THE LAST TANGO IN THULE
German artist Michael Kunze’s art is described by Galerie Isa as “a kind of anti-modern modernity that traces an
arc from the isolated masters of painting in the 20th century, such as Bacon, De Chirico and Balthus, through to infl uential directors such as Lars von Trier”. Through his paintings, he creates complex worlds with secrets that one has to meditate on for it to unravel.
Surrealism: Dream and Reality on Canvas
Immerse yourself in the world of Salvador Dali (1904-1989), the legendary Spanish artist celebrated for his surrealist works, at this workshop. Instead of
copying one of his works like at most painting parties, at this class you get to delve deep into the works of Dali and understand the inner psyche of the eccentric artist in order to create your own art work. The Insurrection ‘46 Project
This Saturday, attend a lecture by fi lm and
cultural theorist Ashish Rajadhyaksha. Last year, artist Vivan Sundaram unveiled an installation at CSMVS, where he converted a gigantic container to simulate a naval ship, to evoke the memories of the 1946 naval uprising. Type Walk and Design Workshop
This workshop has two parts to it. During the fi rst half, learn about the history of urban typography, and how it is affected by society and
culture, from typographer Tanya George. This will be followed by a session led by Neha Bahuguna, an NID graduate who conducts storytelling and poetry workshops through her initiative BOL. She will conduct a design workshop after the walk. Artisans’, Kala Ghoda. Jun 9, 9 am.

While Switzerland is one of the pioneering countries when it comes to effective waste treatment, recycling in India is still in its infancy. Through their works, artists try to highlight the relationship societies have with waste or garbage.

Print from Bengal: modernism in colonial India’ features graphic prints from the early-to-mid
20th century by artists from Bengal. From the Partition of Bengal in 1905 to the emergence of the Swadeshi movement, the artists from this period were politically engaged and socially conscious with their works, which can be witnessed at this show.
The exhibition comprises works by artists such as Ramkinkar Baij (1906-1980), Ramendra Nath Chakravorty (1902-1955), Rani Chanda (1912-1997), Mukul Dey (1895-1989) and Gaganendranath Tagore (1867-1938).
In 1995, works by 60 artists from around the world were chosen to be part of an exhibition celebrating
the 50th anniversary of the United Nations at Geneva. One such work was ‘Songs from the Blood of the Weary’ by artist Rekha Rodwittiya. This, along with 12 paintings from
the collection of Sakshi Gallery, makes up this interesting show.
