    Welcome to the book that really isnt a book at allits an

    epic crafting adventure, just for you! The pages here have cool

    projects for you to cut up or punch out, color or doodle all

    over, build into a 3-D sculpture, or rip out and paste on a wall

    near you. Some crafts take about five minutes; some areperfect for filling a boring afternoon. Some you may want to

    make copies of, so you can share them with your friends.

    To do these activities, you dont need muchjust

    scissors, glue, regular and double-sided tape, a hole

    punch, some #2 pencils, string, rubber bands, and your

    favorite markers or colored pencils. But feel free to add

    any other fun stuff youve got aroundlike sequins,

    yarn, feathers, or sand.

    1) Punch outthe mask . . .

    2) Add somedecorations.

    3) Securewith stringand wear!

    A few scissor snips, bits of tapeand dabs of glue, a smack of

    your palm, and BLAMMO! Thisrockets headed for deep space.

    Assemble and put it in orbit!

    slaprocket

    1) Cut out your rocket partsalong the dotted lines.

    3) Fold the flaps so theyoverlap the purple spaces,making a dome shape. Tape.

    4) Fold and glue therocket launcher so thenarrow tab is insidethe tube. Spread the

    bottom tabs.

    2) Fold the launching padalong the dashed line.

    5) Poke the tube up throughthe launching pads hole. Glue

    down the tabs on the inside.

    6) Refold. Tape thesides of the pad downto seal air inside.

    7) Fold and glue therocket so the narrowtab is inside the tube.Crease and spread outthe top flaps.

    8) Wrap the rocket topinto a cone, with the palered areas overlappinginside. Glue.

    9) Glue the rocket toponto the rockets tabs.

    10) Slide the rocketover the launchingtube. Smack andwatch it take flight!(To reinflate thelaunching pad, blow

    through the tube.)

    mini home cinema

    Lights, camera, action! Make your directorial debutwith a tiny cinema that plays a movie you scriptedand animated all by yourself. (Or use the goofy samplemovie strips weve made for you on the right!)

    1) Find the cinematemplate and place it sothat the yellow side isfaceup. Punch out thetemplatedont forgetthe tiny slits and holes.

    2) Fold the top flapdown so that its flatand the holes align.Glue down.

    3) Fold this flap so thatif the paper is on a tablein front of you, the flapstands up straight. Folddown the tabs on theside of the flap. (This isthe cinemas ceiling.)

    4) Fold the left wingover so that the top isflat against the tinytab, then glue in place.The wing has a top tabwith a hole in it and a

    long tab on the sidecrease them backward.

    8) Cut out a strip of film.Think of a story to tell, thendraw a scene from it in eachsquare. Write your lines foreach scene on the back.

    9) Tape the ends of thefilm strip to the pencils,then . . .

    10) . . . twist the left pencilclockwise. The first sceneshould show in the cinemaswindow. (To show yourmovie, twist the right pencilwhile you tell your story.)

    11) Punch out the decorations(theyre three pages ahead)and affix them to thetheaters front. Voil, your

    mini cinema!

    5) Continue folding thiswing over until thenarrow tab is flat againstthe cinema back and thetop holes align. Glue!Repeat on the other side.

    6) Make steps: Foldthe sections with holesin them up, and the lowersections down. Fold up thebottom tabs; glue themto the lower sections.

    7) Fold up the bottomflap to make a floor andglue it in place. All holesshould now align. Twistin two #2 pencils!

    2) Fold the top ringstabs down. Insert inthe big rings hole.

    1) Cut and punch outthe cipher parts.

    3) Flip over. Glue thetabs to the small circle.

    The top ring shouldstill spin freely.

    4) Fold the dial inhalf on the dashedline; glue. Fold thesides to make a base.

    5) Glue the dial to thetop ring.

    TO ENCODE:

    1) Make up a message!

    2) Spin the dial and pickany symbol. Write thatsymbol down, and keep itvisible in the window.

    3) Find the first letter

    of your made-up messageon the outer wheel.

    4) Look at the innerwheel to see what letterlines up with the firstletter. Jot it down nextto the symbol!

    5) Continue encoding,keeping the same symbolin the window.

    6) Give your note (and

    the dial!) to a friend.

    TO DECODE:

    ) Find the symbolt the start of the

    message. Spin the dialntil that symbolppears in the window.

    2) Keep the symbolisible! Locate the

    messages first lettern the inner wheel.

    ) Find the letter thatnes up on the outer

    wheel; write it down.

    4) Keep going until yourmessage is revealed!

    1) Punch out thetwirler and cap.

    4) Give these a goodflick of the wrist whenyou let them go!

    3) Insert thewings into theslits on the cap.

    2) Fold down thewings that have tinycuts at their ends.

    Psst! These whirligigs are actually an experiment.Play with dropping them from different heightsor throwing them upside downor even on their

    sides to make them cartwheel! Get inventiveand discover their best airborne antics.
