March 20, 2022 Third Sunday of Lent
God offers everyone salvation and freedom; it is an offer we are free to accept or reject. Today’s readings remind us that salvation and eternal life with God require our repentance from sin and turning
away from our own ways to embrace a new life with him. He invites us to participate in his mission and bear fruit for the kingdom. The offer, however, remains ours to accept or reject.

PREPARING FOR THE 2023 SYNOD In the coming month, all Catholics will be asked to begin preparing for the upcoming 2023 Synod. This endeavor will: assist in the work
of the International SYNOD taking place in 2023. A survey is available to ALL Cath-olics. This will provide a resource to the Archdiocese for planning and afford us a
greater grasp of who we are as a parish; our strengths and areas of growth especially after such a challenging two years. If you would like a hard copy of the sur-
vey, please get one in the back of church. Information about in person and virtual sessions will be available soon. If you are able and would like to do it on line, you may
look up the following link: www.catholicleaders.org/phila-DMI then look for Our Lady of Fatima in the list.
The deadline to complete the survey is April 4, 2022.
FAST AND ABSTINENCE DURING LENT The Bishops of the U.S. prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, on all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate fre-quently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recom-mended. All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Archdiocese as well as throughout our nation and our world.
