Knicks-Nets
game in
Brooklyn
postponed
NEW YORK (AP) -- Barclays Center sits
right above a major mass-transit hub,
an ideal destination for fans
throughout New York. Not right now,
though. With those subways knocked
out by Hurricane Sandy and no way of
knowing how fans would get there,
the city's mayor decided this isn't the
time for a game.
So Michael Bloomberg asked the NBA
to postpone Thursday's highly
anticipated opener between the
Knicks and Nets, and the league
agreed Wednesday.
"It's a great stadium, it would have
been a great game, but the bottom
line is: There is not a lot of mass
transit. Our police have plenty of
other things to do," Bloomberg said at
a news conference.
Barclays Center sits above the Atlantic
Avenue subway station complex
which hosts nine subway lines and a
Long Island Rail Road station, and was
expanded as part of the $1 billion
arena's construction. The Nets believe
that will be a major selling point in
drawing fans to the games after they
were plagued by poor attendance
during their years in New Jersey.
Xavi criticizes Madrid attitude Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has threatened to stoke tensions in the Spain
squad after again criticising the manner in which Real Madrid players have reacted to
defeat. There have long been concerns that the ferocious rivalry between the two
clubs may cause disharmony in the national set-up, and coach Vicente Del Bosque
recently confirmed there were issues between Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos. "If
Pique and Ramos do not get along, they'll be dropped," Del Bosque said. "They are
young kids with their differences, but we have no problems." Xavi has now risked
provoking the Real Madrid players in the squad as he repeated comments he made in
January and April suggesting Barca's players have a more sporting approach.

Clippers'Barnes
suspended for
season opener LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Matt Barnes will
miss the Los Angeles Clippers' season
opener on Wednesday night while
serving a one-game suspension issued
by the NBA after he pleaded no
contest last month to a misdemeanor
for resisting, delaying or obstructing a
police officer. He was arrested in
Manhattan Beach in July on suspicion
of threatening a public official, which
is a felony. The 32-year-old forward
was arrested after an officer who was
aware he had an outstanding warrant
for a misdemeanor traffic violation
approached him on foot.
The Los Angeles County district
attorney's office chose to file a
misdemeanor and it agreed to a deal
on the lesser charge.
Barnes signed with the Clippers during
the offseason after playing the last
two seasons with the Lakers. The

Chelsea lodge official complaint Chelsea have lodged a formal complaint with the Football Association over language used by
referee Mark Clattenburg towards Jon Obi Mikel in the club's controversial 3 -2 defeat to
Manchester United on Sunday. The London club insisted they had not taken the decision lightly but
decided to press on with their complaint after speaking to all the players and staff involved. Chelsea
have decided there is not enough evidence to submit a second complaint, thought to be for an
exchange between Clattenburg and Juan Mata. "Chelsea Football Club today lodged a formal
complaint with The Football Association regarding inappropriate language directed at John Mikel
Obi by referee Mark Clattenburg,".

Assassination of John F. Kennedy
November 22, 49 years ago, in 1963 the president of the United States got killed. John Fitzgerald Kennedy,
the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-
top convertible. First lady Jacqueline Kennedy rarely accompanied her husband on political outings, but
she was beside him, along with Texas Governor John Connally and his wife, for a 10-mile motorcade
through the streets of downtown Dallas on November 22. Sitting in a Lincoln convertible, the Kennedys
and Connallys waved at the large and enthusiastic crowds gathered along the parade route. As their
vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired
three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor
Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas' Parkland Hospital. He was 46.
Moby-Dick
Published
November 14, 161 years ago, in 1851 a
great novel was published. On this day in
1851, Moby-Dick, a novel by Herman
Melville about the voyage of the whaling
ship Pequod, is published by Harper &
Brothers in New York. Moby-Dick is now
considered a great classic of American
literature and contains one of the most
famous opening lines in fiction: "Call me
Ishmael." Initially, though, the book about
Captain Ahab and his quest for a giant
white whale was a flop.
Disney is buying Lucasfilm Disney is buying Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars
films, from its chairman and founder George Lucas for $4.05bn
(£2.5bn). Mr Lucas said: "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars
on to a new generation of film-makers." George Lucas, the
creator of the Star Wars franchise and CEO of Lucasfilm, owns
100% of the company. Even better: A new Star Wars movie,
Episode VII, will debut in 2015. More Star Wars feature films
are planned after that. The Lucasfilm acquisition follows
Disney’s very successful acquisitions of Pixar and Marvel, which
demonstrated the company’s unique ability to fully develop
and expand the financial potential of high quality creative
content with compelling characters and storytelling through
the application ofinnovative technology and multiplatform
distribution on a truly global basis to create maximum value.
Adding Lucasfilm to Disney’s portfolio of world class brands
significantly enhances the company’s ability to serve
consumers with a broad variety of the world’s highest-quality
content and to create additional long-term value for our
shareholders.

