General Scope
This 3-day course focuses on the
fundamentals of air dispersion
modeling, air dispersion modeling
with AERMOD and CALPUFF, and
accidental release modeling with
BREEZE Incident Analyst. It provides
hands-on instruction with all of these
programs to those who wish to use
the models, sharpen their existing
modeling skills, or better understand
results prepared by others. It is a
combination of the AERMOD
Modeling Computer Lab and
Accidental Release Modeling
Workshop with BREEZE Incident
Analyst courses, with additional
focus on developing a strong
understanding of model
fundamentals. All attendees who
register for this course will
receive a complimentary
30-day trial of BREEZE
AERMOD, CALPUFF,
Incident Analyst, and the
post-processing program
(3D Analyst). Some of the
specific topics covered are
outlined below.
Chempute Software will
provide training venue,
computers, training
dongles, printed training
notes, teas, lunches, course
certificate.
Practical Air Dispersion & Accidental Release Modeling Workshop
10 – 12 May 2017 Presented by:
Mr. Brian Holland
Mr. Holland serves in several technical roles in Trinity’s BREEZE Software and Data Services group, ranging from meteorological data
processing to consulting on hazardous release modeling projects to software testing and requirements
development.
Mr. Holland is one of the primary environmental and safety modelers in the BREEZE group, with experience in areas ranging from air dispersion
to explosion modeling. He is experienced with the AERMOD,
DEGADIS, INPUFF, and CALPUFF models, among others. His modeling
work includes clients in the oil and gas, mining, petrochemical, and other
chemical industries. He teaches Trinity’s AERMOD Modeling
Computer Laboratory and Practical Air Dispersion Modeling Workshop,
as well as accidental release and explosion modeling courses. He also serves as one of the technical support personnel for the full line of BREEZE software products. As the “Product Champion” for BREEZE AERMET
and Incident Analyst, he is responsible for ensuring that those
products correctly fulfill their scientific requirements and provide
an excellent user interface.

Course contents
Day 1: Fundamentals of Air Dispersion Modeling: This portion of the course will include interactive lecture sessions with topics including Gaussian model behavior, source characterization, building and terrain data, and results interpretation. By the completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss the fundamentals of air dispersion modeling.
Day 2: Hands-on with BREEZE AERMOD and BREEZE CALPUFF: This portion of the course includes hands-on modeling exercises and interactive lecture sessions with BREEZE AERMOD and BREEZE CALPUFF. By the completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
o Set up, run, and analyze various scenarios designed to introduce the model options that can have a significant impact on model outputs
o Understand model sensitivity, interpreting results, and how to graphically present results (e.g., contour analyses) for easy interpretation
o Receive digital project files, course manual, and book Practical Guide to Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling for future reference
Day 3: Accidental Release Modeling with BREEZE Incident Analyst: On the last day participants will be provided with an in-depth understanding of common source term calculation methods and impact analysis models in order to evaluate potential hazards (including toxics, fires, and explosions) due to accidental release of chemicals under various situations. The technical methods and models to be discussed and used during the course are recognized globally and used routinely to fulfill a variety of regulatory requirements (e.g., risk management planning, emergency response and management, and process safety management). This portion of the course will also include hands-on modeling exercises using BREEZE Incident Analyst. Upon completion of the course, attendees will:
o Understand and know how to utilize basic technical approaches for accidental release modeling analyses
o Learn about common source term calculation methods o Grasp the use of BREEZE Incident Analyst to conduct accidental release modeling
analyses o Gain practice using BREEZE Incident Analyst’s post-processing, 3D Analyst, to analyze
modeling results
