Maccabi World Union (MWU) expands on its uniquefunction as the worlds only international Jewish sports
organization to develop and influence modern Jewish
identity, lifestyles and aspirations through extensive
educational, cultural and charitable work in over 400
Jewish communities. Guided since 1895 by its famous
mission statement of Sound Jewish Minds in Healthy
Jewish Bodies, MWU is one of the largest Jewish and
Zionist organizations, with 400,000 members spreadacross the globe on 6 continents.
No other organization features anything like the
mass appeal and success of Maccabis Olympic-style
Games, sports and cultural festivals that are the worlds
largest Jewish events. Annual JCC Maccabi Games in
partnership with the JCC Association in North America
attract thousands of teen athletes, volunteers and
spectators. Regional Maccabi Games in Latin America,Europe and Australia are even larger. Staged every 4
years in Israel, the Maccabiah is simultaneously the
worlds largest Jewish event, Israels biggest tourism
event, and the planets 3rd largest sporting event. 9,000
athletes (Summer Olympics have around 11,000) in
more than 50 national Delegations will compete in 110
tournaments in 36 types of sports at the mammoth 19th
Maccabiah over nearly 3 weeks in July 2013. MaccabiUSA organizes athletes to compete in Maccabi Games
worldwide, Team USA at the Maccabiah holds the record
for the largest Delegation in international sports.
The enthusiasm, enterprise and dedication of Maccabi
volunteers makes MWU a prime training ground and
source of Jewish leadership. Maccabi is a leading
force in informal Jewish-Zionist youth education and
a top organizer of seminars and study-tours to Israelfor Jewish educators. MWU enrolls more than 1000
Jewish Diaspora and Israeli international businesspeople
and executives into its global Maccabi Business Forum
(MBF) network, engages in extensive grassroots pro-
Jewish and pro-Israel public information and diplomacy
campaigns, and streams Jewish philanthropy into
significant and effective family food security, new
immigrant educational support, elderly care and othersocial-uplift causes in Israel. In NY, LA, and Miami, MWU
operates Young Leadership Committees (YLCs) of highly
motivated and talented young professionals who share a
passion of Israel and Maccabi values. Mentored by MWU
supporters drawn from numerous business fields, their
purpose is to increase the visibility of Maccabis global
initiatives and raise funds to support MWU activities.

With similar founding principles and missions, MWU and
ZBT are natural partners: both began as Zionist clubs
dedicated to social justice, Jewish unity and fellowship.
ZBTs Circle of Brotherhood, including Alumni, Service,Education, Athletics, Social and Bonding directly parallels
MWUs mission and programs in Diaspora and Israel.
Maccabis flagship sports & cultural events epitomize the
educational values of athletics, fair play, social interaction
and bonding. Maccabis volunteers and Maccabi Tzair
Youth Movement members distribute food parcels
to thousands of needy Israeli families and elderly folk
throughout the country in annual Rosh Hashanah andPassover campaigns, enabling them to celebrate in
dignity and freedom from want. Maccabi Tzairs young
adults volunteer a gap year before military service to
mentor, help educate and keep at-risk youth in school,
off the streets and out of trouble.
The Maccabi-ZBT partnership opens new horizons for
both organizations, yielding extensive access to manyconstituencies. Early awareness of its activities spread
among thousands of JCC Maccabi Games teen athletes
- all potential fraternity recruits - benefits ZBT and its
chapters. Likewise, tens of thousands of JCC Maccabi
Games and USA Maccabi Games and Maccabiah
alumni, and MWUs YLC and Business Forum networks
in Maccabis unrivalled global spread provides highly
effective networking opportunities for ZBT brothers andalumni and vice-versa. It is a partnership for Tikkun Olam
(repairing the world) and for the Jewish Future.