Cyclone tears into
South Indian coast
At least eight people were killed and thousands
displaced after powerful Cyclone Nilam roared
into India's southeastern coast, authorities said
Thursday. About 8,000 people in low-lying areas
on the coast of Tamil Nadu state were moved to
temporary shelters, said Jatindranath Swain,
the province's disaster management
commissioner. An oil tanker with 37 people on
board got into difficulty as the storm made
landfall Wednesday, he said. The high winds
and strong waves set the vessel adrift and drove
it toward the coast, where it ran aground, Swain
said. Naval divers engaged in rescue efforts at
the stranded ship, according to Swain, but six
crew members remained missing Thursday. The
India Meteorological Department said that
Nilam crossed the southern coast at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday. It then moved inland and
weakened into a deep depression, the agency
said. 7 ways to manage stress in a disaster
Emergency crews were patrolling vulnerable
zones in Tamil Nadu, Swain said. Governments
in neighboring Andhra Pradesh state and the
federally-administered territory of Puducherry
had said they were prepared to deal with Nilam.
The national weather department was
forecasting heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu,
Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. "Gale wind-
speed reaching 80-90 kph (50-56 mph) gusting
to 100 kph (62 mph) would prevail along and off
north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining
south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 24
hours," it said Wednesday. Weather officials
also predicted a storm surge that was likely to
inundate low-lying areas, mainly along Tamil
Nadu's coast. Forecasters warned that residents
should expect extensive damage to thatched
roofs and huts, advising fishermen not to
venture into the sea until the storm has passed.
Bangladesh Boat Sinks As many as 130 people may have drowned off the coast of
southern Bangladesh after a boat carrying passengers trying to
illegally get into Malaysia sank in the Bay of Bengal,
Bangladeshi authorities said Thursday. The accident appears to
be the tragic result of an annual migration of thousands of
people along dangerous, clandestine routes operated by
criminal gangs. Details have only recently begun to emerge
about the sinking, which happened early Sunday, according to
Lt.-Col. Zahid Hassan, the commander of the Bangladeshi
border guard battalion in Teknaf, the area from which the boat
is believed to have departed. Just six survivors have been
recovered by Bangladeshi authorities from the 136 people
reported to have been on the vessel, Hassan said. Authorities
are seeking nine people identified as operators of the human
trafficking ring that organized the boat trip, he added. Most of
the people on board are believed to have been Bangladeshi,
according to Hassan. But some, including three of the
survivors, were Rohingya, Muslim people from Rakhine state
in Myanmar, or Burma. After lethal clashes this year between
Rohingya and Buddhist residents of Rakhine, thousands more
have tried to escape across the border only to find their path
blocked by Bangladeshi authorities who say there are already
too many refugees in the country.

