivered by a valvemanufacturer, setting was made during testing..This setting should only be changed with the consent ofthe valve manufacturer!

.Loosen both lock screws O at the torque dial (figure K)..Turn torque dial (P) to set it to the required torque (1 da Nm = 10 Nm).Example:Figure K shows the following setting:

3,5 da Nm = 35 Nm for direction CLOSE3,5 da Nm = 35 Nm for direction OPEN.Tighten lock screws O again

.The torque switches can also be operated in manualoperation. When appropriately controlled electrically, thetripping of the torque switch is stored and thus anelectrical start in a specific direction is prevented..The torque switching acts as overload protection over fulltravel, also when stopping in the end positions by limitswitch.

. If applicable, press indicator disc on shaft and perform setting asdescribed under clause 11, page 14..Clean sealing faces at cover and housing; check if O-ring is in goodcondition. 16.2 Setting of the operating time via the speed-interface board (option)

(refer to order-related wiring diagram CI S...KMS 14TP...)With the speed-interface board the operating time (speed) can also bepre-determined through an external signal, either analogue (command sig-nal E3 = 0 - 20 mA or 4 - 20 mA) or binary (command signal n1, n2).

The simultaneous use of the analogue and the digitaloperating time set signal is not possible!

.Loosen 4 screws (8.1) and remove cover (figure U, page 23)..The speed-interface board (figure W) is situated directly above the logicboard. Depending on the version (with or without positioner), remove theboards above it (cover plate, positioner board and additional board).

Settingon logic board:

.Check on the logic board whether the DIP switch S1, pos. 7 (nominaloutput speed) is in position ”OFF”. If necessary, correct the switch position(see clause 14, pages 18/19)..Set the potentiometer ”OPERATING TIME” (figure V, page 23) on thelogic board to the fully clockwise position (max. speed) to make use of theentire range of operating time. If the minimal operating time (max. speed)has to be limited to a higher value as the operating time possible by theactuator (see technical data sheet), set potentiometer to this value (e.g. toavoid water hammer).

Setting on thespeed-interface board:

When using the option positioner (see clause 15, page 20) set the selectorswitch S2-2.2 (figure W) on the speed-interface board to position‘positioner’. For all other versions the switch S2-2.2 has to be set to position‘speed-interface board’.

Analoguenominal operating time E3:

The analogue operating time range E3 (refer to wiring diagram CI S...KMS14TP...) can be set with the switch S1-2.2 (figure W) to either 0 - 20 mA or4 - 20 mA.After a change, adjustment of the max. value (20 mA) is necessary. The adjustment is performed as follows:.Connection of 24 V DC +/- 10 % to the analogue input of the

speed-interface board (see wiring diagram CI S...KMS 14TP...)max. current input ≤ 30mA.Connection of 20 mA at nominal operating time E3 of the speed-interfaceboard (see wiring diagram CI S...KMS 14TP...).Measure voltage between MP1 and MP2 (figure W)..Adjust the voltage to 10,00 V +/- 0,01 V by using the potentiometer R16(figure W).

Binarynominal operating n1, n2

Two inputs are available for the setting of the operating time via binary sig-nals.The adjustment of the two operating times is performed as follows:Control of the binary nominal operating time n1 by.Connection of 24 V DC to the binary input n1 of the speed-interface board

(see wiring diagram CI S...KMS 14TP...)A visual check of the connected signal with LED V4 is possible (figure W)..The setting of the operating time is done via potentiometer R9 (figure W),clockwise rotations equals higher speed = shorter operating time.

Control of the binary nominal operating time n2 by.Connection of 24 V DC to the binary input n2 of the speed-interface board(see wiring diagram CI S...KMS 14TP...)A visual check of the connected signal with LED V6 is possible (figure W)..The setting of the operating time is done via potentiometer R10 (figureW), clockwise rotations equals higher speed = shorter operating time.

.During simultaneous control of n1 and n2, the shortestoperating time has priority..Without control of n1 and n2, the max. operating time isavailable.

.When operated via local controls, the actuator always runswith max. speed (shortest operating time)..Control of the set speed (operating time) is only possiblevia REMOTE commands.

16.3 Further functions of the speed-interface board in conjunction with the positioner (option)

.Remote change-over of the nominal operating time

This function is only possible in combination with theanalogue or binary nominal operating time (selector switchS2-2.2 in position ‘positioner’, figure W).

The nominal operating time can be changed between theoperating time determined by the positioner and by the customer via thespeed-interface board with a + 24 V DC signal from Remote.

.Change-over AUTO/REMOTE

The positioner can be completely switched off remotely with a + 24 V DCsignal. This permits the use of the binary control signals (OPEN, STOP,CLOSE) in conjunction with the analogue or digital nominal output speed.

1) The binary control signals must be externally deactivated(customer) as long as the positioner is active.

2) This function is only possible in combination with theanalogue or binary nominal operating time (selectorswitch S2-2.2 in position ‘positioner’, figure W, page 24).

3) If there is no external signal connected, the actuator runswith its slowest speed (i.e. its longest operating time).

19. Maintenance After commissioning, check for damages on paint of multi-turn actuator. Doa thorough touch-up to prevent corrosion. Original paint in small quantitiescan be supplied by AUMA.

AUMA multi-turn actuators require very little maintenance.Precondition for reliable service is correct commissioning.

Seals made of elastomers are subject to aging and must therefore regularlybe checked and, if necessary, exchanged.

It is also very important that the O-rings at the covers are placed correctlyand cable glands fastened firmly to prevent ingress of dirt or water.

We recommend:

. If operated seldom, perform a test run about every 6 months. This assuresthat the actuator is always ready to operate..Approximately six months after commissioning and then every year checkbolts between actuator and valve/gearbox for tightness. If required,re-tighten applying the torques given in table 1, page 7..At intervals of approx. 6 months press in several squirts of ball bearinggrease at the lubrication nipple with grease gun.

Lubrication of the valve stem must be done separately.

The gear housing is filled with lubricant in the factory.

A grease change is recommended after 4 - 6 years.
