PAXTON HOUSE
This year we highlight two great French composers who are almostcomplete opposites: the Intensely passionate Ernest Chausson, whod(ed in 1899, and the more classically poised Frartcis Poulenc. born that
same year. As always. however, there is a vast array of masterworksranging from classics by Mozart, Beethoven. Schubert and Brahms, through to representative works by Debussy, Faure and Ravel. We alsobring some illore unusual fare from across the Atlantlc. The programmes.more than ever before, have been designed to present a range of superbmusic in as contrasting and arresting a way as possible, often mixing in
one concert works for different combinations.
The world-faniou§ clarlnettist. Gervase de Peyer, makes a return visit,
and there are exciting debut appearances by soprano Kiera Lyness,Alexander Janiczek. the newly-appointed leader of the Scottish Chamber
Orchestra. pianist Graeme MCNaught, and violists Juliet Jopllng and
Gillianne Haddow.
A lively additic)n to our programme this year are two Informal concerts
with younger listeners in mind, one of whlch will be given by talented
young people from the area. There wlll also be a special study morning, with illustrated talks designed to give the background to our featuredcomposers and the world in wriich they lived.
