A note from Judi . . .
Dear friends,
I just got back from Bernina
University where I had the
opportunity to take classes on new
techniques and Bernette
machines. There is always
something new to learn.
So, read the newsletter with your
calendar nearby. You won't want to
miss a thing. A heads-up -- our
classes seem to be filling quickly so
don't delay.
Due to customer requests we are
going to try adding some extra
summer hours to our schedule. If it
is well supported, we will consider
extending it. Watch Judi’s Notes for
details.
See you soon.

Spend a day with pattern and fabric designer, Susan Rooney Saturday, August 24, 10am - 1pm
Susan has been designing fabric and quilting patterns since 2008. Previously her major focus was on licensing her designs to manufacturers on a wide variety of products. Her degree in
graphic design and experience of preparing art for production provided a great training ground for designing fabric, embroidery designs and publishing patterns. She is passionate about texture,
dimension, bright colors and creating outside the box!
Four new fabric collections have been produced for P&B Textiles. This is very exciting and Susan has lots to share about that and
her pattern design process. She will have lots of visuals on display and you will have the opportunity to purchase patterns
and products at the end of the presentation.
Susan introduced her new fabric lines
at the Rochester Quilt Show.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 10am - 1pm
Registration fee is $10. When you attend, you will receive a $5 coupon to spend that day and a chance to win our grand prize
50 FAT QUARTERS from P&B Fabrics!

BOOKBINDING with Rob LoMascolo Simple stab binding: In this class you will learn how to create a simple Japanese style stab binding with a hard cover. At the end of the class you will have a beautiful blank book to take home and use! This binding is an elegant and quick way to bind together loose pieces of paper and is constructed in a totally different manner than the journals made in our pervious binding class. I hope to see you there! Kit required: $8.00 payable to instructor in class. Monday, July 8 10 - 1pm $30.00
When we first offered Rob’s bookbinding class this spring it filled up so quickly, we added a second class...then a third...then a fourth class! Rob returns in July to offer a new technique in bookbinding — Japanese style stab binding.
DRAGONFLY SAMPLER with Barbara Ackley Are you interested in learning new techniques? Here is a sampler that will do just that! We will make this beautiful dragonfly wall hanging, while learning design basics, how to mark your quilt, free motion quilting, beading and trapunto. We will also add binding or learn how to add facing to your finished quilt. Some free motion skill is needed. Patterns included in class fee. Saturdays: September 14 and 28, 10 - 4pm $60.00
Trapunto is a technique used to add a ”puffy” look to your quilt. Also called a “stuffing technique”, it adds texture and
another dimension to flat areas.

Join the Club! The Gypsy Wives’ Club that is. Jen Kingwell is very “hot” right now and we have selected her “Gypsy Wife” pattern for our workshop. Meetings will be on the first Saturday of each month beginning on Saturday, September 7th from 10 - 1pm. The first meeting agenda is to select color(s), fabrics and to determine a work schedule to complete the quilt top. Take a look at your stash and think of a dominant color or combination of colors that you would enjoy using in your quilt. The largest fabric piece for any primary block is 5 1/8” (only one piece this large). Charm packs would probably work well for the most part. But remember you will need long narrow strips to assemble your quilt top. If you would prefer to make another Jen Kingwell pattern, feel free to do so and join us. Susan Poet will be chairing the meetings and sharing her piecing experiences as we progress. Saturdays: Sept 7, Oct 5, Nov 2, Dec 7 10am - 1pm $10.00 per session

Welcome New Staff Members!
Linda Liddiard comes to us with a “lifetime of sewing, crafting and quilting experience” and we are delighted to have her join the staff. Linda will always have a warm smile waiting for you because she says she loves people! Before her retirement she shared her friendly smile with patients during her many years of nursing experience at Auburn Hospital. Linda will be with us through fall, when she will head back to her “winter job” at Bandel Quilts in Loris, South Carolina.
Susan Poet is fairly new to Central New York. After retiring as a German teacher in the Southern Tier, she relocated to Skaneateles. Susan made her first quilt, a double-sized sampler, pieced by hand, almost 40 years ago. There were some smaller pieced items in the following years, but not another quilt until more recently. Today, Susan is absorbing all she can about quilting techniques and machine embroidery and thoroughly enjoys feeding her fabric addiction. She looks at quilting as an art form, not just sewing. Susan is very happy to be a member of the Patchwork Plus crew!
STASIA DRESS or TOP with Cassie Davis-Shannon Dive in to sewing with knits by joining us to make the Stasia Dress or Top by Sew Liberated. This pattern is cute, comfortable, and flattering, and with three sleeve options and top, short skirt or maxi length, it is versatile and perfect for any season. We will start with the basics of choosing a size and then tracing patterns and cutting knits before we get down to sewing our dresses. While you will need your sewing machine and can construct the entire dress with that, there will also be sergers available to try out! Saturday, August 17 10 - 4pm $35.00

QUILTS FOR VETERANS A Huge “Thank You!” to Pat Holt, Debra Maloney, Kathy Major, Melonie Unger and Betty Bargabos, all of whom have donated quilts for veterans so far this year. Our quilts support the Syracuse VA’s In-Home Respite Caregiver Support Program. A quilt accompanies a volunteer on their first visit to a veteran’s home as a way of saying, “Thank you for your service”. Drop off your red, white & blue throw-size quilts at the shop and we will deliver them to the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
OPEN SEW DAYS
We try to keep the classroom free on the second and fourth Fridays each
month for Open Sew Days.
Check the shop online calendar before starting out and if the classroom is free
call a friend and head over to the shop.
Tables can be raised if you are going
to do a lot of cutting or pushed together to lay out your finished blocks or baste
your quilt.
It’s also a good time to work on your charity projects.
STAR SHADOWS with Jackie O’Brien Jackie returns with another Studio 180 Designs (Tucker Trimmer) workshop. Create the illusion of stars floating over the surface of a quilt and casting shadows below using your WING CLIPPER 1 tool. The Wing Clipper 1 is a must have tool if you are making Flying Geese units for your quilts. It makes four finished units from five squares, which can then be trimmed to a perfect size. Saturday, October 19 10 - 2pm $47.00
