Where shopping is a pleasure. Not only is it true, but United Way knows that having Publix Super Markets, Inc. as one of our premiere partners is a pleasure! The dedication and support of this organization to our community has endured for over a decade and helped thousands. This year, despite tough economic times, they have prevailed once again!
Every year, United Way board members and staff visit each store to personally thank employees for their unwaivering support. It’s a pleasure to experience. As we thank them, they in turn thank us for

The power of giving can be electrifying! For the second consecutive year, the Florida Power & Light Company raised more than $1 million! As always, they go above and beyond for their corporate campaign. By creating the GIVE UNITED theme this year, they once again increased their giving significantly. Company involvement, from leadership on down, is the key to their success. Special events like “Kiss the Pig”, a Women’s Leadership luncheon and lunchtime activities, create fun ways for employees to donate.

FOCUSING on a new future
The child of a drug user, LaShaundra was the sole support for her two and four year-old girls. At 26, she worked at Wal-Mart. She slept on a friend’s couch with her girls to escape their father who abused and did not support his family. She wanted to change her life and the future of her children, and knew that education was the only path out, so she enrolled in Palm Beach Community College. When the friend’s apartment caught fire, LaShaundra and her children were homeless. They found help through Adopt-A-Family whose programs provide a safe, stable home, food, case management and support services.
Fast forward three years to May 2009. With Adopt-A-Family’s assistance and her own determination, LaShaundra moved up to Tallahassee and graduated from FAMU with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
She wrote the following note:When it is all said and done, the core of all my accomplishments involve YOU. Because of YOU I have been able to dream, reach, and succeed. Because of YOU I have been an excellent mother. Because of YOU I have become a better person. I never would have made it without YOU!

This annual report is dedicated to you, our loyal donor. Thanks to you, in this year of economic challenges, United Way was able to invest $9 million into our community. As the needs increased, you, our loyal donor, continued to step up to help.
Thanks to you and the services provided by our partner agencies, hard-working families struggling to make rent and mortgage payments, were able to stay in their homes; thousands of hungry individuals and families received food through the efforts of the Palm Beach County Community Food Alliance; and hundreds of students with disabilities and their parents have hope for a brighter future through our S.T.A.R.S. Conference.
Our board of directors continues to ensure that your donations are spent wisely, and directed to where they can make the greatest impact. While we operate as one of the most efficient charities in the country, we believe we can do an even better job.
Recently, the board spent 3,200 volunteer hours developing our new five-year strategic plan. The goals are measurable, and our progress will be shared with our donors.
