Plane Mirrors and Reflection
The Law of Reflection
Mirrors reflect the light in predictable ways. ________________________________________________. This is known as the Law of Reflection:
It states that the angle of reflection is always _______________ to the angle of incidence.

Light is reflected off of smooth, shiny surfaces. It is also reflected off of rough surfaces.
_____________ reflection:This type of reflection occurs when light rays
strike a ____________________________.
The second type of reflection occurs off of _____________, irregular surfaces. This is called __________________________.
This type of reflection results in a very ______________________________.

Describing the ImageTo describe an image you need to discuss 4 properties:
1. ____________________________________________ Is it smaller, the same or larger?
2. Attitude of the image. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
3. __________________________________________________________.
4. Type of image. _______________________________________________

This gives us the acronym SALT (Size, Attitude, Location and Type)
Using Light Rays to locate an image.A real image is produced when light arrives at the image location.
A virtual image is an image where light does not actually arrive at or come from the image location. Anything that is seen as an image off a reflective surface is a virtual image. ______________________________________ _______________________________________________________. The light only appears to come from the image.

Using lines to predict image location.Light rays and the Laws of reflection can be used to show how an image is produced by a mirror and where it will be formed.
Keep in mind the following things when drawing diagrams1. The distance from the object to the mirror is the same as the distance from the image to the mirror.
2. The object location and the image location will be on the same perpendicular line.
Draw the image that would be produced.
