Overview
The central theme of GILE 2017 is ‘THINKLIGHT: The convergent
future’. Shifts in the lighting industry have led the convergence of
distinct technologies, industries and devices. As show organiser, we
aim to provide fairgoers a professional industry platform to cultivate
new business opportunities from both within and outside the traditional
industry realms. In 2017, both the number of exhibitors and the product
scope have expanded in accordance to the evolving lighting industry.
Apart from the exhibition, our concurrent programme also encourages
participants to share and exchange market insight as well as technical
know-how. Through these initiatives, I hope we can help set the stage
for discovering new industry breakthroughs.

We develop our products and buy most
of the components from China. Visit to
big fair like GILE gives us ideas of what
to produce next. This is my second time
to GILE and I mainly look for production
equipment, raw materials and
components. I have already concluded a
half million dollar deal of ceiling panel
light with a Chinese supplier. This year I
notice that smart lighting is becoming
more important. Three years ago it was
not there at all. The show is absolutely
relevant to my business and I will come
back again next year. I believe it is the
largest lighting fair.

We have 69 people coming from India in our
delegation, 26 – 27 of them come for the first
time. They are looking for raw material, SKD
material (semi knock down), etc. As the
quality and technology in China is better than
in India, we will buy the material in China and
assemble it in India. We could not find any
down light, spot light in India, and we are in
need of that. I have been to this show for over
10 years, for those that are doing LED
business, they must come to this exhibition.
You can find all the new technologies and
products in GILE. I think China is leading the
lighting industry, in terms of price and
technology.

Alanod has been in the GZ lighting fair from the
early beginning. For us, it’s a great chance to
meet our international customers. Alanod has
been very international and sell to bulk market
worldwide, and this show is very international;
therefore, it’s a good chance for us to meet our
friends and customers from all over the world. I
think we’ve achieved our objective so far because
the main objective for us to be here is to come
together and meet our partners to have good
conversation. We talk about some of the views
and good options for the future as well as
strategies. Therefore, for us, it has been going
really well.

Our company have been attending GILE for
many editions and every year we return to
promote our company and products. What’s more,
we would like to expand our client base to
regions within the country we have yet
established connections with. Apart from that, this
is a very effective platform we networking with
overseas buyers. The products we have on

Lighting is
not for
illumination
ONLY
Light is a piece of artwork
Light creates opportunities
Light connects people Our main goal is to find new authorized dealers for our products and we are very satisfied with the
results. We have found many new potential customers who are importers and dealers. The quality
of visitors is high. Half of them are from domestic and half from overseas, including Europe and
Asia, such as India, Vietnam, Taiwan and Thailand. Generally the current lighting industry is not
easy. Competition is fierce. However, I believe that good quality can pay you back. Our company
will keep improving and developing our LED department in order to meet the market needs.

The
Convergent
Future
13
Two tracks of program featured by the lighting show have been specifically designed to provide
the latest in tech, updates in market as well as information sharing by industry peers which run
concurrently over 3 days featuring impressive A-list industry stakeholder from both multinational
and top China companies, collection of thoughts draw big crowds:
The convergence of IoTs and LED technology has changed the lighting
industry dramatically. The concept of smart lighting sounds great, but how
does it work?
“The idea of this convergence is a definite thing. It is only a matter of time that this will become a
reality.” said guest speaker, Mr Freddy Lim, Design Director, Lightcraft Ambience Architecture
Sdn Bhd.
Mr Tjaco Middel, Head of R&D (Asia Pacific), Tridonic China further elaborated, “The LED boom
is over, and where will the lighting industry move forward? In my perspective, I think the future
belongs to IoT and connectivity. Lighting fixtures that can connect to the internet directly willhave great demand. To make your devices connected is the key to success.”
How should China lighting industry respond to the changes?Mr Brad Koerner, Creative Director, Philips Lighting suggested, “China’s lighting industry needs
to apply some of the great creativity that’s there within the country to create new form factors
and ways to use architectural lighting. Some of the trends I see for the future of lighting industry
is “light dematerializing” from discrete decorative objects. Lights will be projected on surfaces to
surround us, like light animation and others. This development will ultimately benefits our daily
lives, also known as healthy lighting.”
What is the convergent future of lighting industry?Although smart lighting development is an inevitable trend in the industry, Mr Martin Klaasen,
Director, Klaasen Lighting Design reminded us, “lighting designers always design for people
and not for lux matters. Depending on the available technologies, we always have the best
interest of people using the illuminated space in mind. So, in a way, a lighting design is and has
always been human centric.”
