INTRODUCTION
The Minerals Council of Australia Northern Territory Northern Australian Emergency Response Competition (NAERC) plays an integral part in emergency response training. Well trained emergency rescue teams are critical to the emergency preparedness component of any safety management system. The 2020 competition commences Wednesday 27 May 2020 and concludes Sunday 31 May 2020. With the support of our competition hosts Charles Darwin University, ERGT and Kirkland Lake Gold, the competition will be held on site at the Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus in Darwin, NT with the Underground Rescue Scenario held on site at Kirkland Lake Gold’s COSMO Mine, NT. The competition provides an intense focus for honing the skills of first responders by providing a practical training experience under the pressure of competition. Scenarios are designed to be as realistic as possible using live casualties with injuries prepared to be genuine as possible. Teams compete to accomplish a range of different emergency response scenarios testing skills in road accident rescue, first aid, breathing apparatus (BA) search and rescue, hazardous materials (HAZMAT), rescue from heights and fire fighting. A theory exam encompassing all of the emergency response disciplines and an individual skills component is also included. Teams experienced in underground rescue also have the opportunity of competing in an underground scenario. Suitable qualified adjudicators provide written assessments on each team at the end of each exercise with an emphasis on continuous improvement of team skills. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each of above named exercises, as well as the Linda Young Most Helpful Team, Team Safety, Best Captain, Best Medic, Best Individual, Best Casualty and Best Adjudicator. A trophy will also be presented to the Best Overall Team. A competition of this nature is not possible without the invaluable support of its partners. The competition offers partners the opportunity to be involved with a high profile and nationally recognised event. There are packages tailored to meet every budget that will not only give your company great exposure and provide valuable networking opportunities, your company representatives will have the unique opportunity of being involve in an emergency response competition.
