Planet-Sustainable Solutions for Texas Landowners
W ater is our most precious resource.
In Texas, underground aquifers
provide much of our water needs. But a
rapidly increasing population and frequent
periods of drought put a strain on such
limited resources. The good news is that
managing water is actually pretty easy, as
well as a common sense thing to do.
Managing the water available to you on your
property is a smart decision. The source is
free and readily accessible. Using a rainwater
catchment system makes you less dependent
on a well that may go dry. Water quality with
rainwater is much better than well water,
and does not have any funny mineral tastes.
Water Management–A Smart Decision
Rainwater leaves no residue and does
not require a water softener.
When you choose to manage your water,
you have a lot more flexibility with how to
use it. Providing a supplemental source for
wildlife during times of drought keeps the
wildlife on your property happy and healthy.
Running an irrigation system keeps your
garden and other plants growing longer.
Preservation Texas works with landowners
to manage their water resources with the
three C’s—Capture, Contain and Consumption.
It’s your water—make a smart decision and
manage it wisely!

capture
An inch of rain, landing on a thousand
square foot roof, provides nearly 600 gallons
of water. If you have a house, shed or old
barn—even in the Hill Country—you can
easily capture 20,000-30,000 gallons of
water annually with a 30-inch annual
rainfall. It’s there for the taking!

Diverting rainwater to a catchment system
is the most important step in the process.
A pond is fairly simple, but is subject to
evaporation. Today there are a wide variety
of rain barrels and water tanks available
to homeowners. Some are more suited to
drinking water, while others are for irrigation
or wildlife use. Aesthetics may also be a factor.
Galvanized steel, fiberglass and wooden tanks
are fairly popular.

How are you going to use all that water?
Preservation Texas can help with wildlife
waterers for birds, small mammals and
white-tail deer. If you have plants or a
garden in the yard, a drip irrigation
system using rainwater will produce
healthier and more productive plants.
For human uses, nothing beats rainwater
for drinking, cooking, cleaning and bathing.
A complete system filters and disinfects
the rainwater. There are none of the
unpleasant tastes or residue typically
associated with well-water.
Preservation Texas works with our clients
to determine the best use for your captured
rainwater and develop the right solution. We
manage the entire implementation to your
highest satisfaction.
