Surrounding Counties
►Surveyed eight surrounding counties Seven do not have a Plan B Some tried and experienced dramatic drop in
attendance One has a Plan B (Greene)
►Total enrollment 3,128 (vs 13,623)►Area 157 sq miles (vs 724)►Have used Sheriff vehicles to transport Sw/IEP►15% of students impacted►ACPS open 62%, GC open 46%
Challenges
►Consolidation increases risk at stops Line of sight reduced Slippery roads Crowded stops
► Impact on Sw/IEP with existing tport vehicles►Added cost for Routing
Must maintain two sets of routes (1 FTE-worth of added work)
Routes would have different arrival times
Challenges
►Driver and staff attendance reduced►PM Supervision► Implementation logistics – need to
implement county-wide
Advantages
► Less disruptive to parents’ work schedule►Possibly more class time►Possibly more meals served
Current Activities
►Automatic chains►VDOT coordination► Fuel additive
