President’s Message
by Dave DuGoff, MCA President
Proposed Slate of Officers and Board Members
Looking back on the Summer, it is almost not worth mentioning. We have had a record number of hot days, periods of no rain (and lots of carwashing) followed by periods of record rainfall, 9" in 9 days, (very little carwashing), threats of flooding, torrential rain and wind gusts. It’s been anything but calm. If your equipment is well maintained and your staff is well trained, you are probably having a pretty good year.
So, how was the MCA’s first cruise on the Delaware River from Wilmington to the Delaware Memorial Bridge? It was fun, the food was tasty and abundant, and our good friend Mike Benmosche talked about safety issues in the carwash. Mike has a way of making these discussions interesting. In fact, no one left early. I think we all learned something. Thanks, Mike.
On September 27, Dan and Lana Callihan of Glen Burnie Carwash, represented MCA at the annual Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Taste of the Chesapeake Event in Annapolis. MCA is a member of their Business for the Bay network.
On October 17, we will gather at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation headquarters near Annapolis, Maryland. This is a fascinating building on the shores of the water built of recycled pickle barrels and barn lumber. The event will start with a building tour at 5 p.m., followed by a reception at 6 and catered dinner at 7 p.m. During the reception, we will be treated to a digital showing of the art behind the WashTrends magazine covers. Sandy Travis-Bidahl, the WashTrends editor-in-chief and creator of the art will be on hand. To date, we have raised $10,515 for Wash to Save the Bay, bringing our total for the program to

more than $60,000. Our speaker with be John Rodenhausen, our liaison with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He will bring us to speed on the health of the Bay, and how it has been impacted by the Conowingo Spills. We hope you can make it. Sign up at www.mcacarwash.org.
In November, we are returning to Charlottesville, Virginia. In the afternoon we will tour four car washes: Car Lovers (2), Express Green and Laser Wash, and the All American Carwash. Our dinner meeting will be held at the well-known Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville. With golf and spa, this is a great venue to share with
your spouse. We will have a reception, followed by dinner and program. The topic is “Water Quality and Discharge from Your Wash.” We will have two speakers: Jennifer Rapp from the US Geological Survey and Hien Dang from the Chesterfield, VA County Utilities Department.
I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