Thanksgiving History
Thanksgiving is a particularly American holiday. The word
evokes images of football, family reunions, roasted turkey
with stuffing, pumpkin pie and, of course, the Pilgrims
and Wampanoag, the acknowledged founders of the
feast. Giving thanks for the Creator’s gifts had always
been a part of Wampanoag daily life. From ancient times,
Native People of North America have held ceremonies to
give thanks for successful harvests, for the hope of a good
growing season in the early spring, and for other good
fortune such as the birth of a child. Giving thanks was,
and still is, the primary reason for ceremonies or
celebrations. As with Native traditions in America,
celebrations - complete with merrymaking and feasting -
in England and throughout Europe after a successful crop
are as ancient as the harvest-time itself. In 1621, when
their labors were rewarded with a bountiful harvest after
a year of sickness and scarcity, the Pilgrims gave thanks to
God and celebrated His bounty in the Harvest Home
tradition with feasting and sport (recreation). To these
people of strong Christian faith, this was not merely a
revel; it was also a joyous outpouring of gratitude. The
arrival of the Pilgrims and Puritans brought new
Thanksgiving traditions to the American scene. Today’s
national Thanksgiving celebration is a blend of two
traditions: the New England custom of rejoicing after a
successful harvest, based on ancient English harvest
festivals; and the Puritan Thanksgiving, a solemn religious
observance combining prayer and feasting. Florida, Texas,
Maine and Virginia each declare itself the site of the First
Thanksgiving and historical documents support the
various claims. Spanish explorers and other English
Colonists celebrated religious services of thanksgiving
years before Mayflower arrived. However, few people
knew about these events until the 20th century. They
were isolated celebrations, forgotten long before the
establishment of the American holiday, and they played
no role in the evolution of Thanksgiving. But as James W.
Baker states in his book, Thanksgiving: The Biography of
an American Holiday, "despite disagreements over the
details" the 3-day event in Plymouth in the fall of 1621
was "the historical birth of the American Thanksgiving
holiday."
Discipline Discipline is very important in a civilized life. Discipline can
be defined as control over one's desires and obedient' to
codes of behavior. If there is no discipline, there is
confusion everywhere. Discipline is of great importance in
schools. If there is no discipline in schools, it is not possible
to imp education effectively. It is necessary to maintain law
an order in the society. There should be discipline at home
also. Children must be taught self-control. Parents
themselves should keep discipline. Children should be
taught the value discipline in childhood. A country cannot
face extern wars if its armed forces are not disciplined.
Unfortunately, there are not much discipline today schools,
colleges and government offices. That is w India is facing
many problems. Discipline is necessary for people in all
walks folia Students studying in schools and colleges,
Define personnel, industrial workers - all must have disciple
Only then a nation can progress.

Constancy Have you heard the example of the drop of
water falling steadily to make a hole in the
cement or a bone?
Perhaps you’ve seen the same at home when a
leak destroy or damage any wall or furniture.
These are samples of what you can achieve
with consistency. The results in these cases
are not the most advantageous.
But if we use the same resource to do the
things we want, we would achieve more. For
example, if you will focus on sleep every day in
a specific time, (ex. 10:30 pm) after a while you
find it easier to wake up earlier. Or if you set
out to do flexibility exercises daily upon
awakening, you would reach the point where
you can touch your feet with your hands
without effort. These are very basic examples,
but the constancy can lead to end a career,
earn more money, and make somebody fall in
love, to build your house and any task that you
set you just need to know what you want to
achieve and a strong mindset will help you to
work every day in your purpose.
People tend to fear spiders more
than death. Average, people fear
spiders more than they do death.
In Japan they have square
watermelons. They get square
watermelons by growing them
inside of square glass cases. That
way they can fit easily into a
refrigerator, and you can stack
things on them. Square
watermelons are expensive
though (10,000 yen or about
$82). Compare that to regular
round watermelons which cost
about $15-20 in Japan.
Curiosities
The hyoid bone is the only bone in
the human body not connected to
any other. This small U-shaped bone
can be found amid the muscles of a
human neck. Insignificant as it may
seem, it serves a VERY important
purpose: the hyoid bone allows
human beings to speak! It helps to
support your tongue and raise your
larynx whenever you talk and
swallow. The hyoid exists in other
animals also, but humans are the
only species where the location of
their hyoid bone permits it to work
together with the tongue and larynx
to articulate a large variety of
distinct sounds!
Cracking your knuckles does not
actually hurt your bones or
cause arthritis. The sound you
hear is just gas bubbles
bursting. Cracking your
knuckles (or any of your joints)
can have therapeutic benefits.
When you crack one of your
joints you are pulling the bones
that are connected at the joint
apart from each other. This
process stimulates your
tendons, relaxes your muscles,
and loosens your joints.
Chiropractors do this for spinal
joints when your back is sore
and stiff, but you can do this on
your own for your knuckles,
toes, knees, neck, etc.

