Introduction Faculty of Psychology and Education produces trained and knowledgeable professionals in education and human development to address behavioral and social problems. To meet the challenging needs of the 21st century, the faculty draws on, integrates, and synergizes fundamental disciplines such as pedagogy, psychology, social work and counseling to produce skilled and competent graduates. Employing a careful mixed of contemporary courses and programs, the faculty aspires to produce highly skilled and competent graduates who are well- balanced in terms of their intellectual, emotional, and spiritual quotients in order to contribute positively to the human capital development and advancement of the country. This goal is in line with UMS’s quest to become a global institution of excellence in education, training and research. To achieve this goal, all entrusted parties must fulfill their duties and responsibilities with sincerity, trust and dedication based upon an excellent work culture.

Programmes Offered
This programme introduces students to the field of industrial and organizational psychology and problems related to organizational behaviour. The focus of study will be on job satisfaction and stress, group dynamics, interpersonal communication, employee problems, leadership and power influence, prejudice and organizational discrimination as well as design and organization development.
To broaden their exposure students will have job-training placement to complement the academic study. The programme produces graduates who are resilient and skilled in the field of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Graduates of this programme will serve the public and private sector as personnel or welfare officers in industry, research assistants or tutor in higher educational institutions, facilitators and helpers in voluntary organizations.

Graduates of this programme will serve the public and private sectors as community development officers, rehabilitation officers, consultants, research assistants or tutors in educational institutions, facilitators and helpers in related organizations.
The programme is designed to prepare students for generic social work practice. In keeping with the generic focus, students are provided with a common body of social work knowledge and skills that is transferable among human service settings, population group and areas. Students have the opportunity to practice actual social work in an agency setting through practical training. The aim is to expose them to their practice interests and develop skills in integrating and applying knowledge and theory acquired in academic courses to actual social work situations. The Social Work Programme will empower students with strong social work ethics and values, relevant theoretical foundation, and strong practice skills to promote the optimal social functioning of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Students will have preventive and social work knowledge and expertise necessary for the building and maintenance of the a progressively equitable social environment favourable to all people regardless of race, gender, age, ethnic or national origin disability, political orientation or sexual orientation. Graduates of this

programme can practice social work in a wide variety of settings such as child welfare agencies, Counselling agencies, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, psychiatric hospital and clinics, home health agencies, correctional institutions, employee assistance programs, and various levels of government involving political and organizational processes of policy development and change.
The aim of this programme is to train English language teachers who are from primary and secondary school. The course aims to develop professionally based knowledge in the theory and practice of education, together with the ability to assist pupils to reach their full intellectual and social potential by understanding their abilities and potentialities and the social contexts within which they live and learn. Entry requirements are STPM holders, Matriculation or equivalent. Applicants are also required to pass MUET and MEdSI Examinations to qualify.
CHILD AND FAMILYPSYCHOLOGY The Child and Family Psychology Programme is designed to educate and equip individual to be professionals in dealing with children, parents and families in public and private settings. The Faculty of Psychology and Education believes that children should be studied in the context of their family and community, thus the study of families have in the development of child’s emotional, social, cognitive, and personality is imperative. This programme represents the efforts of the university and the School to enhance collaboration with the community and to respond to the needs of society for professionals to work with children and their family within the community. Depending on their career goal students will have a choice to go through a practical training or opted for thesis writing. Practical training is important to complement the theoretical aspects of their study and thesis writing helps them to be researchers in the field of Child and family programme. Graduates of this programme will serve in the public and private sectors as supervisors in childcare centres, psychological consultation officers, lecturers in the institution of higher learning, research assistants or tutor in the institution of higher learning, managers or principal of childcare centre, and volunteers or facilitators.
EDUCATION WITH ECONOMY
The aim of this programme is to train Economy teachers who are from primary and secondary school. Entry requirements are STPM holders, Matriculation or equivalent. This programme will produce teachers that are ethical and qualified in the Bachelor of Education with Economy. Areas of specialization consist of the following:

The programme offered by the School aims at training individuals in the field of Sports Science. There are two areas of specialization consist of the following:

Entry requirement are STPM holders, Matriculation or equivalent.
This programme trains students to be knowledgeable and skilledin the field of counselling. Required courses are philosophy of guidance and counselling, ethics in the helping professions, theories in counselling and psychotherapy, counselling in organization, career development theories, abnormal psychology, group counselling and psychotherapy, pre-practicum class, family counselling or therapy and practicum / internship. The programme is generic in nature and does not confined to any particular theory and approach. Students will also learn case management skills, client assessment, report writing, counselling skills, procedures and strategies in handling client’s career, personal and social matters.
This program is a professional preparation for counsellor registration as required in Counsellor Act 1998 (Act 580). Graduates of this program are eligible for registration as registered counsellors and normally employed as counsellors, guidance teachers, human resource personnel, managers, and mental health personnel.
