Whyaretherenoworksheetsprovidedintheprogramme?

Formanyyearsithasbeenshownbyresearchthatchildrendoworksheets,butnotreallyrelatetheactivitywiththerealuseofmaths-solvingproblemsinreallifesituations.Therelatingisknownas‘generalising’.Ifyouarelookingforaworksheettoreinforcememorisationofnumberfacts,ortocreatebusywork,therearethousandsforfreeontheinternet;Numicondoesn’tneedtocreateanymore!

However,ifyouarerealisingtheyourstudent/childneedsmanyrepetitiveactivitiestomemorisetheshapes,patternsofnumbers,patternsofsolvingproblems,thenbyusingtheactivities,talkingaboutwhattheydoingandrecordingtheresults,thistypeofactivityhasmuchgreaterlongtermbenefit.

Creatingyourowngamesandactivitieswillhaveagreaterimpactonlongtermlearningthatdoingendlessrowsofnumberproblems.Togetanideaofthekindofgamesandtostartyourowncreativejuicesflowing,lookattheactivitiesontheNumiconInterventionCD.It’sgreat!

ButwhatcanonegroupdowhileIamteachinganother?ChoosefromthePracticesectionofeachactivitygroup–WholeClassandindependent.NumiconPupilBooks(publishSeptember2017)haveloadsofactivitieslinkedtoeveryactivitytodevelopdeeperthinking.
