CREATING A DOCUMENT BY LAUNCHING AN APPLICATION PROGRAM
Click the Start button.
Point to All Programs on the Start menu.
Point to Accessories on the All Programs submenu.
Point to Notepad on the Accessories submenu.
Click Notepad

The insertion point is a flashing vertical line that Indicates the

SAVING A DOCUMENT ON THE DESKTOP
File name – assigned to all documents as a way to identify them.
Click File on the menu bar and then point to Save As

COPYING A FOLDER ONTO A FLOPPY DISK

DELETING SHORTCUTS, FILES, AND FOLDERS
Delete a shortcut – you delete only the shortcut and its references to the file or folder
Delete an icon – you delete the actual file. Recycle Bin – is an area on the hard disk that
contains all the items you have deleted not only from the desktop but from the hard desk as well.
Right-drag the Shortcut to Daily Reminders icon onto the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop. Point to Move Here on the shortcut menu.

User account – is a collection of all the information Windows XP needs to know about a computer user.
Permission – certain privileges based upon the account type assigned to the user by the computer administrator.

Domain – a group of computers that are part of a network and share common rules, procedures, and centralized user account
Workgroup – is a simple grouping of computers intended to help users find such things as printers and shared folders within that group.
.NET passport – is a Microsoft service that allows you to create and remember only one user name and password and then use the passport to access computers and Internet sites that support .NET Passport.

A security measure used to restrict access to user accounts, computer networks, and computer resources
Password hint – can be created to help you remember your password if you forget it because you have multiple passwords or you do not use an account frequently
