DEMOGRAPHICS Cruise demographics can vary considerably depending on the source. It is a broad topic that will have different results depending on the cruise line, ship, itinerary, and travel time of year. We have provided a general description of demographics based on our potential market. Cruisers by Age Demographic Approximately 50% of cruise prospects come from the 25-39 age group followed by the 40-59 age group at about 39% and the 60 plus age group at 11%. Actual guests taking cruises tell a somewhat different story. The 25-39 age groups take about 29% of the cruises. The 40-59 age groups take about 36% of the cruises while the 60 plus group take approximately 35% of cruises. Demographic by Gross Household Income There are thousands of U.S. dollars streaming into the travel industry from cruise travel. About 36% of prospective cruisers are in the 20,000-39,000 brackets. Prospective cruisers in the 40,000-59,000 bracket account for about 40%. The 60,000-99,000 group accounts for about 20% of prospective cruisers, while the 100,000 plus group accounts for about 4% of prospective cruisers. Consequently, 31% of cruisers are in the 20,000-39,000 income groups. About 30% are in the 40,000-59,000 income brackets. Additionally, 28% are in the 60,000-99,000 brackets while about 11% of cruise purchasers earn 100,000+. Demographics by duration of cruise Over one-half of the cruises purchased are in the 6-8 day range. Just over one-third is in the 2-5 day cruise range.
