2016 meeting. At this writing none have filed to fill the three-year terms. The Superintendent’s Office is open

open until 5pm on the final day to register, which is Tuesday, January 19.
The Harrison County Clerk’s office, located in the courthouse in Bethany, is open 8am to 4:30pm each Monday
through Friday for citizens to register to vote, or to update their address and voting precinct. (They are closed
noon to 1pm for lunch). The final day to register to vote is Wednesday, March 9.
The 2016 election will be on Tuesday, April 5. You may vote absentee by mail February 23 through March 30.
You may vote absentee at the County Clerk’s office through Monday, April 4. For questions regarding register-
ing and absentee voting contact Jackie Deskins at 425-6424.
The polls will be open 6am to 7pm on Tuesday, April 5. Some residents of the North Harrison R-3 School
District may have been assigned to a new voting location. Those residing in Marion township will vote in
Ridgeway, while those residing in Hamilton township will now vote at the Eagleville City Hall.
From the Desk of Superintendent Johnson Greetings! The second half of the 2015-16 school year has begun! Our January 4th Professional Development in-service was presented by Mr. Jeff Oldfield
from the Apple Institute. Teachers had the chance to be students on that day as he presented on using IPADS in the classroom to enhance learning. Teachers
had the opportunity to create projects and presentations and learn about Keynote and Explain Everything, two great apps for developing presentations. As we
prepare students for the 21st century and beyond, the ability to manipulate data and to use electronic media has to be a focus of teaching and learning. We are
doing our best to stay abreast of current trends in technology, and continue to look for ways to increase the use of technology in learning.
Beginning with the fall of 2016, North Harrison and Gilman City will be in a coo-op agreement for Junior High and Varsity football with Pattonsburg. This
will be an opportunity for the district to evaluate projected interest in football, and whether or not there might be at some time an opportunity for North
Harrison to host our own team. We will face some challenges making this happen, the largest one being transportation to and from practice and games. We
are even now beginning to look at options and to move forward with planning for football in the fall of 2016.
Thank you for your continued support of our district and our students. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

2015 Service Project
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City was
selected as the benefactor of the winter service project of the
North Harrison School District. The mission of the Ronald
McDonald House is to provide a “home away from home” for
families who have children receiving medical care in a Kansas
City Hospital. Families are allowed a free place to stay, a home
cooked meal, comfortable bed, warm shower, and a calming place
to rejuvenate. Over 80 families are served on any given night.
And, unfortunately many families in our school district have
needed these services. During an all-school assembly the students viewed a video featuring current students sharing how
they or their family members have been served by the Ronald McDonald House. Guest speakers Jesse and Ashleigh Crump
from Gilman City shared their personal experience. (Jesse is a frequent substitute for our district and Ashleigh is a 2003 NH
grad). Tori Young, wife of Coy Young (Class of 2001) shared a tearful story of the assistance her family received while her
oldest son battled cancer. Our own music director, Liz Betts, spoke of her experience when each of her children were born
prematurely.
The North Harrison community set to work and gathered over all sorts of needed items to be delivered to the Kansas City
facility, such as items for breakfast, meals on the go, personal hygiene products, paper goods, cleaning supplies and activity
items.
During the holiday break Guidance Counselor Mrs. Smith, 4th grade teacher Mrs. Hartschen, along with Mr. and Mrs. Betts,
delivered over 4,000 items...two vans full…to the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House on behalf of our school and com-
munity. The group also delivered “to go” lunch bags loaded with snacks for a day. These bags can be picked up by the
residents in the morning in case they are not able to return to the house for a meal.
THANK YOU for your part in giving!
Mardee Sadowsky recently
attended the Missouri Cattle
Industry state convention at
Tan-Tar-A Resort where she
competed in their speech
contest offered through the
FFA.
In the fall Mardee competed
in the District contest placing
third and advancing to the
state contest. The title of her
eight-minute speech was “Beef, It’s What’s for Dinner” and she
spoke about the importance of beef in our daily diet as well as the
new dietary guidelines.
Mardee was announced as winner of third place on the state level.
She earned $100 for her district achievement and $200 for her state
placing.
Mardee, a Freshman, said she also gained much experience as the
students competing against her were all Seniors.
ATTENTION JUNIORS! The state of Missouri requires
EVERY Junior student to take the ACT Test.
The STATEWIDE TEST DATE
is TUESDAY, APRIL 18, 2016.
Mark your calendar and refrain from scheduling appointments on this
date. Let Mrs. Smith know if you have a question!
