The Ecumenical Institute of Theology of St. Mary’s Seminary & University is pleased to announce that it will hold its first Festival of Preaching on April 17-18, 2015. Think On These ThingsBy Reverend Juanita G. Wingo
Used to the StruggleWe glory in tribulations also.
Romans 5:3
When you are used to the struggle, it does not faze you.
Those for whom the struggle comes infrequently get frustrated, irritated and confused when confronted by difficult situations. They break when the winds of affliction, tribulation, and trial blow fierce.
The struggle brings strength. The struggle brings endurance.
When you are used to the day in and day out grind of existence, you build up endurance muscles. You get used to strenuous circumstances, demanding environments, and tough conditions. You learn to take nothing for granted, to work hard, and not to expect automatic victories.
Those who do not struggle lack the integrity of the mountainous climb and the walk through rough places. They give up easily. They cave under pressure. They give in without a fight.
Let the struggle work. Rejoice in your hardships. Anything less has no power to intimidate, scare, or destroy you.
Let the struggle build your character, assist your decision making, help you make choices, and release your problem solving capabilities.
Those who are used to the struggle can be resourceful beyond the means of those on a smooth path. They can figure out solutions on the spot and think on their feet. They are not easily discouraged. They maintain their hope.
The struggle can stretch you. Let it stretch you to greater capacity. The more the struggle works those endurance muscles, the more you can take. The more you can take, the stronger you become. The stronger you become, the calmer you can be in the struggle.
Get used to the struggle. Don’t attempt to avoid it, escape it, or whine or complain about it. Let the struggle work and make you unbreakable.

Rev. Dr. Melvin Jackson-The JourneyBy Dr. Barbara J. WattiesDr. Melvin Jackson is one of six children born to the late McKinley and Louise Jackson. He is a native Baltimorean and a graduate of Baltimore City Public School System.
“Pastor Melvin,” as he is affectionately called, loves the Lord and he values education. He holds several degrees including an Associate of Arts Degree from the Community College of Baltimore, a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree from Morgan State University and a Master of Divinity Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. In June 2014, he received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio.
Dr. Jackson’s journey into ministry began in May 1999 after kissing his wife, Patricia Jackson, goodbye in morning as she left for work and by the end of the day she was in a coma. A few days later she passed. Dr. Jackson stated, “My daughter and I were left to deal with this devastating tragedy. This was truly a test of our faith. My daughter had loss her mother, and I had loss my wife of 27 years. I reminded my daughter how her mother wanted her to finish college. When she returned to college I was left to struggle with the question why? I was constantly asking God why? Why would you do this to us? My grief became a part of my personal journey.”
Then God planted a scripture in my heart, it was Mathews 6:33, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Following God’s Message, I attended a TD Jakes Men’s Conference in Charlotte, NC. It was such a spiritual gloriously high time in the Lord with 20,000 men in attendance. Though strangers when we arrived, the presence of the Holy Spirit created a bond of fellowship among the men. It was at the conference that Donald Lawrence sang his song, “It’s Your Season.” Then God spoke to me “it is time to go forth.” It was then I accepted my call into ministry. There is a song you will often hear me line the words to before I preach, it is “Precious Jesus How I love You.” That song was sung by my daughter at her mother’s bedside as she passed.
The birthing of the new Christ Church & Ministries, which was clearly humbling to its founding Pastor, Rev. Dr. Melvin Jackson. Pastor Jackson began the service by pouring his heart out with the following message: “I love every one of you and you can’t do anything about it.” The service continued with the musical selection “Oh How I Love Jesus,” rendered by Dr. Harrison Johnson.
To pastor Jackson this writer says “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7

Ann W. Kinard “To God Be The Glory”
THE CHURCH TEAFAITH IN THE STORM
She is not afraid of the snow for her household:for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Proverbs 31:21
A recent Saturday snowstorm created hazardous, harsh and treacherous road conditions. The news reports had warned that people should stay off the roads but past reports had proven false. I mistakenly believed I could accomplish a few errands before the impending snow. My attire was unsuitable for adverse weather, and I quickly learned my windshield wipers and tires were not in the best shape. Apparently, I was not alone in my inaccurate assumption of the coming snowstorm. Panic-stricken drivers flooded the streets, and some areas were simply impassable. Even the back areas only driven frequently by local and familiar neighbors were dangerous. A trip that would normally take 10 minutes took over an hour as the traffic gridlocked, and impatient motorists whipped ahead only to become stuck behind a vehicle that skidded off the road or stalled. This quickly reminded me that we must always be prepared in life for whatever nature has in store. We cannot control the weather but we can control our attitudes and preparedness in adverse conditions. Our character flaws and attributes are revealed in the storm. And humanity displayed its best and worst behavior that day. During that time it became
imperative to be of service to one another. It’s easy to help a friend in need but to help a complete stranger is Christ-like. So whether you helped a stranded motorist, shoveled snow for the elderly or checked on a neighbor, no matter how trivial, God saw your actions. Often the best gestures are the random acts of kindness performed from the heart. May you be blessed and rewarded by his favor. Psalms 148:8 Fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Until next time be sure to listen livestream to WOLB Friday’s from 12:00 to 1:00 for the Power Magazine Hour with me and Rev. William Wingo. Join our guests as we have lively discussions on issues that affect the Christian and faith based community. To God be the Glory!
