Transion Meeng
Dear Middle School Parents,
Thank you to those parents who aended our last Middle School parent coee for this
school year on Tuesday morning. We had a preview performance of our students in-
volved in the musical followed by sharing of upcoming events and updates on changes
for next school year. We followed up on the past discussions we have had on digital
cizenship and then talked about transions…
This me of year becomes a me of discussing and supporng transions. The nature
of our Internaonal School community is that families move. It then becomes im-
portant to support transions of both students who are leaving, and also students who
remain and who may be facing changes in their friendship circles. As always, please let
us know if you need any support as we undergo this period of transion.
Please check the calendar closely for a whole host of excellent events that are coming
up - from our MS Art Exhibit to our end of year Music Concert. There is a Dance Recital,
and our Musical Producon of Wind and the Willows. End of year grade 8 events begin
with our Advocang for Change summit on May 28 culminang with the Moving On
ceremony on June 3.
Yours in Educaon,
Simon Gillespie, Middle School Principal

Dear Parents,
I do want to remind you of the importance of compleng the registraon process for your children before the deadline date of May
22nd. PowerSchool closes on that date, and our assumpon will be that a student who has not registered by then is leaving at the end
of the school year. We have many applicants at every Grade level on our Waing List, and on May 25th we shall begin the process of
oering all available slots. As I am sure you understand, for those people relocang to the Philippines, their plans are on hold unless
and unl they have guaranteed places in school for their children.
If you know already that you are deparng in June, please inform Admissions of this as soon as possible. By doing so, you are making
life much easier for incoming families. The deadline for informing us of your planned departure is May 22nd. Please note that past
pracce is that those who let us know they are leaving aer this date will forfeit $1000 of their Facilies Upgrade Deposit.
The school year is galloping toward the nishing line, and we are looking forward to examinaons, performances and graduaons. I
hope these next seven weeks bring your children all that they hope for.
Best wishes,
David Toze

Tetanus (Lockjaw) Vaccinaon
Tetanus (Lockjaw) is caused by the Clostridium Bacte-
rium. Their spores are resistant permanent forms which are
found worldwide in garden soil or dust.
The disease causes painful ghtening of the muscles,
usually all over the body. It can lead to "locking" of the jaw
so the vicm cannot open his mouth or swallow. Tetanus
leads to death in 50% or more of all cases.
As a teen or adult, do I need this vaccine?
Everyone needs protecon from tetanus. If you have not
had a booster shot in 10 years or more, you should receive
a tetanus shot. However, you should get the Tdap vaccine
(the tetanus booster that also protects against pertussis) as
soon as possible if you have not yet received it. You can get
Tdap no maer when you last got a Td booster shot.
It is good pracce and clinic roune to give a booster
shot without delay aer the slightest scratch acquired out-door, if the person is not protected. This can be quite dis-
rupve if travelling. Smaller hospitals outside the NCR oen
do not carry the vaccine.
College freshmen are generally required to have an updat-
ed immunizaon record.
While all our young students are protected - since the
vaccinaon is a school requirement - students aged 16
years and older, teachers and parents may need a booster
to be protected for another ten years.
What are the risks from Td vaccine?
With any medicine, including vaccines, there is a chance
of side eects. These are usually mild and go away on theirown. Serious reacons are also possible but are rare.