Bohemian Rhapsody returned to the
US Top Ten charts after 16 years when
it appeared in Wayne’s World!
Freddie Mercury of Queen wrote the
hit song Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975
for their album A Night At The Opera.
It has no chorus, but instead has four
parts: a ballad, an operatic passage,
guitar solo, and a hard rock section. At
the time of its recording, it was the
most expensive single ever made and
still remains one of the most
elaborate recordings in popular music
history. It had huge success on the UK
charts for nine weeks and sold more
than a million copies. It eventually
became the UK’s third best selling
single of all time. It hit the charts big
in Canada, the US, and Australia, too.
Sixteen years after it topped the
charts in the US it returned to the Top
Ten charts after the release of
Wayne’s World. The song was
featured in the film and brought it
back to popularity in 1992. The
director almost didn’t even put the
song in the film, because it didn’t
really fit the characters, but Mike
Myers insisted they use the song in
the film.
A guy was so obsessed with World of
Warcraft, he had 36 accounts on 11
computers! A World of Warcraft
player known as ‘Bradster’ has
created 36 accounts and uses 11
different computers to play on! Whilst
some might see this as a bit crazy, he
sees this as the best way to conduct
an unstoppable raid on the alliance
(or to be more exact: “to invade
Stormwind and Ironforge when they
reach top level”. All this dedication
doesn’t come cheap though. It costs
the Bradster around $5711 per year.
He’s not too fussed about the price,
commenting that: “there are more
expensive hobbies out there than
World of Warcraft.” You’ve got to
admire his levels of commitment
really. If you’re going to do
something, might as well do it right
(and with the full force of 36 accounts
and 11 computers!) Whether or not
he achieves his goals within the World
of Warcraft universe he’s surely got
the nod of admiration from other
players around the world.
It’s scientifically proven that splashing
cold water into your face helps you
calm down!
Most of us probably do it every
morning, just to freshen up or to snap
out of that weird dream. It’s called
“Mammalian Diving Reflex”. Of course
this is not just about morning
routines, as it also happens when you
dive underwater. The process may
seem quick, but during those few
seconds three changes occur in the
body:
First, your heart rate slows
down up to 25 percent.
Second, the blood flow to the
limbs are reduced, just to
make sure the brain and the
heart receive enough oxygen.
Third, there is a blood shift,
but this only occurs during
very deep dives. This allows
the blood plasma and water
to pass through organs to
protect them against the
increasing pressure.
Now that you know this actually
works, you could try it before a
business meeting, or simply a date.
Even by using a cold wet towel, you
can activate this reflex in order to
calm your nerves.

Super storm leaves widespread
flooding, power outages Hurricane
Sandy, after killing at least 69 people
in the Caribbean, steamed
northward and merged with winter
weather systems over the U.S.,
slamming the Northeast, mid-
Atlantic and Great Lakes regions
with devastating wind, rain, snow
and tidal surges. Jimmie Johnson
knows that being unable to get in his
Manhattan-area apartment is a
small inconvenience compared to
what so many others are going
through in the aftermath of
Hurricane Sandy.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup points

efforts in communities affected by
the storm.’ Lowe's has made a $1
million pledge, and will also match
Johnson's earnings for Sunday's race
at Texas with a minimum donation of
$250,000 to the American Red Cross.
Johnson and Hendrick will together
donate an additional $48,000. The
apartment isn't Johnson's primary
residence. But he says the building is
evacuated after the bottom two
floors, which are underground, were
flooded and the lobby damaged.

Sports Day!
November 1, 2012.
The Interamerican School held their
traditional sports day this day, in
which we saw a lot of healthy
competitiveness between the schools
grades. This year we invited San Jose’s
band so they could delight us with
their beautiful music the whole
morning, we had a lot of parents
supporting their kids in the athletic
competition. Surprisingly this year we
saw the seniors sweeping away in all
the competitions we had, they took
over 3 of the 4 prizes we gave away,
they excelled in the following areas:
Female Athletics
Female Basketball
Male Soccer
This was a beautiful day as we could
all enjoy it playing together having fun
and most importantly making our
friendship bonds stronger, we hope
that the next year we have a good
sports day as this year or even better!
