Network Elements
Network Elements: The objects of the Communication
Service Provider Network within NIMS-PrOptima.
These objects are categorized into types of Network
Elements (NEs).
Examples: RNC, NodeB, etc. Members:A specific realization of any object , e.g.
object instance, for each NE type of the
Communication Service Provider Network.
Examples: RNC-1, RNC-2, RNC130, etc.
NEs and the types of NEs are identified by icons andaccessible from the Network Elements tab in the
palette.

The Time Palette
Time limits are determined by the current global
context setting.
Selection Time contain members that correspond to
a defined, non-repeated, period of time.
Example: Day, 14 Jan 07, etc. Dispatching Time members have no absolute
reference, and the members corresponds to a
repeatable, periodic time slot.
Example: Day of Week, Quarter Hour of Week
Monday, etc. Selection and Dispatching Time and their members
are identified by icons and accessible from the Time
tab in the palette.

Topology Management
All NEs that are reporting performance data are identified through CM
or PM files
The complete list of managed object instances is imported once a day
CM topology based on PM files
Dynamic Importation Keys
Mapping PM data to NE instances is critical
The identification of objects in the PM files
and the CM files are not always identical
Re-Parenting Management
Radio Access VTIs are designed to managere-parenting
Reporting integrity is maintained
Network element duplications are avoided

Understanding Data Importation
Data is imported at the time
granularity specified within the VTI
for each counter.
In this example the counter data is
imported at Quarter-Hour
granularity.
When an hour of Quarter-Hour
data has been imported it is
aggregated and stored at the hour
level as well.
When a days worth of Hourly data
has been imported it is aggregatedand stored at the Day level as well
All counter data is stored on the
NIMS-PrOptimaTM server in a
multi-dimensional data storage
architecture also called flat files

Aggregations
Aggregations combine the data from one granularity to another
An RNC-level report is computed using FDDCell-level data
An Hourly counter is computed at the Day level
There are several methods of combining the data (sum, average, max, min, etc.) Network Object Model

Release Tab
The Applicable Releases tab allowsyou to apply NE releases to your
formula. As updates to equipment
occur, it is normal that NEs of various
releases co-exist on the network.
To facilitate the management of suchcases, NIMS-PrOptima associates
an NE_RELEASE parameter to NEs,
which makes it possible to limit
formulas to certain releases, and
offers the capability of creating
multi-release formula

automatically calculated at importation time
and stored in the database.
