Organizational development is a set of behavioral science–based theories, values, strategies, and technologies aimed at planned change of the organizational work setting for the purpose of enhancing individual development and improving organizational performance, through the alteration of organizational members’ on-the-job behaviors (Porras & Robertson, 1992).
Organizational development is a process by which organizations use the theories and technology of the behavioral sciences to facilitate changes that enhance their effectiveness
(Jex & Britt, 2008).
OD is an effort (1) planned, (2) organization-wide, and (3) managed from the top, to (4) increase organization effectiveness and health through (5) planned interventions in the organization’s “processes” using behavioral science knowledge.
(Beckhard, 1969)
Organization development is a system-wide application of behavioral science knowledge to the planned development and reinforcement of organizational strategies, structures, and processes for improving an organization's effectiveness.Cummings and Worley, "Organization Development and Change", Sixth Edition, South-Western Publishing, 1997,
p.2. A system-wide application and transfer of behavioral science knowledge to the planned
development, improvement, and reinforcement of the strategies structure, and process
that lead to organization effectiveness.
• OD Process is based on the action research model which begins with an identified problem or need for change. The process proceeds through assessment, planning of an intervention, implementing the intervention, gathering data to evaluate the intervention, and determining if satisfactory progress has been made or if there is need for further intervention. The process is cyclical and ends when the desired developmental result is obtained
What is an organizational development process?
A systematic way where a
company defines,organizes and implements its
operations through the stages of the product life cycle.

Schools as organizations: “…learning organizations are comprised of people who see
themselves as connected to each other and the world.” Senge (1990)
“…the community in schools displayed the kind of connectedness among members that resembles the bond found in family…” Sergiovanni (1992)
“…learning community in schools reduces isolation, increases staff capacity, productive environment and promotes increased quality.” Boyd (1992)
However, OD Process is complicated and takes time to complete the process. As mentioned there are other approaches for the OD Process but the one
chosen, consists of the seven steps is typical An organization needs to always evaluate its OD programs as to evaluate the
effectiveness. One of the ways by using this OD Process. All the steps need to be adhered in order to derive full range of OD benefits.
