Welcome Father Karel

Dear Parents/Caregivers, Staff, Students and Friends of the St Augustine’s Community

“If the only prayer you say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” ~ Meister Eckhart

Last Sunday all the hard work of Mark Geddes, father of Courtney, Year 4, and Tristan, Year 2 and his team of helpers, especially Bryce Madgwick came together in a day of fun, laughter, skilled golf playing, and much hilarity. There were some very smartly dressed ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, super heroes, and exotic looking ‘Flintstones’ as 78 keen players demonstrated their skills, or in my case, uncanny knack of hitting trees or finding the sand traps, on the Mossman Golf Course. There were so many wonderful prizes donated that all teams took home something at the end of the day.

Special thanks and much gratitude must go to the parents and friends of St Augustine’s School who assisted at the Golf Day. Without your very generous volunteering last Sunday~ selling tickets, cleaning and cooking on the barbecue, manning the various holes with games and fines or other duties – all would not have been! So to the following people… THANKYOU.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU!

The same thank goes out to Kim Geddes and Natalie Johnson who worked tirelessly ‘behind the scenes’ to source the prizes in the lead-up to the Fundraiser. It is very much appreciated! Gratitude also goes to Grant Law, who volunteered his services to be lead the auction in the afternoon, which greatly aided the fundraising efforts for the day!

Recognition and huge thanks must also be given not only to the volunteers but also to those who generously donated incredible prizes. Our very sincere thanks and appreciation is given to the following companies and businesses. We do ask that you thank them when next you visit or use their services. A special certificate will be sent to each business in the following weeks from our school community in appreciation of their incredible support of us.

Your donations of prizes made the day a wonderful success so that our students of St Augustine’s will be endowed with further resources, especially in the form of more ipads/digital technologies to be purchased in the future to enhance their ICT skills.

Our 2nd Golf Fundraiser at St Augustine’s School built further on the success of the 1st! Thank you to the initiator and organiser, Mark

Geddes!

THANK YOU – WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL – LAST FRIDAY I have the upmost respect for our families who are totally involved in every adventure we have with our children and so supportive of our school culture. So thank you to those wonderful staff, students and families who grabbed their “brollies” just in case and formed the walking buses in three different locations north, south and west of Mossman. This year we managed to beat the drenching experienced last year and had a terrific turn out! I walked with the bus leaving the ‘Woolies’ side of Mossman and it

was wonderful to see so many bodies get some exercise to start the School day. A final thank you to the wonderful supportive staff who organized themselves for the walk; to Alison Pendlebury who supervised the undercover area for me so I could walk and to Nadine Lowenstein-Jones, P & F President, and Richelle Woods who organized and cut up the fruit and provided the drinks. Well done to all - a great team working together!

BONDI RESCUE VISIT ~ TUESDAY 4th OF JUNE Yesterday a note went home about this. Bondi Rescue cast members ‘Reidy, Bacon, and Bisho’ will be at the school from 12:30-1:30 next Tuesday to deliver an Ocean safety talk, as part of a wider visit to the area. As there will be a filmed segment at school, additional media consent forms must be signed and returned to school by tomorrow. If consent is not received, then arrangements will be made for those students to not be part of filming. This is a very exciting opportunity to showcase our fantastic school on a wider media scale, so full school uniform and best behaviour from our kids is important!

FORMAL WELCOME TO FR. KAREL!

Our new parish priest has been a very welcome and active presence of school, recently helping the Preps and Year 6/7 classes celebrate liturgies and attending Monday morning prayer and Assembly. We are very much looking forward to including Karel in our school life, so please introduce yourself to him if you see him around!

FINAL POINTS…

It is been observed during eating breaks lately that nut-related products are starting to creep into student lunch boxes. A friendly reminder of the message that was given in one of the 1st newsletters for the year that…

We are a NUT FREE SCHOOL. Children must refrain from bringing nuts, nut bars (muesli, health) nut

spreads (peanut paste, nutella) or any product that has obvious nut pieces to school. These foods can be eaten at

home. Whilst this may be inconvenient as a community, each of us needs to take responsibility for all of our children.

I have also noticed that some students are starting to get back into the habit of wearing rings, bracelets, anklets etc. or wearing shoes without notes that run contrary to our uniform policy. It would be appreciated if these matters can be attended to, and a big thank you to those students who are wearing our uniform correctly and with pride!

Mrs. Devlin returns from leave on Monday, so we warmly welcome her back as Principal to St. Augustine’s and wait with eager anticipation for some great stories of her adventures overseas!

As next Wednesday is World Environment Day, I leave you with this prayer…

Living God, You reveal your great love through the beauty of Nature.

Help us to love and respect our world. May we be ‘seeds’ for growth, raising awareness of the Sacred,

and teaching all to see and treasure your print in the gift of Creation.

Amen!

May God be with you this week,

Josh Mullane

(Acting Principal)

LIBRARY NEWS

Well we hope all students are

enjoying the books they ordered

through the Book Club.

A big thank you to Di Knight,

Charlotte Gonsalves and Jean McDonald

who took on the organising of Book

Club this term.

The first time is a real challenge

and these ladies, especially Jean

gave up some of their free time to

learn the workings of a school Book

Club. All went smoothly in the end

with much help from Miss Leah who we

also thank for her tireless efforts.

We have earned somewhere in the

vicinity of $400 worth of books to

order. THANK YOU!

We are putting out a call for

any new book covering

volunteers as we have new books waiting to be covered.

The busy season is on us and

some of our present book

coverers have less free time

for this period. Thanks to

Jayne and Louise for your

help this term. Yvonne Grant

WANTED: Any unwanted fishing, motorbike

or NRL magazines that are still in good condition.

Rather than throw them out, the library can recycle them to our

readers. Please leave with the office staff. Thank you

The phrase '65 Roses' was created when a younger brother of a small child, who had been

diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in the late 1950s, was unable to pronounce the name of the

disease. Instead he said that his sister had 'sixty five roses.' Since that time, the rose has

become the symbol of cystic fibrosis around the world.

During May, we are encouraged to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland, which helps

hundreds of children and their families coping with CF.
