ENERGY FOR THE CELL
Chloroplasts and Mitochondria
Chloroplasts
Capture the sun’s energy to make glucose (food) in plants and algae. Located in the cytoplasm and the the site of photosynthesis.

Take two minutes to write down reasons you think plants have chloroplasts and animals do not.
Mitochondria
“Power house” of the cell provides energy for cells. Cell that need more energy, have more mitochondria
Both the ER and the mitochondria have folded membranes to increase the surface area where chemical reaction occur
Think About It!
Take two minutes to think and write down whether you would expect muscle cells or fat cells to contain more mitochondria and why.
