Allow time for good data collection First time samples can be a mini-
research project If prior work has been done, bring to
the SEM appointment. Use optical microscopes to locate
areas of interest and mark them Respect other’s time in the lab Respect my time in the lab
Not all SEM images are sharp and clear. If you just need basic information you can usually obtain that from a blurred image.
Publication images need more care and might require improper sample prep for best results (i.e. over coating)
Optical microscopes are available on a first come first serve basis
If you need instruction please let lab personnel know before you use them so as not to interrupt SEM sessions
The more information available the better the analysis.
Include previous work, operators do not remember each request.
