Guangdong, a province in Southern China, is the home of the Pearl River Delta
Pearl River Delta
The Pearl River runs through Guangzhou, and then empties into the South China Sea in a bay between Hong Kong and Macau. The three cities form a sort of triangle.
Hong Kong was run by the British until 1997, and Macau was Portuguese until 1999. Today they are ‘Special Administrative Regions’ of China
adjacent to Guangdong
As SAR’s, they enjoy more autonomy.
Megacity?
There is talk of uniting all of these cities together into a giant megalopolis of 40-50 million!

Guangzhou• Guangzhou is the third largest Chinese city and
the largest city in South Central China. As of the 2010 census, the city's administrative area had a population of 12.78 million (about 4x what it was in 1980). It is 75 miles from Hong Kong, and there are thousands of factories between them.
